Good! I never really liked the idea of whiskeys being exclusively available at airports, hopefully we see more of these uncommon bottles becoming more common!

I just got a bottle. It’s on sale, 10 bucks off 😊❤.

It’s widely distributed in the US now. Not just an airport thing.

That's lucky! I'd hope that a lot of these airport exclusives get wider distribution!

The thing is, when you add peated scotch to any blend, it's always going to dominate. This would be better with unpeated single malt, imo.
@TheWhiskeyNerd9 ай бұрын
It would definitely be a bit more balanced. I think you're right, an unpeated expression with a strong "scotch" character might have worked better here.

When describing the japanese whiskys included in the blend you said yamazaki twice. I believe you meant hakushu when describing the more herbal smokier flavor.

You're right, it's Hakushu that has that herbal, smoky character.

They've got some fascinating whiskeys included... I like that they got some Ardmore in there. The rich malt sounds especially nice, though at the original price I feel like there are other blendeds I'd probably grab for more quickly. Thanks for this Matt!

What's your favourite Japanese or "Japanese" Whiskey?
@vernonchang7408 Жыл бұрын
So, I purchased this in Toronto at LCBO, which is a government wide owned store that sells booze. I paid $104.95 CDN. So, it's no longer airport exclusive I guess. You mentioned $71 EURO, so it works out about $95, which is quite similar. I honestly feel like that there are many good whiskies out there that may not be as expensive and taste better but I just have to try Suntory as it's also hard to buy here in Canada due to supply shortage and high demand for Suntory.
@TheWhiskeyNerd Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've not seen it on shelves in Ireland yet, but I have heard that it's moving to be more widely available. (or at least, as widely available as Japanese whiskey ever is!!)

Excellent review Matt! This sounds like a very interesting whisky. I'm intrigued! The sourcing from different countries makes this a whisky I would like to try. I have been reading quite a bit about Japanese whisky lately and most articles have been suggesting people check to see the source/sources and I have perceived the articles to be critical but overall I have enjoyed Japanese whisky even with multiple sources. I am encouraged that you are recommending this whisky! I agree the price is a bit high and especially with the ABV but I am very curious! Rocking review! So interesting this whisky can only be purchased in an airport! Cheers Matt!! 🙂
@TheWhiskeyNerd2 жыл бұрын
I've heard that it can also be purchased in stores... In Japan! So we'd need to hop on an airplane either way!! But hopefully if you do see it, you get as good a deal as we did! And yes, a lot of articles can be quite critical of sourcing from multiple places, but those same people will rave about some scotch whiskeys which are blends made of stuff from multiple distilleries! This is the same, just on a wider geographical scale!

@@TheWhiskeyNerd Well I sure would love to be in Tokyo right now! That is a fabulous city to be in and I also love Kyoto and the bars and bartenders are about as outstanding as I have ever experienced! First class cocktail making all the way! It would be awesome just to be able to get on a flight, pick up some amazing Japanese whisky and fly right home!! Lol! Well we can dream right?!! You are so right Matt that these same writers who criticize blended Japanese whisky rave about blended Scotch whisky and I think that makes some writers hypocritical. If there is genuine well thought out criticism of a blended Japanese whisky (or any kind of whisky for that matter!) then that is fine but I find Japanese blended whisky seems to get unfairly targeted sometimes. I always enjoy your videos so much Matt and I learn a lot! I am sending smiles and greetings to you and Rose and I hope that you are both starting to enjoy the holiday season. It's still a bit early but I know someone people kick the enjoyment off on December 1st!! I like to wait to get a Christmas tree because if it gets out up too early, as a live tree, it can dry out too quickly. A lovely tree with pretty lights, the scent of pine, a nice fire in the fireplace well built and some delicious whisky is a lovely way to spend an evening during the holiday season!! I like to treat myself and friends and family to some extra special scotch and other types of whisky during the holidays!! Cheers Matt!! 🙂

@@christinecamley cheers Christine! We're actually planning a trip back to Japan for early 2024 and we'll definitely be enjoying some whiskeys! In fact, there's another "Whiskey-tuber", Mac (channel name Kanpai Planet) who reviews great Japanese whiskeys and even made sake by hand! If you're interested, you should look at some of his videos. And as for Christmas, we haven't put up our tree yet, but we'll be doing that this weekend, and decorating the house too! (but I'd be lying if I said that Mariah Carey hasn't been played a few times already...)

I just bought a bottle in Toronto and was excited to see what people think. Great review, just happened to spotted your review. I never knew there are contrevsy of what is Made in Japan and Japanese distilleries imported blends to mix it in with theirJapanese whiskies and called it "Made in Japan", I never knew that, so this is very helpful INFO. I also like the unique bottle shapes. I was wondering if the 5 glass surfaces shape is tying it in with the 5 blends from 5 different countries.
@TheWhiskeyNerd Жыл бұрын
I think you're right that the five sides are to correspond with the five different countries where the whiskey comes from. And yeah, when people found out that some brands were taking whiskey from elsewhere, calling it Japanese, (and selling it at a high price), there was some anger! Luckily the main, respectable brands are putting a stop to that with the new rules.
