I notice these forks have a serial number. This reveals some information to the person who understand some basics. Fork travel, where it's made and of course serial. You may have to contact SR Suntour for advice on the part numbers like I did. One of my forks I bought New Old Stock didn't include a brake hose clamp, so I finally found a dealer than did sell them and ordered 2 of them. I may lose one in the future, or break it. but cheap. Really helpful.

Great vid. RJ. Here's a cheap hack that doesn't seem to get a lot of mention. Look up plumbers tape or silicone tape. Usually its 1-inch wide and come in rolls. I bought a 10 foot roll in black (in adhesives aisle) at home depot for $4.95. wrap around chainstay to prevent chain slap. It only sticks to itself and pretty thick. A little prettier than old tire tube and zip ties. Enough to do 3 bikes i think.

Actually, the information here is enough for the average person to take on. There were no bearing settings, or pre-load adjustments for anything. Just loosen parts, take note, clean, regrease and install. But don't over do it. The brake lever arms you could just unbolt and put to the side and they will reattach without further adjustment.

I can’t imagine that a marine grade bearing grease would damage the plastic parts. However, even without damaging the fork it still probably wouldn’t give the same performance as slickoleum or Judy butter. Just another option if you’re really on a tight budget.

@chrislukes9037

@@paullmight42 I think usually forks will have the spring in one fork leg (whether an air or coil spring) and the damping parts in the other (compression and/or rebound damping, if they have these at all). Since this fork has no damping there's nothing in the other leg, but the other coiled forks you've seen with two bolts might have had damping parts in the other leg that needed to be bolted in order to slide with the lowers.

Alternatively, your fork might have damping circuits in the other leg (these don't provide the *support* for the suspension that the spring does, but help to fine-tune the *rate* at which the forks compress and rebound). Often forks that have damping will have the spring in one leg and the dampers in the other.

@@bob-ny6kn I got pretty lucky and kind of rode the hood of the car, and almost got away with just gnarly road rash but just my left left leg got caught under the front right wheel while it was spinning...my ankle is pretty much metal and screws, with some pretty large surgery scars on either side...maybe about 40 or so staples...I just recently got out of a cast, which I had for about 3 months or so...then an air cast for another month...so this is my first month I can take the air cast off and start walking around. My foot is always going to be a little messed up, my ankle more so, but the road rash is long gone, and I am up and able to walk, even without a cane...though I need the cane if I have to walk anywhere too far. I am hopeful I will get most of the movement back in time...I always look at Steve-o, cause he had a similar ankle surgery and he's, well, still Steve-O lol I think I'll be able to ride before the winter hits...fingers crossed. It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Seeing how they're made, it's no wonder they're crappy shocks. They look stiff (maybe stiffer) as hell even after all that work.

6:00 RJ, you need to get yourself a bottle brush from a brew shop.

I have bottle brushes. They get greasy and hard to clean. They just don't work as well.

I'm fitting a set for a 50's ev bike for the disk and the old bearings will line up in balloon bike headsets. No jumping or hard riding though. LOL!

I hate suspension forks with a passion. Never mess with them. Also, i never put threadlocker on brake bolts. I’ m sure it’s good safe practice and’manufacturers do it but i’ve never heard or seen one unscrewing itself from it’s location.

BE CAREFUL SOME GAS CHARGE SHOCKS CAN SHOOT OUT LIKE A SHOT GUN SLUG THIS OLDER CHEAP FORK IS NOT DANGEROUS BUT SOME BETTER FORKS SHOULD NOT BE MESSED WITH ! THIS CHEAP FORK EVEN WHEN ITS WORKING 100 % IS DANGEROUS JUNK PERFORMANCE WISE BETTER OFF DRILLING THROUGH IT AND LOCKING IT OUT .
