I notice these forks have a serial number. This reveals some information to the person who understand some basics. Fork travel, where it's made and of course serial. You may have to contact SR Suntour for advice on the part numbers like I did. One of my forks I bought New Old Stock didn't include a brake hose clamp, so I finally found a dealer than did sell them and ordered 2 of them. I may lose one in the future, or break it. but cheap. Really helpful.

Great vid. RJ. Here's a cheap hack that doesn't seem to get a lot of mention. Look up plumbers tape or silicone tape. Usually its 1-inch wide and come in rolls. I bought a 10 foot roll in black (in adhesives aisle) at home depot for $4.95. wrap around chainstay to prevent chain slap. It only sticks to itself and pretty thick. A little prettier than old tire tube and zip ties. Enough to do 3 bikes i think.

@forevercomputing4 жыл бұрын
Actually, the information here is enough for the average person to take on. There were no bearing settings, or pre-load adjustments for anything. Just loosen parts, take note, clean, regrease and install. But don't over do it. The brake lever arms you could just unbolt and put to the side and they will reattach without further adjustment.

That's what I thought when I opened one for the first time but mine have 2 bolts, I broke the one without the spring because it was stuck and eaten by rust and corrosion and now I have a fork with 1 spring and 1 bolt just like the one in this video.
@chrislukes90374 жыл бұрын
@@paullmight42 I think usually forks will have the spring in one fork leg (whether an air or coil spring) and the damping parts in the other (compression and/or rebound damping, if they have these at all). Since this fork has no damping there's nothing in the other leg, but the other coiled forks you've seen with two bolts might have had damping parts in the other leg that needed to be bolted in order to slide with the lowers.

Alternatively, your fork might have damping circuits in the other leg (these don't provide the *support* for the suspension that the spring does, but help to fine-tune the *rate* at which the forks compress and rebound). Often forks that have damping will have the spring in one leg and the dampers in the other.

Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years.
