This story is the best example to show the difference between your best friend and lover . Your best friend is who makes you fill happy and comfortable in every situation just like Max who knows everything happening to her But he never tried to take her out from that situation . And a lover is who can do anything to get you out from every toxic situation or people just like him .

In the beginning I also thought the same. But I guess the real differentiator between maxtern and Bryant was the money and class. Bryant has the house of his father where he could ask indy to stay, also he has his father's money to ask her for date in restaurant and the respect and status of his father because of which he is treated very nicely by Clarice even when seen with indy. On the other hand maxtern didn't have all these perks. He belongs to very ordinary background. He couldn't openly communicate his feelings unlike Bryant. It's because of his (middle class) upbringing i guess where one is not taught to openly express their feelings especially in case of love and relationship. He was hesitant, not sure of her feeling, fear of rejection or loosing on friendship with her. But as indy says to him in the end that he was there with her during some of her worst times. I accept that he couldn’t or didn't do some material or concrete things to make her situations better but in such situation even listening to someone is something to be grateful for. I was also offended by maxtern not responding properly to her call after that incident. And I still feel that he could have done better. But if I look through his perspective, then I think his rather cold response should not be seen in isolation. That's product of several things. 1. He himself was in a difficult situation at hospital. 2. He has been listening to her grievances for years and may be there would have some instances where she would have told similar incidents and that’s why he might have not been able to fathom the intensity of the situation. 3. Suppose, even he would have understood her situation and he wanted to her. But how could have he helped apart from just talking to her, comforting her emotionally. On the level of material help, I guess he was helpless. He was just a student like her. He might not have space like Bryan which he could have offered to her. Neither his father is a therapist and who has knowledge of all the legalities of the situation. Because on practical level all this was needed. Even Bryant talks to his father before asking indy to stay at his house. But I give full credit to the Bryant's father for Raising him into a such a gentleman. He is genuinely a very kind hearted person. He really understands the situations and is also very mature and respectful. Note- I don't completely turn down your point. Even my heart says Bryant is the hero. I idealises him. But on practical level I connect more with Maxtern personally because ideals are rarely possible or if it's possible then it's very rare. So right I guess I am like Maxtern aspiring to be Bryant. So considering Maxtern an underdog who didn't have a such a great father to fall back upon my mind compelled me to deconstruct the comfortable opinion and think against the grain😂

See the contrast between the two kinds of people. The utterly selfish greedy and the great young friend who greasciously unselfishly stepped back to let her know that he will still be her friend even though he lost her as his girlfriend and also the father of Bryan's unselfish wise way of taking care of the girl. Its a movie to be recommended , a lot to learn if you are willing to learn. The most important lesson for me is two types of men shown in the movie "Problem-Solvers" and "Problem-Managers". Max never thought of bringing her out of the problem ,he didn't think far to the level of asking for help.....just stay calm, be good, do the dishes early ,try to make the breakfast early , don't leave any area unclean ,...just try to keep been used, maltreated, abused ,for as long as they give you shelter.

This was one of the nicest movies I've ever seen. The boys were actually decent human beings who shared their feelings, with the main girl AND with a parent. So, if you walked into a room and people were acting the way, the people were in this movie with that type of dialogue. You would think it was totally normal and natural and nothing about it would strike you is absolutely bizarre? I guess I just don’t see, how a movie with acting as bad as this when had in certain parts with dialogue as forced as a lot of it was could be considered real lol every other comment talking about how this is the most realistic interpretation of the reality of this sort of thing or that it’s the best version you’ve ever seen… I mean, this was like Hallmark movie quality corniness at points with acting in certain parts that was just so bad lol it was a inappropriate modernized take on the classic Cinderella trope… I guess another reason I don’t necessarily think it’s as incredibly realistic as I love you seem to think so. It’s because the most fucked up part about any of this is that most kids dealing with some type of abuse in the home, don’t get any help. Ever. So, I’m real happy you all think this fairytale isn’t just as much of a fairytale as it was, but what happens in this movie, the way it happens in this movie, that doesn’t happen in real life. Not the way it happened here. There’s nothing realistic about this movie.

@cassiebanks3 жыл бұрын
This is how ADULTS should behave when dealing with rejection. I hate to say this, but as a woman you will have to deal with this all your life; not abuse, but remembering to love yourself enough to veer away from abusive people. They are everywhere, even more so now. Equality for all is a steep hill this nation (US) has a long way to climb. Many of us who've been struggling up it for 50+ years...well you start to lose your ability to have compassion for people who are abusive because they believe you don't have the right to be happy because of your skin color or who you love. Be aware enough about your life to realize that while you may lust after someone because they are cute, it doesn't mean they're going to treat you well. If you have to make excuses for the way someone else behaves towards you, that person doesn't have your best interests at heart and is making you not have your best interests at heart either. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

@@cassiebanks Absolutely. Adults need this as well, my point, they learn how to deal with emotions in childhood. If they are never taught how to handle rejection, that someone saying no is okay, boundaries, hurt feelings, they turn into dysfunctional adults. We all see it every day. Tbh, when I saw her shaking and crying near the tree after running away, it was literally heartbreaking and I somehow saw myself in her place. How trauma feels, shaking, sobbing, loosing control over emotions and to feel such confusion over who you are.
@shannonhensley29423 жыл бұрын
While some of it is realistic the majority is not. They couldn't quite figure if she knew she was being abused or not. And the relationships with the boys were not realistic. No boy would just believe someone is in a relationship with them because the girl needed help while sick, and then never say anything or do anything to express that relationship. The whole thing gave me a bad vibe. And getting her a cat at the end was it for me. No one should just gift someone a cat. They never even asked her if she was ready for a cat. She just ran away from home and is in the middle of a court case where she found out that all of it was using her for her money. A cat is not a toy.

I wish all teens could see this movie. Bryan is an example of a gentleman. He shows genuine care, and even when attracted to her, he exhibited respect and restraint. It was good to see a son and dad discussing things. And Bryan said she needed to figure things out with Macron. Then when he questioned that, his dad verbalized why he had done the right thing. So many good examples here. And then...the syrup. Wow! What should be family's everyday functioning was new to her.

@elmokirkwood39692 ай бұрын
@@saksiyah981 what was realistic about it? Are you inferring that it’s common reality for people who are victims of abuse, particularly those who are in the foster system or not being raised by their parents, to have a wealthy family that happened to be professionally involved in this type of advocacy just appear and provide you with a place to live and way to escape the situation without having to shoulder any cost? Then also getting hundreds of thousands of dollars at the end of it? That’s realistic? No… Most people who suffer through this kind of abuse never get out of the situation. Nobody helps them and it never gets better until they age out of the Foster care or run away from home. This is different, yes, but realistic? No. Not at all. It’s a fantasy, just like Cinderella has always been a fantasy. and it’s a good thing, gives people something to hope for… But, I’ve just seen far too many comments about how realistic this is and it just isn’t.

No one deserves to be treated like this☹ Praying that things get better to those, never lose hope and never be afraid to seek help when they needed it so much. If there is someone that you know suffering like this, Let them feel that they are good and they deserve better. Good life, good environment, and good family. Be a family.

The trauma of losing her only support system, her loving mom and then thrown into an abusive family and dehumanized. So sad that she doesn't even know love or recognize abuse. She is so apologetic because she has only known hatred for ten years. This unfortunately, happens to kids in foster care.
@lyrichawkins69943 жыл бұрын
I recently realized that this happened to me, I had no idea and I thought that I was the reason for my mothers suffering. She always went on and on about how she does everything for us but her actions betrayed her words and since she had been telling me this for so long I believed it. When I realized I was really shocked because I thought she was the perfect mother because that’s what she told me.
@CytherX3 жыл бұрын
When your abused, you don't have the confidence to stand up for yourself and you tend to see the best in others. You keep hoping that if you do everything right then they will treat you better or at least you can avoid their wrath. Or you just shut down emotionally and withdraw to a space where no matter what they say, you'll just let everything bounce off you. Basically just dead inside. Its hard once you leave because you worry about how they will retaliate. Without a support system behind you to catch you, it can be really hard to leave.

At first it seemed like a Disney channel movie. But it was super deep. Everything was handled maturely, and the characters were relatable. 10/10. Amazing.

That one simple scene of her asking 'those are for me?' when Bryant asked if she wants syrup. That already made me tear up😭

Ok, at first I thought this was a cute movie, but after watching the whole thing, it's so much more. It really shows us how important it is to treat others well.

This kind of low-budget movie is so refreshing to watch. It's worth the time.

That's the most obedient cat I've ever seen in my life. It's calm and gentle and stays still in her arms.

SAMMEEEEEEE!!! I love how that they didn't put the emphasis on relationships and that she and Bryant started out as real friends and nothing more until her problem was solved. Even more so that Bryant wasn't possessive of Indy and he even invited Maxton to come over whenever he wanted to. To top it off, Maxton understood that he needed to just be a friend to Indy and nothing more and had no beef with Indy and Bryant being together and even more so, encouraged them being together. And I lovveedddd how Bryant kept his dad in the know with what he was doing and went to him for advice, like that was BIG for me, Bryant was respectful to authority, this movie wasn't abt "true love" it was abt real life and how to help people that are being physically or emotionally abused. MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE EVERRRRRRRR

They could be in their early 20's but yes, they're not models, which is nice.
