Thanks for sharing your solo adventure. I know what you mean about stopping and listening; I was with friends and we were hiking one of the Presidential Mountains in New England. At one point, I said to the guys, "Hey, listen...do you hear that?" The said, "What?" I said, "It's completely quiet." We were up in a valley section of the mountain and there wasn't a sound. It was a good experience. I just bought an 11' 6" VESL SUP and I'm looking forward to taking it out for its maiden voyage. Cheers and stay safe

Ah man what a good video - escape, peace, cleaning beaches, foraging for food, wild cooking, wild camping, planning, oh and paddle boarding ☺️. Good insight into a simple exciting trip and board choice - I’m about to pull the trigger on a Starboard Touring Deluxe 12,6” - (finally on sale) would that have been as good in chop? 🙌 keep it coming Reuben!
@SUPboardermag5 жыл бұрын
Yeah its hard to tell how good the Starboard 12'6' would of been in that chop. Im sure it would of coped well too. But like I said in the video the RSS battens are great when its rough. Will has done loads of Touring on the Starboard and he loves it. Both Red and Starboard make great boards. Thanks for your great comments. Reuben

Reuben, I don't recommend using an inflatable for long cruise. If you ever puncture your board,you could be in deep trouble ;),especially if you cruise offshore. I am glad to see that you are expending the limits of SUP. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Japan,take the time to come over Okinawa's outer islands (Yaeyama islands). I will be more than happy to show you around. Over here,we kite surf,wind surf.ride waves and cruise offshore on daily base. Keep it light.
@SUPboardermag5 жыл бұрын
Hey Tara, You are right if you're doing some serious touring away from coast and maybe on a big lakes a hard board is the best, but for most micro adventures an iSUP is perfect. But obviously you're going to have to look after it more. Japan looks like an epic place to paddle. I guess the potential SUP adventures are endless out there. Thanks Reuben

I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and other that contain info on Red Paddle boards and I was confused when you said this 11ft board was better than say the 12.6 or the 13.2 touring board which was designed for the exact kind of trip in these exact conditions, do you think Red Paddle have done it wrong? It’s really confusing because other videos on your channel and website promote the touring boards for this kind of journey.
@SUPboardermag2 жыл бұрын
Im sorry if I have confused you. The basics to touring board lengths.... A longer board is definitely faster in flatter water conditions but it can become a bit of a handful if using it in rough or moving water conditions like I was doing in this video. Therefore a shorter touring board around 11 foot or 12 foot long can work much better in rougher water conditions like in this video. If you are going to be paddling on flat water most of the time or only really going out in slight wind chop then a longer board like a 13'2 or even a 14 foot could be the best option. But if you are using it in rougher conditions or on the sea a lot of the time a shorter base touring board will be better. I think we need to do a video on this. Does this make sense and help at all many thanks Reuben

@jonathanmitchell39515 жыл бұрын
Rui Fonseca Hard boards will scratch and dent more easily?
@SUPboardermag5 жыл бұрын
Yeah like Jonathan says, A hard board would have been a nightmare getting out over all those rocks and up the cliff. Hard boards are still great but better where you are going from beach to beach with easier access points. Sometimes when you are touring you just don't want to stress of dealing with a hard board. Thanks Reuben

@@SUPboardermag thanks for the response. One more question though, aren't you scared that an iSUP board will get punctured or cut on those same rocks?
@SUPboardermag5 жыл бұрын
@@rui_mcf Yes you have to be a little careful but the Red boards are tough and as long as the rocks aren’t too sharp they wont really damage a board. I have used Isup for many years and I have never put a hole or cut a Red paddle co. And im not kind to them! The only thing i would look out for would be rock oysters , they can be the worst!
