Amy Rose has been overlooked for a long time in the Sonic series, but now she finally is playable in the classic games! ...but do they let her go super? We discuss why a silly little glow matters so much.

Amy has a character in the Adventure Games! She's kind and empathetic, but impulsive and gets in way over her head. She loves deeply, but sometimes too deeply, which is where her infatuation for Sonic turns obsessive. But in scenarios like protecting Birdie, its her greatest asset. She likes shopping, because she cares about her fashion. She has a life outside of adventuring unlike Sonic & co., having her own place of which she's seen getting groceries for in the first minute of the game - it's a unique aspect to her that no other character shares. She's a city girl, not hunkered in a workshop, stuck on a floating island, or aimlessly exploring the world. But as she states in her opening, she does long for that adventure. It's part of why she loves Sonic so much - he can give her excitement. She has a snippy side! She gets angry when Sonic doesn't listen to her. And at the badniks throughout the game. It's a part of her emotional nature. And again, it's not solely a flaw. Her sticking up for Gamma is an example of that. And that was enough to get Sonic to not hurt him. I think dismissing her as having "no personality" isn't really fair. Especially when you praise Fleetway Amy who, let's face it, has very little going on in terms of distinction. She's a "nice, level-headed" Sonic, and that's it. Honestly I think the reason people do like Fleetway Amy more is because...she's not feminine. I do feel like a lot of people mistake "tomboy" for "complex female character". When Amy is plenty complex! As complex as any of the characters in the Adventure era. She just leans toward the feminine side. And that's okay.

I think you've hit on something really important, which is that Amy is an unapologetically feminine character both in appearance and exhibiting typically feminine traits, but still gets to play the hero, play the same game as the boys and keep them on their toes, and that's why I love her as a character and why I want her to be a playable character in the core cast. Little girls (and indeed, little boys too!) deserve to know that femininity isn't weakness, nor is it inferior to masculinity, and that feminine people can be strong and resilient and heroic the same way masculine people can. Having said that I also do like Fleetway Amy, and I like plenty of tomboy characters too, but they're so often compared favourably to the "vapid" and "weak" feminine character.

This truly is the year of Amy! Being playable in three games, her getting her own anniversary issue in the fall, and even her fortune cards are getting printed! She's finally getting the recognition she deserves! I think the comics have been doing her some good justice in the last few years, but it's great that other forms of media are as well.

Every time I hear about this I'm just reminded that Blaze exists given that she has the Sol Emeralds which she can utilize to have a super form of her own on top of her fire abilities. And if we look at the movies version she would turn Super Emerald like Eggman that seems to have no difference to Super Hedgehog mode aside from the Master Emerald giving anyone access to that reality warping power.

The hammer tossing ability is actually a reference to Sonic the Fighters: When she activates her Hyper mode, her Hammer Throw attack gets upgraded so that she throws a whole bunch in rapid succession instead of just one.

I’m going to be honest, I think the outcry against the Sonic friends is what truly caused the dip in the franchise’s quality (there were other factors but please hear me out) All Sonic games kept having the problem of “Sonic games don’t last long enough, we need to add some gimmick to stretch out game time” (Unleased) or that didn’t happen and games were really short (Colours) - which always confused me because they already had the solution of other characters! They didn’t even have to come up with new move sets. But because some people thought the friends were the cause of problems rather than a symptom, they all get removed. It’s a shame really

People just saw games like sonic heroes and 06 and made them out to be the be all end all of the series, where if you feature more than one character at a time you would end up complicating everything (even though it didn't). I don't even think sonic is a series you can overcomplicate to begin with since all it entails is just "guy runs fast, saves the day" and you can just use that however you want, with whoever you want.

i really dislike it when all that changes about them is that they glow slightly… Super Sonic is so iconic and unique (hides a picture of Super Saiyan Goku behind my back), and it’s a real bummer when all that changes about a character is their brightness. Knuckles at least turns pink in Super/Hyper Tails is already yellow, not much you can do there, but when he’s in Hyper (yes, Origins makes it so that Tails now can use the Chaos Emeralds, meaning we now have Hyper Tails) he gets the flickies. same with mighty, ray, and Amy. It doesn’t feel like they gained their own Super/Hyper forms, they just are using the Emeralds as a battery. Like pseudo super saiyan, in a way. The worst part is that only Super Sonic ever hovers or flies in their normal animations. Everyone else gets a reskin, and Sonic literally flies. It feels like a lot more effort went into designing Super Sonic than any other classic Super character.

I mean, the fact that Sonic is the only one to change color in his super form comes from technical limitations of Mega Grive/Genesis, and the second character to change color in a transformation was Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2. But it really needs more personalized transformations for the rest of the cast.

I like to think that classic Amy having a weirder move set ties into her learning to hold her own. The advance series moveset is more refined in my opinion and it looks like she really mastered her usage with the hammer by that time. So her looking a little janky in the older titles makes a bit of sense to me since she's a newb.

My only issue with super Amy is that the game never directly calls that “Super Amy” (same applies for Hyper Amy). I mean, it clearly is a super form, in the same way, tails and knuckles have their super forms. But the game just says “Amy has all the chaos emeralds“ and when the trailer showed off super Amy, it just said “play a SUPERPOWERED Amy Rose“ Like come on, we all know it’s a super form just say it. But for what it’s worth, I’m just happy that she got one at all.

Technically, Amy has the original Tails situation in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where getting the Super Emeralds makes her Super Amy. Her form when she gets the Chaos Emeralds goes unnamed.

Honestly, I really like the old design of Amy. I wasn't around when she was first introduced, instead I saw that design for the first time long after the other hedgehogs were introduced. With all the hedgehogs lined up she really doesn't look like "Sonic but pink and female" since Sonic's base silhouette is the core of ALL of them so she looks just as unique as Shadow and Silver. I'd say her getup makes her stand out even more amongst all the hedgehogs.

Amy being way younger than Sonic was the case in the games too. In her debut in Sonic CD, Amy was 8 years old. When Sonic Adventure came around, they retconned Amy's age to 12, making the age gap only three years

I'm pretty darn hopeful for Sonic (and by extension Amy). While Sega's been trying to clean up the mess that has been this franchise, they've been steadily trying new things and listening to fans (Frontiers having a more ambitious story, listening to fans with the updates, adding in a bunch of new content), and giving importance to Amy (classic Amy even) feels like a big step. It's all far from perfect, but even if they're baby steps, they're still steps in the right direction.

This could give Sonic the vacation he deserves and relax more; So Sonic could consider it. For the record, since IDW has Amy a calm and assertive leader, Sonic could be preparing her to lead the team from now on. That's possibly why he's grooming her with training battles and getting stronger. For Amy this will be the most exciting thing she ever wanted. Since she become a hero in Sonic Adventure, SEGA has been wanting to do this for quite some time.

I think I said it before under one of your videos, but I'm gonna say it again, I really love Amy in Advance because playing as her isn't as easy as playing as Sonic. Just jumping isn't enough to eliminate enemies for example. Amy in Advance isn't as strong as Sonic, and yet, she still goes after Eggman on her own if you pick her. And I think it's admirable and depicts her as a strong woman, who isn't afraid to go on adventures like Sonic despite being less powerful than he is. I respect her for that.

It doesn't have much to do with the topic, but I would like to see a unique transformation for Amy that has relation with magic or mystical things. I think it's more interesting when a character has something unique and different than following the same path as everyone else. Plus it fits her character very well. Just saying.

Agreed, more effort needs to be put into giving her (and more characters) an unique characterization and personality. She's been into tarot and mysticism since the Sonic CD days, they've been bringing that back lately for merch so why not incorporate it into the plot. Her transformation/abilities could also involve some kind of connection to Flickies and nature, referencing Adventure.

StC Amy is the best depiction of Amy and that is *because* she was different to the games. She was (mostly, if you ignore her introduction) written with way more respect - even the weapon Sega gave her is a TOY squeaky hammer. She is a LOT of fun to play in Origins though. It may kind of be easy mode, but she's great for just smashing through the enemies in new ways.

I remember seeing that in some older games Amy’s name was Rosie the Rascal and I used to call her that for fun and I still do. However I looked her up more info and her name apparently is Amelia Rose..? Idk, but I do know for certain her name was Rosy the Rascal at one point before officially changing it. I also love how the made it the name for Anti Amy in the comics :3

​@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 I think the reason why tails and knuckles only glow In the original was due to not having enough space for two entirely new sprite sheets just for unique looks for super tails and super knuckles and used the glow method as a way to give them both supers with tails getting the birds to give super tails something offensive with his form otherwise it would just be invincibility and a speed boost And they just used the glow method for the other playable additions ie mighty,ray and Amy is due to having to come up with a super sprite sheet for them which with how strict the time they usually give the devs I don't see having enough time to implement unique looks for those three

I feel like a big part of the reason Amy never spindashed starts with the fact that the first main game she's playable in is Adventure. In Sonic3 and Knuckles and such, all three characters have to progress through the same kind of levels, ones built around Sonic's ability to go fast with many spots requiring spindash for the speed boost if you lose your momentum or you can't run up the rampwall.Knuckles and Tails, while having alternative tools, could potentially end up in a situation where they could not progress if there was a dev oversight, so they changed the color of the ball and let them spindash. Adventure on the other hand, each character had their own levels, designed just for them. In that case the appeal was having all the different playstyles of all the different characters, so making them all be able to spindash would take away from that by making them same-ey by all sharing an ability, and then all the levels would be designed accounting for that ability instead, thus making all the different characters levels feel a bit more like the same kind of gameplay. So, Amy didn't get spindash because she didn't need it because the levels were designed around her NOT playing like Sonic. It was likely the fact that she couldn't spindash in Adventure that she wasn't given it in future games, because in trying to make her not play like Sonic, they accidentally cemented the idea that she simply could not do it. She should have been given spindash by Sonic Advance though. Anyway if you made it this far, hi, I'm Ralon, and I'm salty we didn't get rose gold super Amy.

another neat quirk of amy's drop dash is that it's the same speed no matter how you hit the ground, so in some cases it's faster and others slower. it's a surprisingly technical move and i think that deserves credit.

I've always been conflicted with Amy, on one hand I feel she (during the modern age) should replace Knuckles as the power member of the trio, as for Knuckles is tied to Angel Island and breaking him away from it and the ME leads to his character decay. On the other hand she has this whole normal mobian citizen vibe that not only offers a brand new perspective but by her being not as skilled as a result led to her having a style solely her own. Which is why I'm also disappointed by Amy in Origins being Sonic but a girl with a stronger insta shield and drop dash instead of her Advance moveset. However, I don't want it to be retconed that she had her own adventures in 1,2 and 3 and do think her younger self does need to be used sparingly as if she is used too much it would utterly ruin the arc she would have in the Adventure era. (thus denying her growth) On the super forms though? Amy, Knuckles and Tails ALL need canon unique designed super forms for sure, they just need some thought put into their placement. While Tails and especially Amy need to wait for the Modern era to capitalize on their growth as characters, Super and Hyper Knuckles are shoe ins for appearing in the Classic era. Heck while it would be scummy, SEGA could make a profit off a Origins ++ if it included a new canon and uniquely designed Hyper Knuckles vs Super Mecha Sonic fight alone.

Same, although it makes more sense for Sonic alone and I think that he wears that namesake better than anyone else. How about this? Knuckles takes Master Emerald, finds a new home as the island itself is now vacant, and dug it underneath so nobody, but himself can find it where it is going to be. This proves my point why Amy had been handed anything on a silver platter because they tend to give her the easy way out, rather than hard.

@@mazkeraid4039 I have to disagree, IMO it makes no sense at all in universe for Sonic to be the only one to get a real super form, given whats been shown and said about the emeralds. Either way though that ship has already sailed thanks to Shadow and Silver, its just a matter of at least getting Knuckles a form. That wouldn't work because emerald radar is a thing in the setting. (its how Sonic and Tails found Angel Island) However by restoring Knuckles Chaotix back to being canon you could have the guardian duties go to Mighty and Ray, which would also explain where they have been. The only issue with my idea is that Chaos would need to meet Mighty but that could be set up in IDW. As for Amy yeah you're right, I can only hope Game Apologist doesn't get the Classic retcons he wants, Amy going from yearning to rejoin Sonic out of a sense of adventure and then training herself, getting better bit by bit each game in the Adventure Era was truly special.

Last I checked, Angel Island remains grounded even with the master emerald restored in Sonic Adventure and now that Tikal and Chaos warped away, we don’t see the island rising up again. Of course, she was special in Adventure 1, Adventure 2 did little with her as you can easily write the story without her, Heroes’ portrayal of Amy was kind of… resettled if that makes sense.

(you can even see both in the canon Sonic Frontiers Knuckles animated short) Chaos in particular tried to help out in the Emeral crisis (which is why it was playable in Battle) and according to Ian was holding the Earth's water together in Unleashed. I also have to disagree with SA2, here Amy is slowly accepted as a actual part of the group and is the catalyst for redeeming Shadow. With Heroes....yeah though she is better in the dialogue in the stages.

@@TheSwordsman100 Sure, sure, but you can have Tails releasing Sonic from prison and Rouge coming to terms that she does find something worth more than just getting a jewel when you have save a sea turtle which should’ve fleshed her out further. That way, you can have the events play out similarly, because most of the scene ignores Amy’s presence and you even see Sonic handing out the inhibitor ring to Rouge, slowly but surely have that sort of feeling that she’s reeling back her own flaw. You may as well wonder how on earth did she get up on that platform this high. Boat would be likely, if it’s not too low. Uh no, for story purposes, they did not comeback. Chaos may be back for Sonic Battle, but Tikal is barely seen.

I've never seen a problem with Amy not being on the same level as Sonic and the others since to me it kinda made sense. If Sonic Adventure, Sonic Forces and to a lesser extent Who Murdered Sonic the Hedgehog are anything to go by, Sonic and his friends are sorta an exception even within their own universe. Not all Hedgehogs can run as fast as Sonic or turn into a ball like he can, Sonic and his friends are special cases. To me Amy despite being one of Sonic's friends has always fallen more into the category of civilian then the rest of her friends. While someone like Tails lives in the middle of nowhere in a small home and Knuckles lives in a floating island in the middle of the ocean, someone like Amy is just casually going out shopping for groceries or hanging out with friends like a normal person. To me Amy has always been sorta an in between of a normal civilian and one of the special people, someone who fits in with normal society while also being capable enough to go out on Adventures like Sonic and friends. To me Amy being one of the weakest of her friends made sense, HOWEVER I also think that since it's been years and Amy has been on enough Adventures that I think that at the very least she deserves an expanded moveset to match her years of experience (sorta like what they did with her for Project 06). The one thing I DON'T think they should do is just allow Amy to turn Super out of nowhere, as far as I'm aware Amy has never been shown to even know how the emeralds work much less know how to draw out their power. Of course I'm not saying I'm entirely against the idea of Amy going Super (I like her Super fan arts too), I just think that if they ever do it that they should treat it like a special event and treat it with the respect it deserves as a big character building moment. (Maybe give her her own game or something to expand on her character and by the end she transforms into her Super form to show the pinical of her growth as a character, or something like that.)

Even though Amy is a anthro hedgehog who can roll into a ball, not a human. I don’t care that she is a Sonic clone, she’s meant to be a feminine version of Sonic with none of the crazy abilities. Also, I noticed that she just got more push than other characters who happened to be female and I detested it more and more. It doesn’t help that with Origins, she just crowbars into the main cast unceremoniously to make you think that she had the importance from the very start, when it doesn’t be the case originally. Also, in my opinion, all the hedgehogs should roll into a ball. There is no excuse for this.

I feel like everyone's sort of just getting caught in the whirlwind of playable/"Super" Amy while also completely disregarding her actual character, traits, and ironically, "origins". Adding onto thatーI was surprised that Nick didn't mention this at all, especially when raving about her design, that of which her character and design are made up of elements that Naoto Ohshima and Kazuyuki Hoshino (and apparently other staff) found desirable in girls at the time, which taking into account Japan's culture at the time, completely makes sense. Amy is meant to be the heart of the team! She's supposed to be strong in her own way! ("Ways" when taking the Magic Hammer into account!) Making her just another fighter (and especially an Easy-Mode Sonic) is lame! And lastly, NO!! Retconning her whole story just for the sake of a dumb character add-on DLC ISN'T cool! Although I'm fairly certain that Twitter video Nick brought up is meant to just be a joke, not them actually saying she went back in time and changed the history of the games. Her routes are going to be just as canon as Knuckles in Sonic 1 (That is to say, not at all). I wish people would just sit and think before going so crazy about all of this. I love that Amy FINALLY feels like part of the core 4. Before. She really felt like she had about as much importance as the Chaotix or Silver. Still a fan favorite and part of stories. Not really anything special. It really felt like they put her in games in the most minuscule role possible. Just because "It's Amy" but not really caring about her. She should have been playable in Mania. She should have had larger roles in games she's appeared in. She was done dirty so often, and I'm glad she gets the respect she deserves. She's not my personal favorite, but I still like her as a character. It's also why. While I would love a Chaotix spinoff game. Amy herself deserves a the time in the Spotlight having her own adventure first.

I agree that its good that Classic Amy gets more attention in the modern era, but I disagree that her characterization in the past was an issue. If anything it was purely a matter of utilization because her story in Adventure wouldn't have mattered for her character if she was always in the thick of it with everyone else. I think her dynamic with Sonic allowed her to stand out where making her as rough and tumble as the boys just left her feeling less unique (for the time Fleetway was more standout but nowadays not so much.) Still, putting Amy as an extra playable character in the classic is pretty much a no brainer and having her as a fourth playable character in Superstars in a natural step for her. I also don't mind her Super form being similar to other non-Sonic classic super forms, because as long it doesn't as long as Tails and Knuckles are stuck with it it doesn't feel like she was purposely made less than the boys. I still think her best gameplay style was the Amy Mania character mod, so what she's got in Origins seems a bit underwhelming by comparison.

tbh considering how fans have interpreted classic amy's moveset in sonic 1 reborn and the like, it really wouldn't hurt for her to have her hammer jump since it can easily keep momentum( though maybe in the fastest levels like chemical plant the jump would be too ridiculous) But I too am glad that Girls are now properly able to play the Original sonic games, as while I am myself a classic amy fan I feel for too long most sonic games (due to what they are) don't allow for girls to enjoy it if they don't like playing a cool, witty hedgehog. Honestly one thing thats kind of interesting about fleetway amy is that some of the comic's creators collabed with a fan comic to sort of end the comic on their own terms since they didnt get the chance to while it was officially running, and they made her in a lesbian relationship with Tekno. While not TECHINCALLY canon, it's got that sort of authorial intent from several creators of of the official fleetway canon and lets be fair there probably isnt going to be a more "official" ending anyways so this is the closest its probably getting. Its kinda interesting seeing amy not actually end up in a sonic relationship in one of the side canons on a technicallity sorta.

Honestly, even an unlockable Arcade Mode that just let's you play as the other characters would be fine to me. Something like that "Sonic Worlds" fan game does. I always thought it could be cool to go through all the levels and bosses in frontiers as the other characters. It doesnt need to follow the story, they could just disable the story segments if we were playing as another character besides the blue blur himself, and let us go through the stages one after another without interruptions. But hey amy, tails and knuckles are getting their own stories in frontiers so that's cool, I hope there's more to it than just being for a tiny portion of the game.

Sonic having one of the few unique Super form designs is honestly just one thing in a much bigger list of things that makes him an anomaly in his own universe. Dude has a history of doing things, beating things, and being immune to things that nobody should be capable of, and no real concrete backstory. It happens so much that I find it unlikely to just be standard plot armor, it's as though there's some hidden lore point about him that they've been keeping secret for decades. It feels too purposeful in the writing for Sonic to be somehow special in a really big way.

Ive been playing Sonic 1 Forever which has Amy playable in it with a moveset similar to Advance and I have to say it has really made me appreciate the classic Amy design. Ive never been a fan of Amys redesign, but neither was I a fan of the original since she was barely a character. But playing an entire playthrough of Sonic 1 as her made me appreciate how expressive and fun she can be. A big reason I played the mod instead of the official game is because I read in reviews on steam that Amy was just "Sonic with a hammer" in Origins Plus which didnt interest me, so I hope Sega can take the hint and make her more unique in the future like this mod.

I love Amy. I was so happy as a kid when I saw a Dreamcast demo set up at Toys 'R' Us and saw you could play as her in Sonic Adventure. And she got her own stories in Sonic the Comic, which as a UK girl, I bought all the time! So, so glad to see her finally getting more love, and I'm so happy to see Classic Amy playable in my favorite Mega Drive games! Officially, I mean. I played as her in those games plenty in fan mods...! In which she had her Sonic Advance movesets, which made the Mega Drive games _really_ interesting. In general, a lot of early Sega ideas were made to stick it to Nintendo. For example, back in the original release of Sonic CD, the only one of Eggman's boss machines with a proper name was the first one, the Egg HVC 001. It was named after the Famicom and made the a pathetic boss (though I think this is kind of a fruitless taunt given you can't really see their name while you fight it and the rest of the non-Metal Sonic fights weren't that impressive either even for puzzle boss standards). I assume Amy was added to CD specifically to show how Sonic differentiates from Mario by portraying him as not interested in the damsel in distress.

I never liked seeing Amy show up, not because I hated her as a character but because as someone who grew up with the 3d games, (06 coming out the year I was born) she never really had a character. If she was ever even in the game, she was a side side character like Blaze and Silver in Colors, just standard issue "I love Sonic!", or filling whatever hole the writers needed, like in forces, which was a slight I found particularly offensive as a long time Sally Acorn fan. I like that she's showing up more main stream and I like what they did with her characterization in Frontiers, I can now say for the first time, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Amy!

Honestly, I didn't like Amy for years, even after she became playable. It was mostly to do with her characterization. It wasn't until somewhere within the last 5-7 years or so that I started taking her seriously as a character. I'm glad she's getting more to do, and overall she's being better-written. And I'm sure I'll love her new playable appearances. Despite what I thought of her characterization for most of her existence, her playable outings were honestly pretty neat IMO, regardless of what individual games we're looking at.

This is technically the first official appearance of Amy in a super form though I am not sure if super Amy will just be locked to the classic style games with tails and knuckles who after 3 never shown their super forms in later entires going as far to state only male hedgehogs have the power to be a super through the chaos emeralds which has always been portrayed like this in the modern style. Super amy could be in the modern style but I think they would have to be an extreme push to do so and how much they will use Amy in the future in the new era of sonic because after 06 she was mainly fortunate appearing in most of the meta era because she is considered a classic character and they feel obliged to put her in there but not playable which did happen with tails and knuckles for a bit meanwhile you get silver, blaze etc not always appear because they don’t have that leverage as the older characters do, only shadow has managed to peak to appear as frequently as the main 4

@@jasam01 not exactly, when you look at heroes it ends up being super sonic with his 2 friends whom he gave them forcefield balls to float in, they don't have any physical change unlike sonic. the devs most likely were lazy giving them actual models for the super forms of them and instead gave them "golde energy shields". 06 does retcon super tails and super knuckles completely as the hedgehog trio end up doing a similar thing in heroes but shadow and silver very clearly had their super forms so it just doesn't mesh well when put together as if those forms no longer exist and that's not a good sign for super tails and super knuckles

also i think there might be a reason why super forms are not given properly to other characters and instead give them a white glow or a sheild in sonic heroes , which has to do with that not every character is supposed to be able to control chaos energy , as in sonic adventure 2 , as the whole point of project shadow is to figure out how to make a being that is able to control the power of the chaos emeralds to help to find a cure to maria by analysing that being , as his capability to control that power which can do so much could help figure a cure to her , as well that they made a big deal out of shadow becoming super , at the transformation cut scene of sonic adventure 2 , so tails and knuckles' transformations in sonic 3 and knuckles were probably for game play reasons , and that could explain why they did not had proper ones , or why they had those golden sheilds in sonic heroes , as for sonic , there is probably something special about him regarding his capability of controling chaos emeralds power , and gerald tried to replicate that with shadow probably thanks to discovering about prophecies regarding sonic like in hidden palace zone , which is a theory , but that's all i have of ideas regarding why other characters don't have proper super forms

Amy is canonically 8-years-old in Sonic CD and 12-years-old with her Sonic Adventure redesign, at least according to Japan, so Sonic's disinterest in her is because of that. It's kind of like Dipper and Wendy from Galaxy Falls--the Precocious Crush trope. So Archie's initial interpretation of her was absolutely correct. The UK comics seemed to make her the same age as Sonic instead, but despite the lack of Princess Sally, they never got together, and she eventually seemed to lose all interest in him. Edited after checking the Japanese manual for Sonic CD, which gives her original age. I think that's important to know because it explains a lot about what sort of character they intended her to be: not a true love interest, but a kid with a crush.

These comments make me happy. :) Sometimes I forget that, for the majority of the public (especially men) femininity isn’t desirable in characters and often characters are praised undeservedly (or at least, no *more* deservedly) when they don’t represent that directly. Seeing *so many* people be so vocal about their support of Amy and classic Amy’s recent direction as an outwardly feminine character people should respect is not something I expected to see today but it’s pleasant nevertheless~

Even fans had a better Super Amy design and I LOVE they were allowed to be creative with the other characters' Super Form. Apparently Iizuka or someone on Sonic Team/SEGA mentioned only "MALE Hedgehogs can go Super" so in other words only Male Hedgehogs get unique Super Forms... which is STUPID. At least Amy had something better than what they did to Super Tails and Super Knuckles in Sonic Heroes. I will NEVER forget how disappointed when I saw the gold bubbles and hated that SEGA wouldn't like the old Super Forms return. Also, were you not aware that Amy Rose's design was actually inspired and based off Minnie Mouse? I could've swore you did research on it and that's why you brought up the Minnie Mouse comparison in the early part of the video, but no it looks like you weren't aware. Amy's design, like Sonic, is based off old cartoons and Minnie was picked to be the "girlfriend" of Sonic like how Minnie was for Micky with Minnie's dress and bow. Or headband in Amy's case. I always loved Amy and it's nice to see her being more loved. Though I will say, Amy from Sonic Advance still has the best gameplay. Apparently Amy is even FASTER than Sonic in Advance 1 if you know how to use her abilities right and clears stages the fastest.

It's not just the fanart; but also the romhacks and custom spritesheets of playable Amy. Playable Amy has been a hope of mine since Origins was announced. Now that I recently finished my playthrough of all the games with her, I feel such a sense of satisfaction at how fun she was to play as. No, I'm not going to hold my breath they'll add her to Mania, but with her now in 3&K, it widens the once narrow lead that game had over Mania in my book.

Amy actually has a pre-existing lorepoint explaining why she would be having adventures in each of the games, and it gets brought up in the video: She's a diehard fangirl of Sonic who's head over heels for him. Origins itself shows off her chasing after Sonic in CD, so that's the obvious thing she's doing in general. She's chasing Sonic. The only real argument for her not being canon I can think of is in regards to CD considering she gets kidnapped, but Knuckles should be guarding the Master Emerald in Sonic 1-2 so it's not like the pieces ever fit into place super well to begin with.
