Making less, bigger games to capture attention sounds great until their are only four live service games per console cycle and those are the only games that come out the entire generation.
@BlargleWargle6 жыл бұрын
I hate Square Enix entirely because of how they've handled Eidos. They called three massively successful games failures because they decided to needlessly inflate the budgets and they screwed over IO Interactive. I think Activision-Blizzard and Valve might be the only companies I hate more. They mention how the Sixth Generation was so good because of the plethora of B-games and such and they're entirely right: REmake, Killer7, MONSTER HUNTER, all great, all smaller projects. *SIXTH GEN BEST GEN* And I would only disagree about those games Pat listed not being hyper-Japanese in that NieR Automata has a needlessly vast and empty open world, like a lot of Western games did for a loooong time.

When this underperforms, are we gonna hear Amy Hennig say that the current market forced Square to throw this much money at the game?
@chasewilson36936 жыл бұрын
You can't blame the market for having standards. Its not the markets job to cut costs or find alternative solutions, its the suppliers. So yes, we will blame the major figureheads behind development for putting far too much money into a game and then complaining that they didn't make their money back through absurd projected sales numbers they have little actual chance of meeting. Why are you shilling so hard for triple A companies? Why are you defending these absurd practices that shit out mediocre at best games, or worse kills of entire series because they can't meet these absurd sales numbers?
@Selvokaz6 жыл бұрын
yeah i just dont see it, Tomb Raider since square got it has looked good, but I just don't hear the clamoring for it that it used to have back in the late 90s or early 2000s.

Games do not need $35M marketing budgets anymore. Seriously, a twitter account, facebook, and youtube channel does most of the work and you can use social media influencers to spread the word and like two trailers.
@naiustheyetti3 жыл бұрын
they never did. the best ad for a game i have ever seen is the majora's mask ad that is essential a amateur "final days on earth" video with sparse gameplay footage. just show us gameplay and/or make a trailer that sets the mood.
@Gungho7311 ай бұрын
@@naiustheyetti My favorite ads were stuff like the Halo 3 and Reach ads online and on TV, because they told you parts of the story/fight the games wouldn't and felt natural in their universe. But I admit those didn't sell me more on the games then they already did. Like the money would've gotten spent, it just got allocated quicker. Usually the benefit of a big TV ad, back when I actively watched TV, was just letting me know a game existed.

@Walt_Xander946 жыл бұрын
6349 256 The new Tomb Raider *already* ripped off Uncharted. Lara in the last two games was just a Nathan Drake knock-off, with SJW bullshit. Not the original Lara who mainly use two Desert Eagles, and fought freakin' dinosaurs and demons. Speaking of, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider looks like it will try to have that. Lara dealing with Mayan shit is pretty close.
@J_Themborn6 жыл бұрын
Uncharted/Last of Us and Tomb Raider have kinda just been taking from each other and it seems like a friendly relationship like Neil Druckmann twitted about how he wantd to play Rise. Rise had the crafting (ish) and bottles from Last of Us and Lost Legacy had the lock picking even though in TR it was either hold or mash, the way the UI looked and was placed felt like TR and the bombing scene to I guess. All that said Rise had a pick axe upgrade that turned it into a grappling hook.... And I want it to be used as a weapon like Kratos old blades I don't care how dumb it is.

IamTMan007 How has the SJW term lost meaning? Its not like that bs hasnt stopped. Look at Star Wars. And its funny that you say Im complaining about women, when I just went over how the original Lara Croft was, and still is, awesome. While the reboot version is nothing like the original, and is just a Nathan Drake copy.
@kristalenz26196 жыл бұрын
They really need to do their research, games are overall getting cheaper and easier to make, the budget they are showing are factoring in publishing and Advertising. on a 100 million budget, advertising alone can easily take up to 60 million.

Yal Rathol that seems like way, way to little. For the ridiculous length and quality of animation/detail I was expecting a bare minimum of 80mill.
@connorp30306 жыл бұрын
Yal Rathol oh I wasn't doubting your number, I was saying that they obviously made incredible use of the budget they had, and as well as the people behind the artistic design and game design being very talented, the people that managed the staff must also be very talented at that.
@FlashStrife6 жыл бұрын
Yal Rathol Not how that works. Publishers get a percentage of that $60, something like 25-40% or so, can't remember at the moment, the rest is split between a bunch of different stuff like instore advertising, printing of discs, transport, the cut the store gets, etc. This is for physical copies mind you. They get a bigger cut of those $60 for digital sales since you cut out some of those expenses.

@malikoniousjoe6 жыл бұрын
furyberserk No, there only exist three games in the original trilogy and the new one is andromeda. Helps keep the stink away ya know? Like how Halo had the original trilogy, the spinoff trilogy of ODST Wars and Reach, and the new reclaimer trilogy.
@a.g.m87906 жыл бұрын
Mass Effect series isn’t even AAA. None of those games had much to them tbh. Just long corridors with a few large square rooms to “explore” and a 3 response 1 question dialogue system that always had the same binary outcomes. Ironically enough the last one had the most content but it was also broken as shit
@malikoniousjoe6 жыл бұрын
#Hollyhood To also be fair, Mass Effect's content is the story and character interactions anyway. The gameplay in single player was just the car you rode in ya kno?
@a.g.m87906 жыл бұрын
*Malikonious Joe* Facts. Tbh I like the Mass Effect games even Andromeda. Actually especially Andromeda
@malikoniousjoe6 жыл бұрын
#Hollyhood To each their own on that account. I didn't care much for Andromeda or its characters because they seemed to ME3-ish, allow me to elaborate. These characters are all generally first time explorers, yet they act and behave like Shepards crew did after 800 firefights and near death missions. It felt unearned in my opinion, and because they were acting that way right out of the gates, it felt like nobody was in a rush to save everyone's lives as opposed to the feel of "Been here before, no problem". That said, the game still had a lot of neat things like the new races, it's just a shame it released unfinished That said, I'm similar in that I like Halo 4 despite a lot of it's failings, but I also think it makes for a better Call of Duty experience than a Halo one.

Heres how to make a game. You map out the gameplay and levels. Find some free assets in the unity store to layout the alpha build and testing. Once the final build of everything is done replace the asset flips with the REAL graphics and textures ment for the games final release. Test the fuck out of it. Now make a demo to give to people and by people I mean twitch streamers and pay them the several hundreds of the publishing budget to many popular streamers. You'll ether have plenty of publishing budget to ether A: make DLC to make more content or B: For patches. Release the game digital only and make big sales. You don't need to spend insane money on this budget.
@J_Themborn6 жыл бұрын
Shadow should do better than Rise at least, for some reason the example of Mass Effect 2 and Witcher 2 is never followed for planned trilogies and everyone trying to force a franchise to happen instead of just making a good sequel, they always has to have the second game have nothing happen and end on a cliffhanger. The difference between Rise and Deus Ex or Andromeda was the story in Tomb Raider was minimal and there was only one scene that was teasing another game... Or two if I'm remembering the manor DLC right
@BlargleWargle6 жыл бұрын
Joel Rodriguez Shadow probably won't be released as a timed exclusive for an unpopular console like Rise was, and also probably not the same day as a bigger title like Rise did with Fallout 4.

@ricemazter6 жыл бұрын
psychologyman I won't say that you're wrong, but another factor is that publishers continuously tout their big graphics and massive open worlds. Consumers share some of the blame, but the expectation of bigger and more expensive games has been crammed down our throats as a selling point for decades. They could've backed off at any point and actively tried to sell the audience something smaller and more focused, but they didn't. They opened this can of worms and actively dumped them all over our faces. Now they're running out of worms...I think this analogy has gotten away from me. At any rate, after shilling their visuals and scope, people want more. They've forced themselves into an unsustainable business model propped up by gimmicks, dlc, microtransactions, and live services. All of this ultimately hurts consumers and creates a worse experience, but people continue to eat it up.
