A friend of mine worked on his yacht. His equally cheap and classless wife bought him a £500,000 alligator skin chess set. If anyone on this thread worked at BHS, that’s where your pension went. I hope you take pleasure watching him fall. It’s going to be a great show.

It's thanks to trade unions that people have access to healthcare, safety in the workplace, minimum wages, holidays, maternity leave, protection from unfair dismissal, pensions, What have tax evaders given us? Jobs? Most of them are outsourced overseas to poorly paid workers in third-world nations. Money? Much of it leaves the country to offshore tax havens, and most of it comes directly from ordinary shoppers who do pay their taxes.

@Makeup-rr4nt7 жыл бұрын
Samuel Westall, worked hard?? The clothes his labels sell are made in sweatshops who pay their employees less than 50p per hour...those workers are the ones doing the hard work, not him. Yet they get paid crumbs and he's become one of the richest men in the world...

OK - but observe his style: presence, attitude, etc. Now ask this question: what if he applied his abilities to, say, feed the hungry? How many people would rush to be around him, to praise him, etc. VERY FEW! Who he is, what he does excites people, makes them act in ways that benefit him in hopes they derive some benefit, etc. So, being "ugly" is not a weakness when you can move others with simple will power - & money, of course. If more people, for any purpose, learned this, they'd be happier.

He's not like that now. While workers in his shops were in turmoil, he went on holiday. He's disgusting. He should be sued into oblivion and even allowed to open a 2nd hand shop. In November 2020, it was announced that Philip Green's “zombie” empire of 400 stores and 13,000 employees, as described by one retail consultant before its collapse, had finally buckled under debt of over $1billion.

@Blu1IceBaby20 That is how the world works. Where do think the U2 company from Bono is located? It's a postal address in Amsterdam (tax reasons..) Companies like Boeing and Microsoft are on paper all located in foreign countries...Siemens was on paper located in a shed in a remote local rural area in Germany.

I thought his businesses went bankrupt with a pension debt? He was syphoning off assets and then putting the money in his wife's tax haven accounts. Then stores with 100s of years history were sold for a Pound to a serial bankrupt. Look up the book Danaged Goods by Oliver Shah.

Always makes me despair at how tax-evasion apologists always assume that anyone who dares contradict their view is a) unemployed, b) a benefits scrounger or c) a socialist. I believe in social democracy, i.e. capitalism with regulation. The government would never have needed to bail the banks out (incidentally I agree with you there) had Thatcher and co. not thrown all regulation out the window to satisfy a few of her Tory cronies who were interested in short term profits. Heard of Keynes?

@Sangrenegra9 The only difference between what I do and what Philip Green does, aside from the obvious disparity in profits, is that his tax evasion is perfectly legal! I find it hard to blame somebody for their actions when they are made possible by the state. Yes he should pay more tax but until measures are put in place to stop people in his position taking advantage of whatever loop holes are there then I don't think anything will change.

He should be on Desert Island discs, but don't let him off the island. then his and his family's wealth confiscated to pay out the pension fund he robbed. That 'loophole still hasn't been closed since Robert Maxwell robbed the Daily Mirror pension fund.He needs to be made an example of to encourage the other wealthy to behave, like they do with other evil doers.

@81miyagi - there's just a BIT of a difference between hiding profits from a car boot sale and hiding profits earned through several of the UK's best known high street stores. I don't hate all rich people. It's one thing to establish a successful business through hard work and graft - it's another to earn billions through both the labour and custom of UK taxpayers and then not pay what you owe in return for trading in the UK.
@Sangrenegra912 жыл бұрын
@bleepbleep1234 - Couple of points 1) Most of his profits are earned through sweatshop labour in Third-World countries and underpaid staff in the UK. Bit like saying southern plantation slave owners earned their money in cotton though 'hard work'. 2) Please forgive me for not being so gluttonous that I wouldn't be happy with an already lavish lifestyle, instead hoarding millions that I don't need and will in all likelihood never spend!
@vicosu12 жыл бұрын

1) The whole 'relative' argument is so piss-poor I'd laugh if it wasn't based in reality. In places like those where my mother comes from, they (a) don't know any better and (b) have no trade unions to protect them from abuse. Over here in the UK, we know the difference in value between £5.00 and £0.05, which is why we're far less likely to accept such a load of tripe. 2) Calling it 'theft' is incredibly childish and over-simplistic.
@MTCoblivsicas1234512 жыл бұрын
Yeah it aint right that he does tax avoid, however goverment makes tax so high that it kills competition in the market giving companies more power. He employees over 10,000 people though gives them food, shelter warmth hes already giving to the UK. You have to understand he could just leave the UK if tax did become too high he contributes to the UK economy. Dont hate the rich, they create tax jobs=tax=goverment spending. The goverment need deregualtion urgantly.

Consumer's dont decide who become's rich the rich decide who become's rich. Consumer's are give a premier league of retailer's most high street's and retail park's have the same shop's fast food outlet's etc the wealthy divide things up between them. It's a crock of shit to say that Phil Green is some barra boy who started of with nothing when it's a fact he started off with Mumy's money and was educated at a private boarding school.
@bleepbleep123412 жыл бұрын
Seriously, you lot are all a joke, stop complaining about how much tax he is paying, firstly, if any of you worked as hard as he to earn his millions, you would not want to hand half of it over to Gov, secondly, he still paying 100 times more than any of you!
