@@scottpenner5150, lol..they were not even the best AFL team of all time. The '69 KC CHIEFS were the best. The latter had a defense the JETS could only dream of. Six guys off of the DEFENSE, and three off the offense= 9 overall, are in the HALL OF FAME, and there should be many more: O-LINEMEN: JIM TYRER, AND ED BUDDE; D-ENDS AARON BROWN AND JERRY MAYS; LINEBACKER, JIM LYNCH, AND PUNTER JERREL WILSON, SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OR AT LEAST ON THE FINAL BALLOT. And, I am not a Chiefs fan, at all. THE JETS had PHILBIN, GRANTHAM, VERLON BIGGS, AND WHO ELSE ON D? None are in the HALL, and rightfully so.. On offense, other than NAMATH AND MAYNARD, THERE'S WINSTON HILL WHO just got in, but other than him, only DAVE HERMAN AND/OR JOHN ELLIOTT, really deserves to be in, or considered.. JIM TURNER kicked with both DENVER AND THE NY JETS and played in two SUPER BOWLS AND SCORED ALMOST 2K POINTS, and he and the others I mentioned should have at least been considered, especially TURNER at least as a finalist... Finally, consider with a HALL qb on the disabled list, or playing while injured, the CHIEFS won 11 of 14 games. If DAWSON had stayed healthy, arguably, they could have gone undefeated.. That is not a stretch..at all. And, to think that if the AFL had not expanded the playoffs to the first two teams in the division, only for 1969, the CHIEFS would not have made it in. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SHAME. Who were their backup qbs? JOURNEYMAN MIKE LIVINGSTON, and washed up clipboard holder TOM FLORES. While DAWSON was out, or in games he played severely hurt in, the CHIEFS were a breakeven team. In games where his injuries were non-existent, or where he was mending, they were undefeated. And, they beat the defending champs, the JETS, THE 12-2-0 RAIDERS..AND THE TEAM THAT HAD THE LONGEST WINNING STREAK(12) IN THE NFL IN 35 YEARS, THE 12-2-0 VIKES, IN SBOWL IV BY 16 POINTS. Their defense gave up 20 points in three playoff games. They won on the road on an incredibly windy day vs. the 10-4-0 JETS at SHEA, AND THE OAKLAND RAIDERS IN THE COLISEUM IN THE PLAYOFFS. How did the 13-1-0, '67 RAIDERS get to SB II? BEATING A 9-5-0 HOUSTON OILERS TEAM IN THE AFL TITLEGAME IN OAKLAND, BEFORE LOSING TO A 9-4-1 GBAY PACKER TEAM IN THE SBOWL BY NINETEEN POINTS. IN '68 THE JETS IN THAT SAME WEAK AFL EAST WITH NO competition, won the division, and beat a visiting RAIDERS team by five.. The COLTS played in a division with expansion ATLANTA, and in a conference with a weak Central Div. that was won by an 8-6-0 VIKES team(BALT BARELY BEAT THEM IN THE WEST FINAL). Essentially, 6 conference games of BALTY'S contests THAT SEASON were guaranteed wins. That inflated their record, and then when one adds their non-WESTERN CONF. NFL games, including a matchup with then - horrible PITT. from the EASTERN CONF...and there you go..RESULT? HIGHLY INFLATED RECORD..WITH SEVEN GUARANTEED WINS. THE JETS PLAYED the CHIEFS AND RAIDERS IN THE REGULAR SEASON IN '68, AND SPLIT, BEATING A YOUNGER KC BY ONE POINT IN KC, AND LOSING IN THE HEIDI BOWL BY 11 IN OAKLAND, BUT THEY ALSO PLAYED MIAMI TWICE, BUT PLAYED A COMPETITIVE CHARGERS TEAM TWICE and SWEPT THEM. THE JETS LOST TO THE 7-7-0 OILERS BY 19 IN THE REGULAR SEASON. The '69 JETS LOST BY 18 TO KC AND BY 13 TO OAKLAND, both games in SHEA STADIUM. THE '69 CHIEFS WERE BETTER THAN THE '68 OR '67 RAIDERS. THE '69 CHIEFS WERE THE GREATEST AFL TEAM OF ALL-TIME. YEP.. IN MY OPINION, THE GREATEST PRO TEAM OF ALL-TIME..WAS THE 14-2-0, '78 STEELERS. FIVE HALL GUYS ON OFFENSE= BRADSHAW, HARRIS, SWANN, STALLWORTH, AND WEBSTER..AND SIX ON DEFENSE= GREENE, WHITE, LAMBERT, HAM, BLOUNT, AND D.SHELL..=11 HALL GUYS IN ALL. ARGUABLY THE '89 49'ERS AND 1960'S PACKERS COULD BE IN THAT DISCUSSION AS WELL, OR THE '72 OR '73 DOLPHINS. YEP...

It was the Vegas LINE that made this game the greatest upset. The Packers were evenly matched to the Chiefs and Raiders, but we're the better 2nd half team. It was the relentlessness of Vince Lombardi, not the talent of the Green Bay Packers that won those championships...without Lombardi, Green Bay was nothing for nearly 25 years after Lombardi's retirement. Therefore, I don't agree with the placement of this game at #1, I think that New York beating an undefeated New England team earns them #1, in the close game, and 14 points underdogs, it is most unexpected.
@MHWeEatNation
@MHWeEatNation 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew633 Actually if you look at the history between the old afl and nfl, you can see why it is the #1 upset of all time.
@Matthew-qy7op
@Matthew-qy7op 7 жыл бұрын
Like I said, it was unexpected because Lombardi crushed the AFL twice in the previous games. The Vegas line responded with a 17 point line for super bowl III, and that's the only reason it would have been considered an upset. The truth is, the NFL & AFL were very close talent wise, but Lombardi had a knack of motivation that was unmatched by any coach in the history of the game. So when I say that I don't think it fits as a number one, here's why: The game wasn't close. 16-7 and Baltimore scored only in the closing minutes is not an upset of the century. The Giants going into their super bowl 14 point dogs and a 10-6 record to face a 16-0 Mighty New England Patriots 17-14, no that's the upset of the century.

Anyone who thinks that the Patriots suffered a bigger upset in Super Bowl 42 than what the Colts suffered in Super Bowl 3 is incorrect! First, in terms of scoring, the Patriots scored 14 points while the Colts scored only 7! Second, in terms of being favorites, the Patriots were 12 point favorites over the Giants whereas the Colts were 18 to 19 point favorites over the Jets! Third, in terms of final score, the final score of Super Bowl 3 was 16-7 while the score of Super Bowl 42 was 17-14! So I think it is safe to say that the Colts had the bigger upset! At least the Patriots showed up to play against the Giants, the Colts didn't even get on the board until there was only 3:19 left in Super Bowl 3!

@@seveglider8406 Agreed. Hence why I put the 1958 NFL Championship as #2. It was a signature game in the first season when the television deal went national, but Super Bowl III is what made pro football the game it is today. So, not only did Weeb Ewbank end up as the only coach to win league titles in each, but he was the winning coach in the two most important games in football history.

The most rigged game ever. NFL MVP Earl Morrall was 6-17 for 71 yards and 3 INTs. LMAO. The Jimmy Orr play where he is wide open but Morrall passes the ball to the other side of the field and gets picked off before the half is laughable. The Colts averaged 28 points per game that year but were shut out for the first 56+ minutes? Give me a break. Then with 2:26 left, trailing 16-7, the Colts face a 4th and 5 at the Jets 19. They need two scores and have all three timeouts plus the 2 min warning. What should you do in that situation? It's obvious. YOU KICK THE CHIP SHOT 27 YARD FIELD GOAL to make it a one possession game !! It's not even debatable. Take the 3 points, now it's 16-10 with 2:22 and with basically 4 timeouts you still have a good shot to win. What do the Colts do? They throw incomplete on 4th down. GAME OVER! It's ridiculous. Bubba Smith talked about this rigging in his later years. He made a great comment about how they needed the Jets to win to assure the merger of the NFL and AFL. "You're talking about millions of dollars versus billions". Always follow the money. Strangely enough, the head coach Don Shula and the QB Earl Morrall would team up just 4 years later on the Dolphins to have the only perfect season in the history of the NFL. I guess they got their just reward. And of course there's nothing suspicious about the death of then Baltimore Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom in 1979 in a drowning accident. Of course Joe Namath "guaranteed" the Jets would win. That's the way it was scripted. Nothing to see here. Go back to sleep.
