I wonder if anyone has ever built a car with one of these old engines in. It would be a proper beast as is the aircraft. That Rolls Royce engine is such a sweet sound. Absolutely fantastic.

I believe they have, in fact they started life in cars so if you think about it, probably the other way round but there is 27ltr V12 Merlin engine in a car today!

John Dodd’s “The Beast” (Merlin powered, not Griffon) was sold last year for £72k and now resides somewhere in Surrey. I believe Jay Leno also owns a Merlin powered car.

They bring a tia to a glass eye so much character the fast jets are nice but these have seen so much and the men who flew them especially when a flight of them go over you can just imagine what it was like in ww2 👏👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧👍

A Spitfire with a little bit more than just go faster Stripes. A big deal in my eyes. Without doubt we are the luckiest of people to see and hear this in all its glory. Like an choir of angels purring as one. I never realised this MK has a pressurised cabin and could operate so hgh, great info that Ted and Nikos. This sound should bring the pride out in all of us. Liking the paintjob as a side note. Heart warming footage. Nicely done ✔️ 👏 👍 👌 ❤

Brilliant footage. What a beautiful aircraft. And just as I've convinced myself that I can't justify paying all that money to fly in one, watching this has me rethinking again!! I was lucky enough to meet Richard Grace at Sywell Airshow and get a tour of his Spitfire. It has a very special history. If I do it, it will be in this aircaft.
