Many Old Jerry Friends will tell you the Grateful Dead was Jerry’s Job but his time with the Jerry Garcia Band was his Passion, playing old Standards, Motown Songs, Bob Dylan Songs, Etc.. in a relaxed atmosphere in small clubs and just jammin’

Almost 30 Dead & Jerry shows in my grey matter. Can't remember what day it is today, but I could probably peel off set lists from 75 lol. Garcia is simply beloved by some. Including me.

Love Me some Jerry Garcia Band, this particular lineup of Nicky Hopkins on Piano and Ron Tutt with Bassist John Kahn and Jerry Garcia on Guitar was a short lived Band who only played together less a year together but was a tight Band

'sounds like the smokin weed'. uh. yeah hahahahahahahaha. and you should be to before listening to this ! freakin awesome man. i love that jerry is never in a hurry to get where he is going, no matter who he is playing with, he manages to get this funky strut going. Amazing thing...besides 30+ years with the grateful dead jerry managed to get in his work with JGB, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Legion of Mary, David Grisman, Old and In the Way, Reconstruction..... the guy never stopped !!

I love this band, I saw them 30 times with Jerry and about a dozen without him!!! Jerry left the rights to the acronym JGB (Jerry Garcia Band) to his long time organist/keyboard player Melvin Seals, So since Jerry's passing Melvin has continued touring to this day! Melvin is a brilliant player and a super nice guy!!! Melvin is not playing on this track!👌✌😁

Vibe? Yeah, I think you caught one there 🌀 Never heard this one before, the only Dead spin off I've heard is Rat Dog, a CD I bought off a clearance table at a music store (remember those?) Elevator music I would normally perceive as derogatory terminology, but I get that you mean with this piece it's a no think stress reliever. If it were a total instrumental it would be more than fine by me, to be honest.
@barbarascotto3873
@barbarascotto3873 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call The Jerry Garcia band a "spin off" of the Dead. They were more Jerry's side project. And goddamn I miss Ratdog. We caught the last two shows they ever did at Red Rocks and The Ogden Theater in Denver on July 11th and 12th 2014.

One thing about JGB is Jerry never missed a beat and was all smiles with Melvin or Saunders. Jerry and Saunders had some EPIC jams in the early 70's. This album has one of best passionate jams of Sitting in Limbo you will hear in my opinion. Check it out.

A very early edition of The Jerry Garcia Band, John Kahn on Bass is the only long term member present here. Nicky Hopkins is a rare treat on the Piano, as he was usually working with The Rolling Stones, and Ron Tutt was a great session drummer for many, many folks. Later Jerry would have female backing vocalists, Jackie LeBranch and Gloria Jones, and Melvin Seals on the Hammond B3 organ, with different drummers over time. Way different from his material with the Grateful Dead.

So glad to see you digging Jerry, whether in the context of The Grateful Dead, or his side projects! Jerry was a PLAYER! The great Nicky Hopkins on keys in this iteration of the JGB. If you really want to hear Nicky stretch out, try the instrumental "Edward The Mad Shirt Grinder" by Quicksilver Messenger Service. Another Bay Area band that was in The Dead's early circle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXnFcmp6a5WLoas
