The stars system is also in the chinese version of pvz1 as well. Some of the levels I think also have an objective that you have to save a "baby starfruit" from an imp with a seagull.

@Meiyu1 Luckily, he can be slowed down by snow pea or winter Melon, so that would buy some time to stall. As for damaging it, potato mine and squash can damage him. If only if it's triggered by other zombies. Unless you had the version with the heroes. They can actually instantly defeat him if they level up. (Source: the pvz wiki)

I have too many thoughts on this to write a proper comment so I'm just going to do dotpoints The Good: - Even though I'm pretty sure it's traced, I really like how they updated the artstyle and how it looks in this resolution. Its still very faithful to the original and it's vibrant colours, but the little tweaks and lighting on the plants goes a long way. - Speed up button is great, though I'd like 1.5 and 1.25 to be available. - Objectives are a good concept, but they need better execution and variation. It'd be cool if they were inherently tied to new plants and zombies as you encounter them (i.e. take down a conehead with only puffshrooms, force x diggers out of the ground with magnet, drown a balloon zombie, defeat screendoors/newspapers without destroying their held object, remove all graves, etc etc etc). - Bringing back plants from other versions is cool, I just think they should be tied more to gameplay and progression instead of relying on outside sources to give you a code - Rewarding achievements is great and actually encourages going for them! - Unlocking bonus gamemodes earlier is great for allowing the player to take a break when they want instead of having to grind to halfway through the game The Bad: - There are way too many popups and flashy bits. I know it's generally more common in China but having a popup for every zombie breaks pacing, defeats the purpose of the almanac and doesn't let the player figure stuff out on their own. Its way too hand holding. The menu is very messy as well... - General lack of attention to detail. I know a lot of this is an engine thing but OG Popcap made their own engine back in the 2000's that is performing better than this, how does a remake in 2024 perform significantly worse? Some of the art and animations are also just weird, super chompers animation is way too big and a bit wonky, daves speech audio doesn't have flairs or much variation (screams/BECAUSE IM CRAZY), the wintermelon seed packet is also missing the whole pult behind it and armor just disappears instead of falling off. It feels very fangame remake-esc instead of official. - Powerups are atrocious. At least in PVZ2 they had the decency to not overtune them, here they just have a nuke and a way to negate the entire early game economy. - The dialogue is a mess with consistency - The speed up button flashbang - Yadayada monetization stuff they shoved in (Slot machine and daily login and codes and stuff)
