This is hands down the best invisible zipper tutorial I’ve ever seen. I have it book marked and come back to watch it anytime I’m putting in an invisible zip. I also have anyone I’m teaching to do an invisible zip watch it as well. What a fantastic resource. Thank you, Lucy!!

This tutorial is BRILLIANT!!! I’ve just (re)started sewing as a returning novice and have just successfully sewn an invisible zip onto my skirt with no tears - this takes all the anxiety out of it and I can actually say I had fun doing this. Many, many thanks! Definitely THE go-to reference video for future zip projects!

This is Kenneth D. King's technique. The unaddressed part for me is where to place top of zipper tape, inside the seam allowance or at the seam allowance? Would love to see the next steps of adding a facing and finishing the neckline!
@foxo4992
@foxo4992 3 жыл бұрын
I guess you’d place the zipper tape so that the end of the zip sits where it would on the finished garment. The zipper tape itself could go beyond the seam allowance a bit, I suppose, as long as the zipper teeth themselves end somewhere just inside the seam allowance. You’d want the zip to be able to go as high as possible, but end just before the seam allowance. Apologies if I’m totally misunderstanding what you’re getting at here!

Kenneth King did not invent this. I learned it years before he made his video for Threads magazine. But he's so fussy about pinning, basting, etc. It would drive me crazy to be that fussy with putting in an invisible zipper.

Hi , just wanted to suggest that when using this method you protect the zipper pull by wrapping with masking tape. I completely damaged mine when using this method as I couldn’t get hold of the zipper pull easily with the tweezers and had to replace the zip.

Love this video because this is pretty much how I learned to do invisible zippers in 7th grade home ec almost 50 years ago, when invisible zippers were still quite new. We didn't use tape, though, just pins and the basting. And I know we didn't use hemostats to pull the slider down. I don't remember what we did use, but nowadays I use hemostats. They come in handy for so many things! I don't know why more people don't use this method for invisible zippers--to me it's by far the nicest and easiest method.

I must tell you, I spent the past few days trying to find an invisible zipper video. I came across many many people who used the same technique as you, but their explanation was confusing. I even saw the technique from the person where your mother-in-law got it from and I was still confused. Thank you so very much. I look forward to practicing on my scrap fabric first, as if it was the real thing, before I do the real thing 😊....thank you again so much!

Hi flower, i don't know what i like most, but what i do know is i wish i had found this video a few months ago, while making a dress with a concealed zip for my baby granddaughter. I don't know if being able to take the zip right down and out of the way is the game changer, or the ironing of the zip to unroll the edges or the magic double sided sewing tape gets the prize, but you sure do for me just being able to finally be able to insert one of these zips with out the hassle. I sewed the zip to all layers because i was having it go between the underneath dress and outer dress and i tacked it in place not with nice big stitches like any sensible person would do, but with small stitches so that it wouldn't move. THREE times i hand sewed these stitches and machined them before getting it right to my satisfaction. Thank you for sorting out a number of hurdles to be able to finish off something to a handmade top quality look rather than a homemade flea market look. Crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil Village, Scotland

Hi Lucy, I'm an absolute beginner to sewing and simply loving the world of creativity using fabric. I have subscribed and am watching your videos, but more than this, am learning an incredible amount from someone who is very good at teaching their profession! This is a special gift, so THANK YOU. I had to laugh when watching this video, as (being an animal biologist with a link to veterinary medicine) I happen to already have a couple of haemostats in my sewing table, as they are so useful for many tasks (eg. pulling through that last bit of elastic! etc). Keep up the inspiring tutorials. Phil
