@@idk-nz7xg SELECT+START at the same time pressed twice should exit the game. The first time you do, you should see a small pop-up in the lower-left stating to do it again to exit the game. If you've re-mapped the buttons yourself, whatever you used for the HotKey + Start.

Just recently bought a console x pro for 60 bucks that should be here in 2 days via amazon. Been tinkering with rom em handhelds lately like the anberic 35xx which I recommend. Great gameboy styled handheld but like this, always backup data and burn to a fresh micro sd since the cheap ones that come with these are prone to fail quickly, be buggy. Out of all the vids, for this console yours is the most 'straight to the point' and informative so thank you sir. Looking forward to checking out this lil beast.

It's possible to remap the buttons it just varies from emulator to emulator. The options are with in the menus and you don't need a keyboard. It's also possible to swap your action and back buttons around so that X is enter and B is back.

I picked up the Pro model last week and everything works as it should, all games start and fps is very good for all of the "tough" consoles and roms like Mame, Dreamcast, 64 etc. - leagues better than my friends standard model which he received three weeks ago. I'm actually surprised because I figured the small difference between the two wouldn't make that much difference in performance. Maybe it's just set up better by KinHank as they work out the many bugs that have originally plagued the console.

I just ordered this yesterday with the 128GB microSD and wireless controllers. I hope the microSD card is fairly full although I don't really think I'll find most of the 40,000 games interesting. I'm more interested in the 16-bit games on the Sega Mega Drive and SNES, and maybe some PS1 titles. I'll be looking to try and play Castlevania Symphony of the Night on this. I hope it'll play well.

I have the one with around 55k games. I love it. N64 sometimes bugs out and closes the emulator, just make sure you use save state a lot. PS1 it happens, but very rarely.

@@devilwarr1or One other thing it could be, your TV/Monitor. Check the settings to see if there is a "Game Mode" on the TV. If there is, turn it ON. Some TV's will demonstrate a lag if this option isn't enabled. I know I've seen that issue with Raspberry Pi's on one of my TV's (a Visio) for this reason. That may help.

@@WagnersTechTalk well I have an official mini nes and I played super Mario bros, donkey kong and legend of zelda on that on the same TV and there was zero lag between button presses and the input occurring on screen. Played the same games on the console x pro, same TV and there's a delay. I tried an official ps3 controller with the console x pro and had the same lag. I'm wondering if there is a setting on the console x pro I could try to see if it helps.

Amazing review, I just got mine yesterday and I’m enjoying it. Also, you mentioned that we can add roms to the MicroSD, I assume since it supports the PSP it would be able to support PS2 as well? (And maybe GameCube) if I add it to the card? It uses RetroArch, which supports both of those from what I remember, so I’d love to play some older games I had as a kid that I never finished since I never owned a MemoryCard.

Thank you Jose, great to hear you're enjoying it! The hardware is not powerful enough to support PS2/GameCube. As shown in this video, some N64/Dreamcast/PSP games will struggle. However, for consoles that are listed you can add some additional games to it. You may want to make a backup and restore to a larger capacity microSD card before doing so. Depending on the model you received, there isn't much room available on the card. Hope this helps!

@@WagnersTechTalk by the way, would deleting ROMs (Atari and stuff) do any damage, other than of course making the games associated with that console not playable (even though I will delete those as well)? I want to add some games but there’s not much space. I apologize with so many questions, you’re the only person who’s actually responsive and knows what they are doing, the other channels that are guides don’t necessarily reply to anyone anymore and there’s not much coverage on the console.

No problem with the questions, I like trying to help. I wouldn't delete any folder structures, but if you want to remove the games (rom files) themselves that should be fine. I wouldn't delete anything in the /bios sub folder, leave those as-is. I would recommend making a backup of the microSD card (mentioned in the video). Just incase you delete something and then change your mind you'll at least have a backup. Also, the microSD cards that sometimes ship with these devices are pretty cheap. Using your own for making changes is best -IMO.

Hi, I tried to use my own SD card (256gb). I flashed it with a "super console x beifen img file" I saw online, and then copied the roms. When I use it on the console, however, it remains stuck on the "powered by andorid" screen. The SD it came with still works (but I can't add anymore games). Could you help a brother out? Thanks

I would just make a backup copy of the SD card that came with it, as shown here (use Win32 Disk Imager, create the .img file then Write that Image to the new microSD card). You'll then want to use Disk Genius to expand the partition to use all the available space, assuming the new card is larger than the original microSD. Hope that helps!

I have a question. I bought mine on Ebay it's the X pro, I keep having trouble with most all games on Nintendo 64. Now the seller has sent me a replacement to see if it was the console that was defective but unfortunately it keeps doing the same thing, it keeps shuddering, glitching, and sometimes it freezes. Do you have another USB controller you can plug in and try (i.e. xbox 360 USB, PS, etc.)? If so, see if they work. If not, I'd return it.

Everything you should need is in the box to connect it to your TV. Make sure you have the microSD card plugged into the slot (mine popped out and was sitting at the bottom of the box), plug in the HDMI cable to an input port on your TV, your controller(s) and power it on. You should see the the boot video at this point. If you don't, could be a defective unit. If it doesn't boot, unplug the 4 port hub and power on (a more recent model I ordered, the stick, had a short in the hub). If none of the above helps, likely a replacement will be needed.

I'm guessing the microSD card is corrupted (I don't have the pro version of the SCX). First, I'd make a backup copy of the corrupt microSD and try to backup the contents (file copy to another drive/NAS). I'd contact the seller and try to get a replacement. Here's an old thread that has the same error, but the fix (in this case) would wipe out the entire contents of the card losing all games, bios, etc. unless you back it up first: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/7uwr5p/it_looks_like_your_systems_configuration_file_has/ . Hopefully you got it from somewhere that will be able to replace it with a microSD that is not defective/corrupt.

I just picked up one of these and I’m struggling on a couple things. 1) I’ll get into a game and can’t get out. There’s no “exit” game button. This review said to click R3. But nothing seems to work. On one Nintendo game, holding start and select gave me an option to exit. But that was just one game. Also… is there an “in game” save option? So if I’m playing a game and need to take a break- can I save my current progress where I’m at and rejoin later??

You'll typically just press SELECT+START at the same time to exit a game. You can press SELECT+X (or Y) to save/load your game states as well if I recall correctly.

I get the intro screen as well, during filming I sometimes cut out segments that aren't relevant to the main part of the review and the Ken Hanks intro was one of them. Put the microSD card back in the unit and allow the video to finish and you should see Emulation Station and be able to follow-along in this video.

I've had mine a week now so if you buy one be prepared to use a different gamepad, because both of the ones supplied did not work and also buy a new power supply because the supplied one is possibly dangerous

Curious, what issue are you having with the power supply? The game controllers aren't the best quality, but they should work as long as you plug in the dongle into one of the available USB ports. If they aren't, I'd recommend returning the unit and getting what you paid for.

Make sure you power the unit off completely. Then, insert the microSD card, connect the HDMI and power on. If it doesn't boot then, you may have a bad microSD card image. If you have a backup (as shown in this video), you can restore the image, preferably to a new card. If you don't have a backup, contact the seller for a replacement. Hope this helps!

As mentioned in this video, some games will play while others may not (or not well). One thing you could try is to search for a different version of the ROM and copy it to the microSD and see if that works.

You'll want to contact the seller, if it's within a returnable time frame you should be able to get a replacement. It's basically defective at this point. If you get a replacement, definitely make a backup image of the new microSD. I'm glad I did, had no idea that would happen until I was testing for this video.

This is a very odd question but do you know what folder the box art/screenshots for the games for each of the systems is in? I'm pretty sure I powered mine off correctly but the box art and info for all of the games in Mame and another system disappeared. I changed the view of the game list to detailed but still no info is shown for each game. I just hope it all didn't get deleted.

Great, it will be much easier. If you need info. on how to do that, here's a more detailed guide (created after this video): wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive It's just easier to restore to a new card, the one that is in there is likely corrupted and not worth the time/effort.

something werid bout loading my save state. i can save, and if i play the game within the next few days it works, but if i go back to play a game i havent for awhile it wont load state, when i do it it just stays at start of game. does save state only last for certian amount of days

No the save state should remember the state. Are you using the microSD that came with the unit or a backup copy? Often times these things come with cheap microSD cards and I typically back them up and restore them to a new card that is more reliable.

As long as there is a button you can map for the HotKey (SELECT), should work. If there is no extra button you can use then no.

had to get a replacement, and it works fine expect ofr one thing. one controller seems very touchy. example i was pressing down to go thru list of games on one emulator and after pressing down a few times it jumps to the next emulaotor io the right without hitting right. also when i was typing in wifi key it was very tocuhing jumping to another letter. i switched to the other controller with no problem, only effecting one. i do want to use it for a 2nd player when friend comes over. is there an easy fix?

Glad you got the replacement and are up and running -mostly. The only other fix is to use another controller, you'd have to map the buttons for it. Perhaps the mfgr. can send a replacement, not sure.

Why do you need to use win32 disk manager to make a copy? Can we just copy paste the contents to a hard drive? Depending on your answer, whats the best way to ‘reimage’ the sd card if it corrupts? Many thanks

Win32 Disk Imager creates an exact image of the microSD card, including the boot partition as well as the games partition. You can certainly make a backup copy of lets say the games/bios files to your computer/NAS, but if you want to restore the microSD back to a working image - this is good way to do it IMO. Use the same tool, Win32Disk Imager, to write the image file (from your backed up image) to a NEW microSD (keep your original safe). Hope this clarifies!

Yes you can. I'd avoid making any changes to the display settings and would recommend making a backup of the SD card, as a precaution.

Good review. I’ve had mine for about 5 months now. I agree w you, don’t buy it for the MAME game emulation. I’ve ripped my hair out getting buttons configured and been disappointed game over game that doesn’t work. I have all new controllers now because the ones they came with a terrible which people who have it say all the time. It’s good for many of the other platforms. I’ve found my PSP games only play if there’s one controller plugged in. Won’t play with a second plugged in. Strange. I’d only recommend if you want to take the time to get to know the system and have the fair warning that many of the mame games don’t work.

Mame roms are made for mame not other emulators, also could be you were using older mame roms on a newer version of mame or visa versa. mame over all works good for me just like psx1and other pretty solid emulators

However, give Moon Patrol (in Arcade) a try on the SCX and you'll find that the device is not able to display properly (at least, that is the case on my unit). However, I have noticed that on a Super Console X Stick, instead of a bad display it just fails to launch the game.

@@WagnersTechTalk Been into pc and consoles for decades and seen these cheap emu systems now and then. USB 1 came out 2000 this is really old weak limited hardware and software. And I have Moon Patrol and few terra byes of roms spanning a slew of platforms with emus that allow up scaling far beyond what this can do. Not trying to be rude but a 5 year old cell phone can do a better job than this and puzzled why so many channels review this and give it a nod. A raspberry pi 4 is inexpensive and would eat this alive, as for emulators, setups and configs there are a slew of vids on that make it easy. Again not trying to be rude but I respectfully disagree, this is weak, cheap and seriously outdated and why it only run a few specific ps1 and dreamcast games. If any one thinks they can get more roms and expand their collect it will be a rude surprise.

Hi Wolfgang, you're actually preaching to the choir regarding a Pi4 (I've been playing MAME since ~1994, PC only back then). Please see this: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming which is packed full of RetroGaming on a Raspberry Pi 4 (and of course videos/how-to info.) Infact, even in this video (at the end here 12:48 ) I still recommend a Pi4 over this device for those that prefer to get their hands a little dirty copying roms/bios, etc. However, there are more folks that just want to buy something that can play a lot of games and not worry about those kind of things. So, I don't disagree with you on the Pi 4 route but there is an allure for those that want to jump into emulation without much effort. I was simply answering a question regarding how MAME plays on this device and providing honest feedback about it. I greatly appreciate your comment and honest feedback. Hope this clarifies.

you can always flash lakka onto the sd card for your pi, it's the same emulators and psp works great on it, dsi output works better than hdmi for the psp emulator Edit: psp works great on raspberry pi 4 + you can easily overclock your raspberry pi to 2ghz instead of the 1.5 (you will loose warranty when overclocking of course) also, should look up overclocking and see what people suggest and what you feel like you wanna go with, but i feel the sweet spot for a cooled raspberry pi is as follows: cpu 2000 gpu 600 and overvoltage 6

Hello, there should be a small USB dongle included in your package. Plug it into an available USB port (or the hub connected to the console) and the controllers should sync up on their own.

If the red light flashes it usually means the batteries are low or the Controllers didn't connect. Did you try both Controllers because i noticed the two Controllers are sometimes switched when i started the console?

I bought this and the only problem is that the controller settings is complicated to configure and hard to reset the whole system without using a computer to reload it to the SD drive without erasing it. Not worth buying it.

When I attempt to play any game, I’m receiving constant pop ups from what is appears to be retro arch. When I press most buttons the pop ups that appear say “state slot” and a number. Additionally, the volume graphic will appear and go up and down and the game will also reset on me. My controller configurations must be screwed up in retro arch? I’m confused and it’s making the console unplayable. Please help!!

Did you happen to try to remap the buttons and something got hosed? If not, unplug the dongle and use the other dongle + remote and see if that helps.

There are only two options that I see, if you made an image backup copy of your SCX as shown in this video, you can restore it to a new card and everything will be mapped as it shipped from the factory. If you haven't, you'll have to re-map them. Problem is, if you don't know what button was mapped to what, could be a bit challenging to figure it out. May want to search for RetroArch, emuelec, button mapping, etc. I don't have any guides or videos that cover this at present.

Hi Josef, if there was no card then yes you were. It could have popped out and sitting somewhere in the box. If not, contact the seller or get a replacement. Without the microSD you won't be able to use it.

Could be corruption with your microSD card. Have you made a backup and restored it to a different card by chance? Often times the cards that ship with these type of devices aren't good quality.

In which file format is the micro SD card formatted FAT32 or NTFS. How many GB has your SCX Version. How many GB on the SD-Card in total is already occupied by the operating system, emulators, etc. and ROMs, because the real size of micro SD cards from different manufacturers is different. If you also want to pack Roms, you can definitely take a bigger card straight away. Which cards of which manufacturer are recognized by the SCX?Thanks.

Please see 03:56 where you'll find the details you're asking. In terms of which cards, most any reputable brand should work (Samsung, SanDisk, etc.). I copied the image to a Samsung 256GB microSD card.

It's typically the SELECT button to insert a coin (hot key) and START to start the game . SELECT+START at the same time twice to exit. Hope that helps!

Yes, the segment where I show the green screen was after I was trying out different resolutions and got stuck with the green screen. At that point, I just re-flashed the image to a different microSD I had available. Also thought about adding some additional games at some point and went with a larger capacity microSD. I do highly recommend making a backup image before powering on the unit.

@@RodnySeastarer4921 Win32 Disk Imager will also let you write. You'll just select the backup file (.img) and select the correct drive destination and click write. That's it, the same thing that you saw in this video, just click the write instead of read. Hope this clarifies.

For the hot key, just press the SELECT button (not select + start when defining the hotkey). When you press SELECT+[START] in game, it will exit. Think of the HotKey like the Shift key on your keyboard, you press that + a letter to upper-case it. When you press SELECT + [some key] it's doing basically the same type of thing.

Reading the contents for the backup wouldn't cause it to crash. Likely something that changed before/during shutdown. Does it no longer boot?

I don't have the device nearby, can't recall exactly. I think it was SELECT+L1 or R1 to save the game states. SELECT+X (or Y) will enter RetroArch if any changes are needed there.

No problems with sound here. The video here was captured from an HDML Cloner Box Pro (look at my studio here: wagnerstechtalk.com/studio with links). I would first try a different HDMI cable, I've had cases recording on other devices where the audio line in the cable wasn't working, swapped the cable and it was fine. Otherwise, try direct (bypass the capture card) and see if you hear any audio.

I like the system a lot, but many Arcade games don't work. It's says "emuelec error". On my PC the roms work fine, but not on the console x. Spider-Man The Videogame for example. I hope there will be a solution soon

For the games that don't play, you'll find subfolders on the microSD (make a backup copy as mentioned first). Download the game file using your favorite search engine and replace the file on the microSD to see if it's a bad rom. That's one thing that you can try.

In EmulationStation, you can go into the menu to swap A/B buttons. I show that in this video. If the actual button is defective, try the 2nd controller.

The Super Console X is running EmuElec which uses the Emulation Station front-end to launch RetroArch. So, should be able to use any cheats.

Some games, like the few shown in this video play fairly well. Others, may not. It really depends on the game. Some tweaks such as getting into RetroArch (SELECT+X or Y) and trying a different core with the game. You may find that some games aren't playable. It will be hit or miss. The CPU used in the SCX isn't super powerful, but good enough for many systems.

Check that there is a microSD card installed in the front of the machine. If not, return it and get a new one. If there is, remove the label and eject and re-install it. Of course, make sure the power is turned off before doing so. Let me know what happens please.

There wasn't much to be said when it comes to the sound. Have you tried a different HDMI cable? I've had similar issues in the past with other kits that had a defective HDMI cable, could be your problem there. Don't know what emulator you're talking about, but tiny screens are likely Game Boy games. In that case, do a web search on "[console name] retroarch screen configuration emuelec" and you should be able to find some info. Before making any changes, I highly recommend creating a backup image of the microSD card. If anything gets hosed up, you can put it back ( here's how: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive )

Just a couple things I can think of, make sure you have the right HDMI input selected on your TV and that it supports 1080p . If that doesn't help, try a different HDMI cable, I've had a few faulty ones over the years (not with this unit, but others). Make sure the device is getting power and has the microSD card inserted. If none of that helps, may need to contact the seller and get a replacement.
