First of all, I love this series on ADAS!!! I feel like the limited number of roads should be a bigger deduction. I did a 12K mile cross-country road trip in my Tesla M3 with FSD in April-June 2022. I was in FSD probably close to 98% of the time and that includes single lane backroads. I was very impressed at all the situations it did handle correctly. There are several annoying behaviors that some have been corrected in later releases. But I do share some of Kyle's complaints like wanting to take exits (I think it really wants to keep to the right), torque required on wheel (Kyle did teach me something about using the buttons on wheel), and in general some quirky and unexpected behavior. The primary reason I keep the Tesla is FSD, if another car maker made a luxury car/SUV with FSD capability I would strongly consider switching, as I do not care for Tesla ride experience (loud, bumpy, uncomfortable seating, poor build quality). EV is not a must have but ADAS is!! I would also be interested in how these systems perform when pulling a trailer, as I'm thinking of pulling a small camper on my next cross country road trip. Has anyone pulled a trailer behind M3 with FSD...I would be interested in your experience.

Nice job on the video. I can see the reason for your enthusiasm with the system. However, you stated that the rationale for using this stretch of road is that “…if it can do well on this road, it will do well anywhere.” Well… call me a nitpicker, but both of you stated, repeatedly, that this system will NOT work “anywhere” (at least, as I understand that word). This system only works on pre-mapped roads, and even then, it can/will balk (start of your test, twice, and the twisties). An open system like Auto Pilot is relying on constant real time input, that can be used pretty much “anywhere.” And yes I drove I-70 across Kansas and Colorado into Utah on the return portion of my Sacramento > Louisville > Sacramento 5,500 mile road trip last month. With Auto Pilot. I found AP to be an excellent system that worked through that entire trip, even on two lane state routes and back country roads. It’s not so picky…

Found the Tesla shareholder. First off, the test is for highways. It may be possible to use Autopilot on other roads, but that isn't what's being tested here... No system is a true driverless system yet. They're all advanced drivers assistants, ADAS. This system happens to rely on mapped roads, and it isn't the only system Out of Spec's tested that requires mapped routes; Blue cruise does as well. Supercruise's current highway coverage for the system is already pretty extensive, covering most of the major US highways already, including the major trans-continental highways. Earlier this month, GM released information and maps for where they're expanding coverage to, and it's a huge increase in mapped highways. Just about every major highway in the country. While it certainly won't work on 100% of highways, this review shows that it works incredibly for the routes it's enabled. The point of these systems is to assist the driver and improve their highway driving experience, while the driver still pays full attention to the road and is ready to take over at a moment's notice. If the driver has to take the reins once in awhile, then how big of a deal is that actually? Were you planning to take a nap, read a book, play a game, stare at your phone, etc? While Autopilot's flexibility of being capable of being used just about anywhere is nice... I fail to see the importance of it. Why would you want autopilot driving you on back country roads when you have to pay attention anyways? For the novelty? Until Tesla's system is fully autonomus, a lot of Tesla's achievements off the highway are nothing more than useless novelties and gimmicks... The only real issue I saw in this test was where and how it gave up control around that curve.. no system really does a great job of relinquishing control, but GM could do better, and likely will do better with future improvements just like every other company. That said, the big improvement with Supercruise over other systems, beyond it's smooth driving characteristics, is the hands-free capability of the system. If you're driving hundreds or thousands of miles, then at those times when input shouldn't be necessary so long as you're paying attention to the road, do you want to look forward at the road and keep wiggling the wheel every 45 seconds, or do you simply want to look forward at the road?
@ezpoppy552 жыл бұрын
@@updlate4756 My point was simply that Kyle stated (essentially) that if a system could navigate that stretch of I-70, it could navigate “any where.” Now, no one put a gun to his head to make that claim. And he did not have to state that a successful run of that road would translate to universal application. Certainly, I had no part in any of this. All I’m pointing out is that, given the goals, objectives, and claims made, the system failed. It would not engage (twice), it disengaged in a section of road that had some curves to it. I don’t see how anyone can claim the system successfully managed that test. How many people are going to restart their trip simply to get the system to recognize it was in fact on a pre-mapped interstate? You…? Myself, I have no problem keeping my eyes on the road (which this system requires) and my hands upon the wheel (a la Tesla). I haven’t seen any system that convinces me autonomous driving is ready for prime time. That being said, I found AP to be a system that allowed me to arrive at my destination much more relaxed, and it operated in a predictable and reliable manner. Including that stretch of I-70 Kyle was driving on.

Systems works as shown in the test and was surprised where it you actually work in some construction zone. I actually prefer the position it only works on mapped roads as it brings more safety to the situation. Trying turning super Cruise on ins heavy traffic and you will feel uncomfortable. I agree GM has done something right with the smoothness of the lane changes. Also, I have noticed that the vehicle actually will accelerate when it has move to a pass lane and it senses traffic coming up from behind. Once it passes it will slow back down. Most impressive maneuver I have seen was when the vehicle sensed another vehicle entering a ramp and the Truck performed a lane change to the left lane to make room for it, was not expecting that to work. I laughed when you locked out Super Cruise, because it can be frustrating when that happens (turn the car off to reset it). Oh and those massage seats are super nice too.

This is a subscription based, on rails mapped, gps guided self driving system. HDA on the other hand just works everywhere. I don’t need to engage cruise to have it help steer or maintain the line. OR, I can just use cruise and do things the old fashioned way. On top of that, the Hyundai system also has active speed limit assist where you can set it so it will actively keep you from you going over a certain speed and let’s not forget auto hold for stop and go. Plus most of the HDA base system is standard on Hyundai vehicle without a subscription and HDA is just a trim upgrade. The cutting out without warning sucks but it isn’t a self driving system. Can’t overlook the comparison is to autopilot and not FSD. Autopilot can cruise on any highway or throughway and isn’t limited to a mapped road. Cruise is nice though compared to the cruise control of the early years 1990s & 2000s.

I enjoyed your video. However with all your talk about Super Cruise, you failed to mention that it is only provided FREE for tthe 1st 3 years of car ownership. After 3 years it reverts to a subscription service (Fee payment required) - Does TESLA and FORD have this the same requirement for payment to use the driver assist features in the TESLA and FORD vehicles? Cadillac does - I looked it up on their website after your mention of their Super cruise.

Thought I'd see where Super Cruise is today by watching this test drive. Except for slightly wet pavement, this is a walk in the park test drive. Nothing challenging here: very well marked lanes, almost no traffic, no merging traffic, gentle turns, no interchanges, no speed limit changes, no construction zones, no emergency vehicles, no road debris. There is no way I would rate this better than Navigate of Autopilot which works well in much, much more challenging situations.
@gregb73532 жыл бұрын
The other big downside other than mapped roads is how strict it is for construction zones. If you want to use it for a commute via Interstates in a big metro, ALL roads are permanently considered under construction. This is true even if it's just adding a frontage road or whatever. It's useless for commutes.

Does the steering wheel flash those red lights the whole time? That seems EXTREMELY annoying!

No, it's just a difference in update rates that appears in the video, LED light versus video camera recording rate.

Kyle’s armrest use while driving seems unsafe. The standard I was taught relied on having full range of motion, unencumbered, for your arms. Kyle seems locked-in as if in a child seat. Is it just me?
@CharlieLiuPhotography2 жыл бұрын
How does that even make sense? If you're resting your arms on the armrest, you're essentially reducing full range of motion for your arms because... you're resting it.

It's amazing how willing young people are to put their life in the hands of a computer chip. If the vehicle suddenly jerked to the right while passing a semi, or over a cliff, you wouldn't even live long enough to see the error message.

kind of stupid for giving point before doing anything xD. should be only giving point for what the system actually does. (give kudos for anything extra maybe?)

Trucks are the worst. 1/3 bought a car too big for their abilities, 1/3 has some kind of road rage problem and the last 3rd actually needs it for work and drives normal and knows it's size. Don't buy cars you can't drive.

This is an atrocious review, my first dislike on video from this channel. Having done 30k miles on Tesla AP on highways, including roads like this and worse, objectively speaking Super Cruise is essentially crapshoot. Not even counting the intra-city driving the Tesla AP can do, even without FSD.
@georgesackinger20022 жыл бұрын
I know you were testing the super cruise, but I am disappointed in your selection of a dinosaur fluid vehicle. There is no correlation between this gas car and any modern EV. Weight distribution, motor (engine) performance, handling and even interior styling will all be different than an EV. Kyle, hope you don't get sucked into the gasoline (diesel) world. Our earth needs to move forward not backward. I am surprised that your channel promoted a GM's gas car. Big thumbs down.

I mean really dude? Ev are terrible for the environment. Not to mention when the battery goes to crap in 7 years you can throw the car away.
@georgesackinger2002 Жыл бұрын
@@albsure4832 Batteries don’t wear out like that. They degrade over time. In 7 years, the battery may only have 80% of its original range. Example: My Tesla Y is at 40k and only 300 miles range instead of 326 when it was new. If the car wears out earlier the batteries can and usually are sold for other purposes. There are also 2 companies that recycle old batteries. They don’t normally reach a land fill.

following up to second the request to see the Bolt EUV do this---it has the older system but for the money it seems like the value alone makes it a clear winner.
