A few answers to common questions regarding this chapter: (Obviously spoilers!) - What the Hell was that Nagito guy doing? -- Nagito believes himself to be 'human trash', unworthy to be part of a group of people so talented and special. His initial plan was to willingly let himself get killed for the group, because he felt his death was a small price to pay to help the others. His plan is thwarted by the victim, and someone else dies in his place. - Why is Byakuya suddenly fat? -- Because it's not Byakuya. Not really.

@@afailedyoutubechannel8214 because Spoiler Teruteru had found Nagito out during his preparations and felt that it was his duty to prevent his plan by eliminating him firsthand, before he could do something bad. Nagito openly told him, that even if Teruteru could spread the word, it wouldn't change a thing and he, Nagito, will keep his plan going to the very end and start the killings. So, basically, Teruteru just tried, dumbly, to prevent the deed by killing the killer, not even thinking that this plan could let to everyone's demise.

The thing is Teruteru knew that Nagito was gonna kill someone. If he knew, then all he had to do was tell the others and they would've stopped Nagito easily. But he didn't. Him saying that he was trying to save the others was a poor excuse.

Now this was a better improvement over DR1's first case. By that I mean, we got closure from the killer's motive why they killed the victim. In this case, (Pun not intended) Teruteru killed Byakuya but that wasn't the intended target, Nagito was the real target. Regardless of who Teruteru was supposed to kill, the reason was the same he wanted to see his mother whom he wanted to make sure she was okay. Plus I kind of liked Teruteru for as much as a perv as he was, he was still a character I liked to some degree. I felt actually bad for him and was more pissed off at Nagito's luck saving which would be only the start of the bullshit luck... Still a better murder case then DR1 as the killer of DR1 was whining like a bitch and personally that was the final straw to where I could care less about him. Compared to DR2's first killer who accepted death after understanding that he was going to die one way or another.... Teruteru did deserve closure on what happened to his mother though...

I just wish that DR1 trial had more of a focus on Leon's murder similar to DR2 but at least they learned from their mistakes with DR2 and V3. (I have seen how V3 chapter one ends and it's more heart shattering then DR2....)

Teruteru did take advantage of Nagito's plan, not expecting that it was exactly Nagito wanted, or that Twogami had the goggles to see Nagito and stop him from taking the knife, not knowing when he grabbed it, he would be killed. I don't see him as a bad guy, but one hell of an opportunist. His motivation was a sad one, he didn't have to kill, but he did anyway. Him shouting from under the floor was the nail in the coffin. He could have simply made it appear he stayed in the kitchen as it was too dark, but he was over thinking the situation and gave the biggest piece of evidence next to the weapon away.

I know this is way late, but they literally discussed why him just staying in the kitchen as it was too dark wasn't an excuse. He had a portable stove, which was a light source. He couldn't have predicted Ibuki having such scarily good hearing, so him shouting made perfect sense really. His biggest flaw is not getting back in the actual room before the lights came on, but that was also Monokuma's fault. He probably didn't expect the light to come back on so fast, if at all.
