That's the best design for a rocket stove I've seen after watching many videos on KZbin. I would just add another Besser block - or as we say in the US cinder block - on top so the burners will be at a height that allows you to stand at the stove. Thanks!

I like this simple design! I've made some very similar. One thing I learned was the vertical out pipe should be 3 times the size of the intake hole so 1-2 more bricks on tops would actually make this a true "Rocket" stove and a lot less smoke and soot. I really like that you mortared it together!

Concrete blocks are made from different compositions of stone gravel/chippings with slight variations in the ratios of cement and other bonding agents during the mixing and drying processes, in different places around the world. Additionally the small pieces of stone will "pop" and explode, but at different temps depending on the type of stone those chippings are from. So most comments here are totally correct from different points of view: in one place where the fire doesn't get too hot and the concrete block is made up of some igneous or metamorphic rock gravel, a person might use one of these for years with little trouble. In another place someone might build one of these, esp in an area where there is sedimentary rock gravel used in the blocks, and face a real risk of hot stone pieces exploding off as the stove gets up to temp. It's worth doing all you can to check all the materials you plan to use for something like this, as thoroughly as possible, unless you happen to be a slightly masochistic adrenalin junkie, in which case build it from anything you like, half empty gas canisters maybe, just to see what happens.

I had a trash burner made from concrete blocks that lasted 15 years, but it eventually came apart due to heating and the fact that it was porous. Never had any problem of blocks exploding! But I view this project as something to build when I need it, not something to build and use frequently. Just have to have the materials for it stored.

That is really close to that wood deck, it should be six feet back minimum. I say this as a career Firefighter/Paramedic for 15 years, that is a huge fire hazard. Remember radiant heat will dry out the wood/deck and catch fire. I like the idea though, good job.

For those who are concerned with the block "exploding". When a block building catches fire the combustables burn leaving the block standing. Call your local fire precient and ask about exploding block. They will tell you it is not a concern. Under intense heat they can crack and crumble. If the stove begins to crack, just replace the block with a two minute fix. Done ... solved

I see a lot of you don't know that concrete can explode under high heat. Call your local fire dept.or a brick company and ask. That's why they make high-temperature bricks. All restaurants with brick ovens use high temp bricks. You will never pass inspection if you use concrete blocks.
@TinkerPrepper5 жыл бұрын
The bricks may explode if to much moisture is trapped within the brick, but that would be highly unlikely due to the slow heating of the bricks

there are specific dimensions a rocket stove needs to be to create the venturi effect. if designed correctly and loaded correctly, it should burn at a very high temp. if not, it's just a tiny chiminea, which won't get to high temps. rocket stoves should be made of insulative material so it gets up to temp quick and is super efficient. use chimney fire bricks with refractory cement for a store bought rocket stove, use clay, sand, straw, and horse manure for a lo-tech one. natural materials are not standard from location to location and needs to be experimented with before going all in.
@fannybuster4 жыл бұрын

Awesome thoughts here. Thank you. Quick question: If you didn't use the paver stone in the middle to separate the two chambers, couldn't you just light a big fire under the whole thing and use longer logs? Maybe having two separate cylinders helps keep things under control?
