I’d rather be safe than sorry. We use cast iron pans to cook. They get extremely hot. I can take one out of the oven and place it right on my cotton potholder. If I was just putting a serving bowl on the table without it being hot, then acrylic would be fine. I just don’t chance it with cast iron.

Amazing pattern. Thank you. A quick tip for cutting and securing the yarn when you change colors. Don't cut so short, and you honestly don't need to tie them together. You can crochet the end in together or wait till the end before closing it off all together, turn it inside out and use a yarn needle to wave the ends in to the project so they don't come undone. My Mommom taught me to do it the same as this video, and every project started coming undone eventually. I learned to do a I mentioned by some other crocheters and have not had the issue since.

@JustDoSomethingHomestead10 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what you’re asking. You had a chain of 33. Then you put in 3 single crochet in that 2nd from the end loop. After that it’s one per stitch until the end. Then 3 single crochet in the last stitch. From that point on it’s just one single crochet in each stitch until the rows meet and make a square. You only do the 3 stitches in the first and last stitch one time.

@Ann-qr2pv2 ай бұрын
I don't know if anyone has posted this but I've made these kinds of potholders in the past and yes they are very easy to make, but whether it is cotton or acrylic they (the potholders) are to thin. I put something inside before closing it up and I also made a ring in one corner so you could hang them up when not in use. Sometimes I crocheted a square to put inside and other times something like batting or insul-brite, so I wouldn't get burned when picking up a hot dish or pan. I found that after stitching it closed I would then work some stitches around the potholder to secure the insert. I hope this helps. After I learned to crochet, I learned to make this simple potholder and I used many different threads or yarn. I've used rug yarn which is hard to find now also the cheapest yarn I could find and cotton. but like I said it really needs something inside to help so I wouldn't burn my fingers.

@JustDoSomethingHomestead18 күн бұрын
Once you’re past the beginning chain stitches you use both sides of the V to do your single crochet stitches. I feel it makes your project stronger using 2 loops instead of one. You can use a variety of hook sizes. The smaller the hook, the smaller your stitches and ultimately your potholder. That is more of a personal choice. Thanks so much for your excellent questions!

I learned how to crochet over 50 years ago from my mom. Then I learned more in 4-H. I’ve discovered over the years that the process may vary but if the final product is consistent, all is well.

@@JustDoSomethingHomestead I was just so surprised! I know about knitting this way and that way and / but te basic single crochet stitch from the opposite direction? Howeve,r you are exactly correct: consistency will prove out. Thanks for your comment.

It’s single crochet. But I know it’s called different things in different countries.

would this work with half double crochet?
@JustDoSomethingHomestead14 күн бұрын
It definitely would, but it would have more holes. I’d be ok putting a hot pot on it but I’d be careful using it to take something out of a hot oven.
