Believe it, I have driven one for three years. Amazing and costs next to nothing to charge.

That was just the first stage, a big-ticket sports car for rich early adopters, to develop the tech and raise money and buzz for phase 2. Phase 2 is now here - the Model S luxury sedan. Motor Trend Car of the Year. I'd consider that "leading"! Still not mass-market like the big guys, but pushing the envelope of what an all-electric car can do. This and next year's Model X SUV will sell all the units they can make, so they can build more capacity. Made in Fremont, California!

Boy, I am continually amazed by how many people don't know even the basics of electric engineering. Electric motors are around 5 times more efficient than gas engines. As a result they incur less pollution per mile driven. Gas cars run 100% on fossil fuels. The grid is not 100% fossil fuels. It is around 37% coal, 30% nuclear and renewables and the remainder is natural gas. That mixture, even without the efficiency advantage, is already cleaner than driving purely on gasoline.

The EV-1 was a incredible car,slickest production car ever made,fast,owners loved them,but it wasn't ready for prime time,with gas as cheap as it was and the short range of electrics.

1.0 gauge - 4.0 is very thick cable,like welding cable or very expensive jumper cables,which allow you to jump a car with out the cables heating up.It is readily available,your just not going to find in Walmart.Look for it in high end radio products for cars,performance cars,drag racing ,road racing,battery is in rear of car ,so they use like 1.0 gauge wire to avoid voltage loss,heating up.Online you can buy everything,specialty wire,cable,connectors is a click away,bottom line,use the big stuff
@brian982712 жыл бұрын
yep. for example, if you wanted to use an extension cord on the EV charger, you would need a very thick gauged extension cord. on amazon, you could get a 25 foot, 8 gauge extension cord for around 75 dollars. (the cord is made for welders)

This is the Mitsubishi i-Miev. It does 0-60 in 13.5 sec. It outperforms its gasoline counterpart by almost a full second though.

it's not quite true that you can't use an extension cord to charge an EV. you just can't use one with thin wires for a lamp. it needs to be able to handle the few thousand watts needed and that's not that much. a few vacuum cleaners worth of power

The Prius was a "game-changer"? What did it change?
@swietoslaw7 жыл бұрын
No, or maybe in US, in Europe we have cars which burn less fuel then prius with similiar size. You know small 1lier engines are in here for ages.
@swietoslaw7 жыл бұрын
MrRandom No, in 1997 was small engines economical cars in europe, in fact from the beginnings of European car manufactories they were small, rather economical car. In hybrid you need batteries, electric motor which add weight and cost. And one more thing in country we have cheap and more eco fuel, LPG gas, which makes car much cheaper to run.
@swietoslaw7 жыл бұрын
MrRandom For diesel not, and this is not just opinion, they are test of hybrid efficiency, and they are just more expensive to run, and are more expensive to buy. Its good idea, but right now is just not that good execution.
@swietoslaw7 жыл бұрын
MrRandom Electric? noo. Cost of buing electric and cost of certain exchange of accumulators are higher then fuel saving. Not to mention right now electric cars are a joke, range and charging time makes longer trips imposable.
@swietoslaw7 жыл бұрын
MrRandom Prices will not drop the most expensive part o E-cars are batteries which are very expensive, and right now we don;t have any better cheaper once. Second this are Tesla specs, all manufactures exaggerate this thing. And more, 200 miles in optimal condition when is to hot or much more when is to cold (heating) range will drop. And second chraging in 30min 60% it is 6-10times slower then pouring gas. And you need special high voltage station (drop plus of charging from normal electrical socket), and this station is potentially dangerous. Then yeah, right now electric car are worse.

Alright, I'd expect a generic news show to be uninformed and inaccurate. But to call Reverend Gadget an "industry leader"? How exactly is he leading the industry? He's a DIY EV enthusiast who's modified a couple of cars. What is this, Fox News?

Charging stations are impractical. What they need to do is develop a removable battery system in the cars along with businesses that run like a a gas stations, but they'd swap out batteries instead. That way the driver can pull in, swap out and hit the road while the swap out station recharges the battery for someone else to use.
@DerVampyrEngel9 жыл бұрын
Electric Fuel's Zinc -To - Air batteries were supposed to set up to that with their batteries but nothing has happened on that for a long time but I can't understand why you can't do that with Lithium Ion Batteries, and you could recharge the batteries swapped out for the next electric car , use the batteries as fuel
@tellleoonce9 жыл бұрын
A range-extending trailer is more practical for swaps. The fixed battery is suitable for ordinary, daily use. People can choose from a variety of cars with different prices and range limitations.
@DerVampyrEngel9 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah range extenders would be a good option and you can run both petrol and diesel extenders on environmentally friendly fuels still getting a zero emissions car yeah cool
