My advice to new investors: Buy good companies stocks and hold them as long as they are good companies. Just do this and ignore the forecasts and market views which are at best entertaining but completely useless.

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. It's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. That holds true from long term investing to day trading.

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

The main focus for markets now is Nvidia, which has powered a large chunk of the S&P 500’s recent earnings. Nvidia’s stock, up more than 90% this year, rose 2.5% in New York on Monday, sending the Nasdaq 100 index to another record high. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

I say this as someone whose portfolio is 18% Amazon: why would they? The high in 2021 was $185, and in 2024 the high so far is… $187. I’m okay with holding it for now, but I wouldn’t recommend buying it, and didn’t add to my position during the recent dip under $100.

I’ll just add context to epbrown that the comparison of AMZN 2021 Covid high price , necessary recovery and CEO change to today’s price is misleading and not fair to the company. What they did through Covid was nothing short of miraculous, and Jassey has successfully cleaned up and streamlined (cash flow, margins) and now into the future new growth of AI, advertising, #1 retailer… the company is nothing short of amazing. Read last quarters earnings report, it is phenomenal. Jassey is great. It’s a long term no brainer in my opinion along with NVDA and GOOG. Crazy to think that especially for MSFT/GOOGL/AMZN these will be 10T+ companies in not too many more years, even TSLA could be multi-trillions

I normally don't "trade" positions, but I've done it on 3 occassions in the last 4 years: Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia. I love all these companies, but their stock price got ahead of their fundamental earning power on a few occasions. Sometimes, people will hold all or even buy more once it's gone up like that, but I took a "sell most" approach. Hitting the top doesn't matter, but rather limiting downside potential once the upside isn't very visible anymore
