Just when I had lost all hope that you'd ever react to the true kings of K-Pop again. :) I'm no fan of autotune and SuJu dont need it but "Sorry Sorry" will always be one of K-Pop's catchiest classics, the video is gorgeous in its bw minimalist understatement (as a contrast to most K-Pop excess, reminiscent of Richard Lester's films of the 60s, esp the Beatles). And an American music critic actually called "Sorry Sorry Answer" one of the greatest R&B ballads ever (ie not just in K-Pop). Much of the singing is done by Yoo Young Jin though, an SM solo singer, not a member of SuJu and he doesn't appear in the video. He also sang their concert intros and who created their early rock/dance/hip hop mix songs like "Don't Don". He also used to be a dancer so he said he approaches song writing from the perspective of a choreographer. He's a great singer, but you should also check out live versions by KRY only. The "Sorry Sorry" dance is one of the most iconic point dances of K-Pop boy groups, it was created by Nick Bass and Trent Dickens who worked for Michael Jackson. Regarding the "Sorry Sorry Answer" video I find it amusing that they seem to be preparing for dates, but then they end up going to a party with each other. :) You were actually the first reactor that I'm aware of who noticed that (or at least mentioned it). But I wouldn't expect something like that to have anything to do with the lyrics, those are almost always regular love songs, while fan services is reserved to the visuals (and concerts more than mvs). BTW, "Lo Siento" just hit 100 M views, so at least Latin America still has taste. :) Sad that you missed SuJu's Christmas song "Celebrate", that was lovely, even for Christmas grinches like me.

Yessss, so excited for this!! Sorry Sorry came out when I was in college; nobody knew anything about Kpop at the time but we still all knew the moves. Absolutely iconic. The studio version of Sorry Sorry Answer is all of Super Junior, not just KRY (pronounced K-R-Y or "cry"), and a lot of the ad libs come from the song's writer, Yoo Youngjin. KRY do it all themselves when they sing it live, which is why you'll get more recs for the lives than the MV. I love both, though the MV itself always makes me laugh 'cause I know it's supposed to be all sophisticated but to me it looks like kids playing in their dad's office. 😂

I became an Elf back in 2010 but before that I hated Suju a lot!!!! Because of Sorry Sorry, it was everywhere during highschool, it would be played all the time in the canteen, the classroom, the public areas, malls, radios and everyone's phone. It even got to the point where I had to throw my notebook to my classmate who was playing the song and I gave everyone an ultimatum to never play that song in the classroom ever, so they were very surprised when I became an Elf the next year. Sorry Sorry was super big in the Philippines back in 2009, I believe it was in the charts for more than 32 weeks. "Sorry Sorry Answer" turned me into a fan though and after watching Human body Exploration I started following them. They are quirky as hell, crazy and funny. It's you and No other were my jam back in the day. Miracle is my happy song even now and Evanesce is my most fave song. Right now, I am obsessed with Raining spell for love, Red Muhly, be, Calling, Melody and My wish. Proud Elf of 12 years! Also Eunhyuk is my ult💙💙

Btw, does anyone know why the intro music to the "Sorry, Sorry" video was changed sometime last year? That really freaked me out. Had seen it with the original music so often, and then suddenly one day it was different! Not that the old music was much better, the whole intro was always kind of weird, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who had gotten used to it. Some rights dispute maybe? Or did they remaster the video and didn't have the master of that music anymore? Odd that they didn't add any explanation in the description.

The correct name is K-R-Y. You have to read word by word. K-R-Y is the short name of Suju's 3 main singers. Kyuhyun =K Ryeowook=R Yesung=Y

There are so-o-o many versions of Sorry, Sorry (and as I've seen Rock ver. live at SS9 I want to say now that Rock ver is the best one heh), and only some versions of Sorry, Sorry Answer (sung by only KRY or by the whole group, that's the main difference). And btw it is pronounced as "K R Y" more often than "cry" but both ways are ok^^

I think it's relatively pointless to analyze the lyrics when you don't speak the original language (regrettably I don't either), because the translations, even the official ones are often so bad that we never really know what was originally said. But regarding the idea of "sorry, sorry", I think the singer is apologizing for his passion and the "first" doesn't really capture that. In Korean sexual passion is still a bit problematic, love is always supposed to be chaste, patient etc (hence also the assurance of friendship). Would welcome it if someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I do think there are good translations out there, and I'm sure SuJu would be sad if anyone who didn't speak Korean never paid any serious attention to their lyrics and what they're trying to portray, language barrier and all. On the other hand, I've studied quite a few languages in my time and am acutely aware of how much is lost in translation, not just in the language but also in its context of cultural experience, especially when the text is anything approaching poetry or lyrics. Nonetheless, I do enjoy trying to understand and being educated in the comments.

@@kpopauntie Well, but you can tell even just by the lack of quality of the English itself that the translation can't be very good. I haven't seen a single example of K-Pop lyrics in English without any mistakes or parts that made no sense whatsoever, and I doubt that it was like that in the original (even allowing for "poetic" language). It's the same with subtitles of Korean movies and TV shows, the quality even of official translations is simply deplorable. SuJu wrote few of the lyrics themselves, they haven't done any songs in English, a lot of their variety show stuff etc doesn't even get official translations (they are getting a Disney documentary and the trailer isn't even subtitled yet!), so I don't know how much they care. All that we do know is that their own English is hardly good enough to oversee it (Siwon's English seems to be the best, comparatively). Personally, I would find it even sadder to get a false impression of something rather than none at all. Not saying that it's not worthwhile to try, but that it would be better to suspend judgment rather than go too far with interpretations.
