I want to address something that has been bothering me lately, and that is the repeat comment in some form or another, about .357 Sig ammo price and availability. Paraphrasing 100 comments into one here - ".357 Sig is not available anywhere, and it's two to three times the cost of 9mm so it's useless". My question to these people is - what are you even talking about?! I know that a lot of physical stores do rack up the price because all they offer is generally Federal American Eagle .357 Sig, which is very pricey ammo. But to say that the cartridge is hard to find and to say it's like $60 a box in general, is very factually wrong. Going on ammoseek, there are 5+ pages of .357 Sig for purchase just like any other popular cartridge, and about a dozen of these retailers offer 50 round boxes of .357 Sig for $22 to $25. Also, defensive ammo is often about the same price if not less than 9mm+P defensive ammo. The fact is, .357 Sig is not all that hard to find and not all that expensive. It's not a lot different (at least online) than buying a 50 round box of .357 Magnum for cost and availability, but for whatever reason a lot of people are either seriously misinformed or have an agenda to make it seem as .357 Sig ammo is about as rare and expensive as .455 Webley (5 retailers online averaging about $65-$70).

Thanks for this video! I’ve been on the fence about upgrading my Glock 22 to 357 sig when I could just put some money into 45+p through my 1911. But what this video clinches for me is barrier penetration, reliability, and even energy dump into live target without over-penetration all tipping to the 357 sig. This all added to mag capacity pro has answered my conundrum. Keep up the great work!

For defense the .45 took it for me this time (but it would be nice to see without the feed failures) but the .357 Sig is still good at penetrating hard objects at distance. Exactly why DPS uses the round, good at penetrating barriers like vehicles.

@bryangrote8781

TX DPS have gone to 9mm. The penetration advantage is why they went to .357Sig in the ‘90s over 9mms and .45s they had been issuing before. But nowadays it’s just too hard to get ammo for .357Sig and very expensive for an agency with several hundred troopers. Nearly every agency I know of in Texas that was using .40, .45, or .357Sig has gone to 9mm in the past 5 yrs. Most will probably say due to the FBI switching but it’s also an easy way to justify reducing training costs and making it easier to qualify. I personally know over 100 officers and majority are good shots but for those who aren’t 9mm is easier to qualify with and ammo is 25% or more cheaper than any other round.

Everyone seems to be an expert on my Glock 41 due to this Grizzly brand ammo. I replaced the magazine and magazine release in June of this year. Here is a video of every .45 ACP round I have ran through this pistol since I fixed it in June, some with the stock barrel and some with the KKM barrel. For some reason, people didn't comment on the jams until I tested the Grizzly ammo. But everyone is an expert, here's the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXnXpHxjadKfbc0

Stopping power is about ft/lbs of energy, not bullet diameter. Bullet diameter directly translates to lethality. Shutting someone down with a single chest hit favors 357 SIG. 4.6 inch barrel with Underwood's 125 grain generates 1570-1575 fps and 685ish-689 ft/lbs of energy. Plus it defeats barriers far more readily. Plus higher magazine capacity. Lighter weight. Lighter recoil. Look to .40 Super conversions for .45 ACP-chambered weapons.

That .45 ammo seems to have an exceptionally high velocity for 230gr. All the testing I’ve seen with other loads in +P come in around 1,000fps give or take . 1090 is a crazy speed even from a 5.3” barrel. I’d love for you to test the velocity again and see if you get the same results. This ammo is hotter than Underwood and Buffalo Bore.

Really diggin' your video with the .357 Sig. I've carried a P226/P229/P239 daily with my agency since 1998, loaded with Speer Gold Dot 125 gr JHP's, and even when we switched over to the (IMHO anemic) Hornady 135 gr 9mm, I opted to keep carrying the Gold Dot. In practical real-world reality, I think with the .357 Sig you're basically getting a 12+ shot .357 Magnum in a more ergonomic, easier to shoot, easier to reload pistol....it's really the best of all worlds. And if you have a P229 (true, it's a heavy tank of a gun), there are 15 round options in magazines. It's a pity it's fading these days, but folks want cheaper ammo and 18+ round capacity. I don't see that's a great trade off, especially if someone is trying to scalp me. I want the most power I can get without resorting to basically hunting loads with noticeably more recoil & blast (like the 10mm), but that mirror the street performance of the legendary 125 gr. .357 Magnum. Thanks for you videos, keep up the great work.... 👍😎

That 357 Sig dumped ALL that 717ft/lbs in those first few inches, the blocks took that shockwave and decided to fly.

It was sort of an anomaly how the first and second block stuck together. They don't always do that so I think the weather was just right, also the shelf a little damp. I made a carpet shelf last year that goes over the main shelf but my new black wood blocker would prevent it from sitting there. What's funny is I added swing out top metal arms to prevent this month ago, just never employed them yet.

I'd like to see Grizzly load the 1900 fps 357 Sig with a Lehigh Defense solid copper Extreme Defender bullets, because the bullets wouldn't come apart. The Grizzly round is also 200 fps faster than Underwood Ammo's 90 gr 357 Sig Extreme Defender.
@squatchwatch5237

@@squatchwatch5237 I suspect it won't be an issue, because the extreme defender bullets are much lighter (65 gr and 90gr). The extreme penetrator weighs in at 115gr, so I suspect the bullet dimensions are the same. I've seen quite a few tests on these bullets, and they typically don't deform at all in soft targets, and I've chronographed the 65gr extreme defender at over 2100 fps out of my 3.5 inch barrelled P224.

Yeah it's one of those things. Whenever collected data comes to light on 'stopping power' well over 90%, almost all have the same thing in common, they are light for caliber. Stuff like Corbon 115+P 9mm or Federal 115 gr +P+, Corbon .40 S&W 135 gr, .357 Magnum 125 gr and so on. I have showed that basically everything like that does indeed fragment and under-penetrate. The exception is the .45 ACP 230 gr Hydrashok, high 'stopping power' however that round has since been changed in design.

I wonder if a stiffer spring in the 45 would have helped. Or it could be the hollow cavities were just too big to feed reliably. As for the Sig round, that was the wrong bullet construction for that velocity. A solid copper hollow point would probably have done better. Or, probably illegal, three segments of mild steel making a cylinder inside the copper with a hollow point noise to make it a segmenting round.

This in no way a criticism just my experience. The kind of jam you got it this video is called a 3 point jam. I have had the same jam in my 1911's. It usually caused by a mag that releases the round too quick so the Buller doesn't hit the ramp at a good angle. The 2nd reason it happens to me is when the round is load too long. Those rnds usually nose dive because they bit the ramp in the wrong place. The answer for the 3 point for me was changing mags that release the round later and it doesn't take much difference. Thr nose dives can sometimes be fixed with a different mag but for me I usually just the over all length. 1911's were designed to shoot 230gr hardball a thing else is a bonus. I hope some of my experiences with my guns can help but glocks i know thing about glocks. If it doesn't help sorry I wasted your time

I watched this video on my iPhone and it’s hard for me to see as I don’t have my glasses at the moment. Everything is really fuzzy. Perhaps you talked about it and I missed it, but do you have a stainless aftermarket barrel in that G21? That’s what it looked like to me. If so, I’d say that’s more than likely your malfunction. problem.
@GunSam
@GunSam Жыл бұрын
Like I have said again, this is not a G21. Also I just edited together a video where I show every .45 ACP round I fired this year and there were no malfunctions, not one in either the aftermarket barrel or stock barrel, many different HP ammo boxes, not one malfunction. Then, I try Grizzly ammo, it jams and everyone is an expert.

BTW I have the stock spring and a 22 lb one. Any time I have had issues with other ammo, I tried to stiffer spring. Did not do anything. That's why I get annoyed. So many people tell me nonsense that they heard from someone else, that they heard from someone else over and over again. I tried it, NOPE.

Sir, I would definitely find out what’s going on with that Glock. It’s unusable for anything but chrono work. Maybe it’s the barrel?
@GunSam
@GunSam Жыл бұрын
Works 100% with .45 ACP so I don't see the problem really. There's nothing wrong with it. The fact it cannot handle +P ammo that is 50% more powerful than typical has a lot to do with something wrong.

I'd guess the .357 Sig in 125-130 gr would be ideal.
@GunSam
@GunSam Жыл бұрын
It was designed around the 125 gr. From what I have seen anything 125 bonded to 147 gr work well. I say that as bonded 125 gr for .357 Sig are made better than regular 124 gr bonded 9mm bullets. Regular bullets like 147 gr XTP work well. Anything 115 gr or less just explodes.

You didn't focus on the bullet very long but it sure looks like they are using Everglades Bullets. I load them in 9mm and 45 super. I push that 90gr to 1700fps in 9mm Plus P and it grenades in the first milk jug so bad that only fragment holes are in that back of the jug. It doesn't even exit the first jug. My 45 loads flatten out and loose the jacket.

Clearly the manufacturer is running a bullet in their .357 SIG round that is not the right one for that velocity. As for the .45 ACP, there is a problem if it doesn't function in your Glock. I'd call both rounds a fail.

@GunSam Жыл бұрын
It's been awhile but I think what I had was not an XTP albeit the XTP for the .380 ACP happens to be a 90 gr. That being said, smaller ammo companies like Grizzly, Underwood, Buffalo Bore etc will often swap bullets in their loads depending on availability, so it is possible a different person had this ammo with XTP bullets.
