One of the Toads mentions that there are secret worlds in the paintings and walls. Also, if you note the course numbers, you would've gone from Lethal Lava Land, Course 7, to Dire Dire Docks, Course 9. So that would've been a hint to keep looking around for Course 8. When I saw the dead end hallway, I figured there had to be something there, so I just ran up to the wall and saw it shimmer. I think they wanted to mix it up and not have it always be a painting.

the desert is a very strange level, especially inside the pyramid, totally away from the egyptian theme, and these giant metal boxes reminds me a factory or something like that, this makes the level, a very interesting world.

They're not metal boxes, they're Thwomps that are wrapped up like mummies. That's why they're inside the pyramids. It's part of the Egyptian theme.

Bro the amount of times I died trying to get the 8 coins was insane. First time I was one coin away. Had to get the lake one. Vulture hits me in midair as I’m getting ready to land. Knocks me into insta kill sandpit by the pyramid. Lol next one was the shy guy hitting me with a flame on a pillar right before I took off to get the last coin in the air, and knocking me into another Insta kill sandpit. Damn was that something

I’m playing it now through 3D All-Stars and I rage quit on the four pillars level. Wing Cap Mario controls like garbage and the camera is awful. The only way you get get on top of that pillar surrounded by quicksand is with Wing Mario. I’m not looking forward to the red and 100 coin missions.

Mario 64 is still one of my all time favorite games ever. It is also one of my favorite gaming memories. Hearing about Nintedo's new system everyone and I mean everyone thought it was going to bomb. Squaresoft left for Sony (WTF!). Capcom was also now making games for Sony. Sony the Walkman and TV company? What the fuck do they know about making games. (To Sony's credit, most thought the PlayStation would bomb too. But they impressed everyone with what they did. Name is still kinda dumb though.). So I saved all my extra money and was going to put money down and get a Playstation. (I had borrowed one from a neighbor kid for a good while so he could play Chrono Trigger on my SNES. I was convinced that Sony was going to make something with their console after playing D(the vampire game) and playing Tekken 2 at home (fucking awesome). And I went to Toy's 'R' Us to put the Playstation on layaway. (it was the only way as one I grew up super poor, and if I did not my Mom might kept asking me for money). Summer of 96'. As I was in Toy's 'R' Us. and there it was. A N64 demo with Mario 64. First time seeing it. It was the full game, no time reset, and nobody is playing it. Started a new game and spent a good 10 mins running around in front of Peaches castle, just getting used to the controls. This game was different, the control of Mario was spot on. I was so afraid this game was going to control like ass. I can not stress to people now how much Mario meant to me. To me Mario was always at the top of game design. It was the first 3d game that really gave you good control. (Mario games where some, if not the best, controlling games of their time. You died from your mistake. Not the crappy controls) Once I hit Dire, Dire, Docks I knew I really liked this game. (that is still some of the best video game music ever). After well over a hour passed I noticed that I had about 15 stars (mind you this was a cold playthrough.). I did not want to stop playing. Game was just so dam cool. No 3d game had been the complete package. This was finally the game that was. I put my money that was for a Playstaion and reserved a N64 and a copy of Mario 64. (got a Playstation when FF7 came out)

I’m playing with the old version I keep running out of time with the wing hat and I don’t know how I can stop flying so low to the ground and keeps missing the bird and I’ve been moving the thing around so much and so hard to make him stop but he just flew the other way towards the freaking killer blocks and ether being crushed to death by the blocks burned to death by the fire or sunken in the sand it’s like no matter what I do this game has a mind of it’s own it’s like the whole thing during him flying is just the game taking over.
