The real reason this exists due to people taking their time and decompilng this game in order to give the source code in which someone made libsm64 a mario 64 library you can put into basically any engine

Fun fact: the reason this mod exist is because the fact that the source code for sm64 was leaked a while back. Another example of a mod like is minecraft, thanks to said leak and a talented modder.

When Mario 64 was decompiled, everyone knew it would mean amazing things for the Mario 64 modding community. Now, we literally have a DLL file that contains Mario, allowing us to literally mod him into any game. Just make a mod that tells Mario what he needs to know, and bam!

It is literally just the decompiled source code from SM64 made into a library, so any strategy you can do in SM64 can be done in this mod.

it is actually possible to get a ROM legally, all you have to do is you have to extract it from the cartridge, you can find some videos online on how to actually do it

EDIT: Here's what I mean by this: The guy in the video is saying "ROMs are illegal and it is impossible to acquire a ROM legally." That isn't true. The laws regarding this vary a lot from place to place, but in the US for example, you are legally allowed to dump a ROM from a cartridge if you own the original cartridge. And also, people in the comment section are saying some "fun facts" that are also completely wrong. This mod, as well as all other mods that put Mario 64 in PC games, have nothing to do with the Gigaleak, in which the source code of SM64 was found. If that was the case, Nintendo would be after the ass of everyone involved in those mods, and they would all have been taken down already. This was made thanks to the SM64 Decompilation Project, in which people reverse engineered the entire source code of SM64. That was made entirely within the limits of the law, and Nintendo has no legal way of taking down mods like this one. It grinds my gears when people, aware of it or not, state factual lies about emulation and modding, since those are VERY sensitive matters at the eyes of the law, in which exists a lot of ambiguity, often making people support the wrong side for the wrong reasons. I believe clearing up misconceptions is always the better option to help preserve the good things fans have created for themselves.
