Darth Bowser was a Dark Lord of the Koopas, so powerful yet so foolish he could use magic to influence the kamek shapes to destroy life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he despised dearly from living. The dark side of magic is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice cursed him with no way to access the sweet release of death. Ironic. He could bring others to death, but not himself.

I like the visual fan art a lot. Bowser literally does the exact same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. The picture makes him look like he's gone mad from loss, so he decides to take over the mushroom kingdom tyrannically, besieging it with his airships in the sky and him leading some troops on the ground. And the musical fan art really illustrates the concept, so much so that it's helped me to this interpretation. Edit: "HOW ARE YOU GOING TO STOP ME NOW?! MARIO? LUIGI? BWAHAHAHA!" A final boast before he achieves his goal at last-- they attacked at dusk, reddening the night sky with the toad's houses they've set aflame-- charred toads can probably make even better bricks than before. At last, he's reached his climax; invading the kingdom to take more than monarchy from their thrones-- they will be taken from their lives, but not until after their subjects are.
