This glitch allows you to get behind the trapdoor and reach the Bowser painting. This is a difficult glitch to pull off given the small space available for a backwards long jump (BLJ) and the precision needed to guide Mario through the castle interior.
-At the main lobby of the castle, enter the left door to the basement.
-Hold the control stick northeast as the door animation plays, and Mario will start running once the animation finishes. If you use a Nintendo 64 controller, there's a notch in the place where you should hold the control stick.
-Jump as soon as Mario lands on the stairs, and he should grab onto the floor inside the column in the main lobby that has coins on top of it.
-Backwards long jump into the inside corner of the column.
-To do this exploit, long jump as short as possible facing away from the inside corner, and immediately tilt the control stick towards the inside corner while tapping A rapidly.
-Stop tapping A and hold the control stick down and slightly move it around to navigate Mario to the entry area to send him behind the door with the momentum you built up. Try to avoid the door itself, as that will cause Mario to walk through it and enter the black room.
-The idea with holding the control stick is to keep it in the opposite direction you want Mario to move.
-You should still have momentum to keep moving, so press the left C button to move the camera while still holding down on the control stick. Your goal with this maneuver is to get Mario on the stairs in the middle of the room.
-Once Mario is on the stairs, continue holding the control stick down and move it slightly to the right, and jump to get Mario to slide up through the wall next to the 8-star door. He should continue down the hallway until he reaches the Bowser painting.
