Here is an extra detail: The 1-Up near the first pit is just far enough away from the pipe that leads to the extra coins, that you can't get the 1-Up and turn around and go down the pipe. You have to choose between the 1-Up and going through the whole level, or only getting the 19 coins and skipping most of the level.

Over and over again, Mr. Miyamoto's "creative and whimsical and fun" image is peddled -- "just make what you want and dream and la la la la la" -- they try to act like he didn't pay attention in school and just made stuff up as he went, some kind of "magic genius" -- but WHAT did he go to school for ? WHAT was the subject he supposedly didn't "really" pay attention to ? WHAT is always downplayed whenever it comes up in official Nintendo marketing imagery ? INDUSTRIAL DESIGN. The man is an INDUSTRIAL DESIGN genius first & foremost -- he knew how to guide a user's eye, attention, thoughts, comprehension, and enjoyment through complicated systems, making these intricacies accessible and "fun" and visually distinctive, intriguing, and clear. Have you seen his early hardware design work from when he was first brought on at Nintendo ? Fantastic user-interfaces, and ahead of their time.

Yo dude you should really make a sequel to this analyzing Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels (Japanese Mario Bros 2) level 1-1. That game is like the opposite of the first one in terms of level design! Instead of "every question mark block is here to help you!", its "Oh yeah you thought that was a _power up_ didnt you? Well, as it turns out life is out to KILL YOU" 😂

"putting the value of the fire flower over" Heh, is that language borrowed from wrestling? Did you recently watch that Daryl Talks Games video ("How Toby Fox Put Sans 'Over'"), or is that just incidental?

Oh after watching Roman and now Rollins fail to get over for YEARS, you'd better believe it's borrowed. Daryl's a damn good channel though. The amount of pop sans generates against his vocal but far smaller lately heat is insane.

Thank you for finally satysfying my need for this.

(2:10) A "jpg image" isn't a fixed size. You can have jpg from 10 kB to 100 MB if you want. At least when they count mp3 files, they probably use 3 minutes at 128 kb/s (personally I look for 320 kb/s, but each to their own), but there's no such common standard for photos. Photos are in 4:3, 16:9, 8 MP, 12 MP, different quality levels.

At 11:49 are they called warp pipes if Mario can't go into them?
@wariolandgoldpiramid4 жыл бұрын
The way I personally use the terminology is take the term literally. If it is implied that the pipes are straight, or are actual physical pipes that Mario traverses through, they are just Pipes. If there is no way the pipes are physically contracted, and there's clearly a magical WARP connecting them, (such as Bowser's Inside Story, when Bowser inhaled a bunch of pipes, and they connected the inside of his body with the Mushroom Kingdom), those are Warp Pipes.
@AidanRatnage4 жыл бұрын
@@wariolandgoldpiramid Yes, the only pipes that Mario an co travel through that aren't warp pipes are the transparent ones from Super Mario 3D World.
@wariolandgoldpiramid4 жыл бұрын
@@AidanRatnage I don't really agree with that either. The entrance and exit to the 1-2 sub area, I consider those to be physical pipes, not warp.

We are so aquinted to holding the run button that we never even think about It one of the reasons i preffer Green Hill as pinacle of First Stage design is that there's absolutely Nothing in game that incentivises the run button outside the decrescent timer that slowly counting down time, and for somebody that never had a interaction with a video game they might never get the mindset to use this (even with the fire flower the run button Will be the fireballs button but Nothing in the game says tô hold the Damn thing) Green Hill otherwise teaches every possible moviment avaiable on Sonic 1(Sonic 2 and Beyond kind assumes you already know How to Spin Dash) P.S i'm not saying that 1-1 is not an amazing level, It is fantastic but running is something the game lack teaching and we only knows because someone told us before pra we Saw someone using it (Ok i never thinked on the Flagpole as an incentive tô running but That's Just me)

So... not sayng that you should not make this video... Why show the extra credits video about this topic? I mean . Is cool you made this video but showing another channel that has made the same video, with the same observations years ago is weird ya know?
@pyrrhickong5 жыл бұрын
It's well covered and they make excellent points. What we hoped to do with this one is expand upon those points a bit, take that foundation and build upon it with a historical and contextual angle (plus they only do half of the level in that one). I felt it'd be disingenuous to ignore what was already stated and what other people's efforts had brought out.

@@pyrrhickong i just dont have the heart to say that i dont feel whatever is new info brought in the video was enough to justify his own existence... i mean. Comon mate . And my question was Why show the video that has at least 80% of all your information in half of the time. But again. No hate. To be frankly is my fault for waiting new info about a topic so "classic"

The Extra Credits video only analyzed part of the level, and not in such great detail. It was more of a sample of an analysis. Up until today, even though everybody keeps saying "1-1 has been analyzed to death", it was virtually impossible to find any good analysis.

@@wariolandgoldpiramid Exactly. And _plus_, the Extra Credits video freakin' ENDS by encouraging you to analyze the rest of the level through this lens!
