​@@linus6718 mario was very inconsistent in the west, dic had no basis on how mario should look, the only american source was sprites, and the box of super mario bros 2, nintendo of japan probably doesn't even know that this cartoon exists and i think the mario design hasn't changed because it had to be consistent with the super mario bros super show

@Angel Delgado I mean... that kind of goes without saying at this point? I mean, Mario IS the Mickey Mouse of video games, and even people who don't play too many games know who Mario is, so while the Blue Blur does come REALLY close in popularity, it's pretty clear that Mario is the more well known of the two. But that being said, while I do love the Mario series, I love the Sonic The Hedgehog series even more; it's up there with Kirby, Homestar Runner and Animaniacs as one of my all time favorite franchises! And while I am aware that the quality of the Mario series is much more consistent than that of the Sonic series, there are still some Sonic games that I straight up prefer over certain games in the Mario franchise, like Sonic 3 & Knuckles over Super Mario World and Sonic Adventure over Super Mario 64 for instance. Not saying that SMW and SM64 are bad or anything, in fact I find both to be pretty solid games in their own right, I just happen to like Sonic 3K and SA1 more. Plus, as a character, I find Sonic to be better than Mario. Although Mario's quite a charming character, he doesn't really have much in terms of an actual personality, even if things like the 1993 Nintendo Character Manual and him being implied to be a bit of a slop when it comes to food in Luigi's Mansion 3 may suggest otherwise. As for Sonic though... he's had a personality ever since his debut in 1991! While he may come across as an impatient showoff at times, truthfully Sonic has a genuine passion for nature and helping others, all the while naturally evoking a cool feeling. He's just a very likeable and honest person, and I like that about him! But in the end, whether or not Mario is better than Sonic is all a matter of opinion, and it is completely fine if you prefer Mario over Sonic. Though I'm more of a Sonic fan, I enjoy both series nonetheless, and it's great that even after the unfortunate death of the Dreamcast, Mario and Sonic can still coexist and continue to delight new and old fans for years to come...

Super Mario Bros. 3's graphics aren't bad, it's just that the 8-bit sprites aren't consistent with the box art due to the NES' limited hardware.

What a great and awesome Japanese commercial that is very reminiscent to Japanese anime with an awesome Japanese announcer voice. I'm also glad the game got re-released in Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES and even it's own port on the GBA! Why? Because you can make save states and continue where you left off in these said ports instead of the hassle of having to beat them in just one sitting in the original release of this masterpiece game that is declared as one of the greatest video games titles of all time.

I'm kind of a minority on this but I actually prefer the American commercial. Maybe it's just me, but it really hyped me for the game back then. This one is fine, but it doesn't have that same effect at all and is pretty par for the course for Japanese commercials.

Mario Bros (Arcade) established the brothers as plumbers. The cartoon hired American Italian actors to portray them. I guess the combination of the two eventually led to the status quo of that.
