Man, replaying SMB3 recently, the levels all seem way, way smaller than the MASSIVE LANDSCAPES FULL OF ADVENTUUUUUREEEEE they seemed to be when I was a tiny child and the game was the state of the art as far as video games went. But seeing them like this, they feel even smaler still... it feels so wrong, man! Every single one seemed like such a sprawling, fantastic world full of imagination and heart in 1990 but now they just look like tiny little chunks of turf. Really, really fun and masterfully-crafted turf, though.

See the video above? This is the sort of thing Nintendo should have been doing whenever they start offering classic titles on their modern platform. You know - something more than simply asking people to pay $5-10 for an experience 100% identical to what they got 20 years ago, or have been getting with emulators for decades. Achievements, high score tables, gameplay-transparent cosmetic enhancements. Nintendo can re-sell their old stuff to folks, but in being so unabashedly lazy about it, they're thoroughly missing opportunities.
@Xirbtt10 жыл бұрын
What the experience above? Like how seeing all the level leads to allot of wasted space, seeing foes before they enter their walk cycle because the game wasn't meant to be seen this way. Get off your high horse. This is a really cool video, very interesting to see each level laid out like that but no this is not the way Nintendo should rerelease their games. That's asinine. Mario Bros 3 is pretty damn perfect, it doesn't NEED achievements (pointless things they are) or anything else than what it has. It's a testament to this game's design that it is STILL being played today and it is still GOOD.
@Asterra210 жыл бұрын
Friend, the fact that you pooh-pooh poor defenseless achievements really undercuts your argument. By that logic, why does SMB3 even have points? I'll pass on splitting hairs over whether or not SMB3 could be made optionally more interesting with this or that enhancement.
