I can't believe there are people criticising this -.- This is extremely impressive, this game was not easy and using Luigi made it even harder. Props for killing Lakitu twice at 4-1 and then again at 4-2!

For me it was the other way around beating this game with Mario his jumps weren’t as high as Luigi’s but the only good thing about Mario was that he is agile in this game.

As a kid (like 7 or 8 years old?) I made it all the way to the place at 7:56 on here. To this day it is probably the only Super Mario game (besides Super Mario World) that I have gotten that close to beating. My old controller had teeth marks on it from me biting it in frustration. Haha. I never got to go farther since my save was deleted. It's so amazing to see what happens afterward.

The SMB2 we got on America was really an edited version of a game called Doki Doki Panic, because it was thought that the real SMB2 would be too difficult for american players. The actual game was released as The Lost Levels in the SNES compilation Super Mario All-Stars.

After world 8 you go on to world 9 if you finished without warps or world A if you did. It then goes on until world D, which is the final world. Like Super Mario Bros the enemies are faster, there's no goombas and the ramps are shorter, but the levels are completely different (well some are variations of previous levels).

To get through 8-2 you need to hit the block near a flying turtle to reveal a vine, which will take you to a cloud area taking you to the end of the level (if you play like normal you'll go to a bonus which will take you back), Unless you mean 8-3, which there's not much to say except theres lots of invisible blocks containing items, some are necessary to jump on.

The problem with this game is that it isn't really a sequel, it's more like a Master Quest or an expansion pack. All the levels are identical, just arranged differently. Like how 1-2 is still an underground level with a warp zone, or 4-1 is still a Lakitu level.

9:00 oh, i didn't know the lost levels had a harder version, too! i only played through the slightly altered version on Super Mario Bros Deluxe so far. (it plays exactly like the original super mario bros in this game. there are no special physics for luigi. also there's no wind and you can't jump after stomping enemies, so some parts that involve shell jumps are slightly altered to make it possible)

@PSspecialist While I somewhat agree with you, the other SMB2 is the reason Luigi looks the way he does now, Bomb-oms, and Shy-guys not to mention a couple other enemies and features that are in the modern Mario. No, it's possible to get that close to a fire chain without getting killed. You have a few pixels of clearance. Sprocket was cutting it awfully close though. Very impressive! And to think it took me over 100 lives to get the LL...

I remember when I've beaten this game, that every time I got a game over, I always switched between Mario and Luigi. For me, there were spots that were easy to do with each of the Plumber Bros.

You could easily cut some time off of 4-1 at the very end. If you run and jump underneath the 3 piranha plants and then run and jump onto the yellow block at 1:48 then jump again as you touch it you will land on the last tube and then you jump again just as you touch it and you will kill the lakitu and it will bounce you over the steps. This must all be done in one motion and you could cut about 2 or 3 seconds off of your time.

Looks like Luigi is the only one you can beat in this game because I tried to go through that last part as Mario, many times, and I could not reach those last platforms before beating the game. Looks like Luigi's first time to shine is this game.

The level designs in this game were so cool. This is what a mario game should be...cool levels...HARD AS HELL. Add in a few powerups and harder bosses and you've got what NSMB should have been.
