No offense but people who still believe that Hollywood can utilize Japanese products lack common sense. We have seen this so many times were Hollywood tries to utilize a Japanese product and it always fails. We've seen it with Super Mario Bros (1993), Street Fighter (1994), Godzilla (1998), Dragonball Evolution, Godzilla (2014), Detective Pikachu, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Alita: Battle Angel, Godzilla vs Kong and now this move. Hollywood needs to stay far away from Japanese products because they're irresponsible with them. It's better that they learn from their mistakes and leave Japanese products alone. But knowing them, they're just going to keep milking them for the greed of money. Japan should've never trusted Hollywood to begin with.

I remember being about 5 or 6 years old talking about how super Mario bros 64 was the best game. Then my uncle who gave me his NES system came around checking me saying Super Mario Bros 3 was the best game because there is this many worlds and this many levels in each world. So you get your money’s worth. Now I realize he was right, not because you get your moneys worth but because it’s actually one of the best.

Honestly I don't hate the Super Mario Brothers movie. Is it faithful to the games, Hell No!. But is it interesting watch and look at, yes. I mean between the practical effects, the massive sets, the costumes and the world itself, the movie is very unique and impressive to look at especaily since a film that looks like that would never be made today since people make almost all movies on Green Screen Sound Stages.

The movie was exactly what the Trailers showed: Princess Peach was the Boss babe. Mario was constantly emasculated to the point that Princess Peach made even fun of his height and even after using the mushroom he didnt manage to finish the training course (Peach of course managed the first time around- she is female after all). Instead of telling a Story about two Brothers overcoming unknown dangers to save a princess we have Luigi being taken hostage. There is of course a nonsensical Mario Kart sequence which added nothing to the movie since it was just a detour back to the Mushroom kingdom while all the monkey-army drivers were abducted. This movie didn't explain anything about the world (there was no lore of the flower Power or the Super Star. These are just things that are present because they are present in the games). Why tell a fish-out-of-water Story of Mario being introduced to the mushroom kingdom but not explain anything in it? Why did Bowser need the Star to conquer the Mushroom kingdom when he could have done it without it according to several characters in the movie (Peach stated they need the donkey Kong army to fight him off)? Why put all those Donkey Kong characters in the movie as well instead of building on existing characters? Donkey Kong got more of a character than Toad. Voice acting Was a hit and miss: Mario was bad since Chris Pratt couldnt decide to stay in-voice. Cranky Kong didnt Sound "cranky" at all. Princess Peach didnt Sound sweet and Seth Rogan was playing Seth Rogan as always. Bowser and most Koopas were great however. The music was horrendous: They constantly played random 80s Songs for no reason and I hardly recognized any tune from the games. The only good aspect was the quality of the Animation. Still a better Adaption than the 90s movie you critisized.

For sure puss in boots is a far superior animated film. Let's be honest illumination is it known for making groundbreaking stories they play it pretty safe with all their films

I hated the *2023* movie, but if i had to work with what they gave us heres some major things i would have stacked on top of it in minor detail. This is my opinion and what i think they set up for and say should have happened. I didnt expect to see anything amazing i just expected more than half baked story, they didnt finish it they left a bunch of obvious elememts out that coulda gone somewhere even if its anything weve seen before. This movie needs to replace all the slaptick repetitive kindergarden jokes and slap on more luigi scenes in their place. Add a sibling rivalry between mario and luigi cuz their relationship feels forced. Add a half hour of plot and smooth transition scenes. It could also open the oppertunity for some world building moments. Again give mario and luigi a bit of sibling rivalry, even kids know brothers fight and argue and can still be close. And let luigi TRY to put up a fight with all the enemies he faces a good 3 to 5 minutes cant hurt! Make mario struggle for more than a day on peaches obstacle course. And maybe let him feel down about it and let him rise up and BEAT IT in a shocking display for the whole mushroom kingdom! Because NOBODY besides peach has faith in him. Make full use of bonnie tylers song for the montage. This should be about 1 hour into the movie. Smoothly transition from area to area from the mushroom kingdom to the kongs. Dont just cut away every 3 seconds spend a good minute or so on each transition. Make mario and DK form a rivalry that happens over the course of the movie. Ditch seth rogan as DK dude admitted he was lazy with his performance so get rid of the actor with lazy ass-itis. Make the rainbow britch scene longer. Make mario and DK come to an u derstanding instead of keeping them as bitter rivals and work together and actually escape by teamwork and not dumb luck. Ditch jack black as bowser, i could tell its still him, he just doesnt sell it for me. Or if we had to go with him which is fine at least autotune his voice and make him sound more menacing. Have a bit of multi ending like return of the king did where mario makes up with luigi after they defeat bowser and let everyone vome apologize to mario personally for giving him such a hard time and let the last ending end with them moving to musbroom kingdom with a new villain watching from afar to set up a sequel! This is all basic but effective storytelling, a 2 hour movie like this would have worked wonders! As a kids movie and as a games adaptation of the source material. I think it would be making *A LOT MORE* money than what it currently is. The plot is unfinished. I give this movie a 5/10 for all that i found wrong with it. Not good, not great, not bad just meh, shoulda done more with it and not aimed it at 3 yr olds with indifferent parents. Also im a fan of the games but theres a difference, a game is meant to be played a movie is there to tell a story but here they didnt finish the story. I personally dont think these suggestions are profound theyre actually *basic* for my taste and i dont think all this woulda been too much to ask it would still be a nice solid 2 hour kid friendly mario film and i think many players could relate and its not even complex. This movie sucked.

Best thing about it was Jack Black's Bowser, hands down. Too bad he spent most of the movie in his castle being a mustache twirling villain... Nothing felt earned, Luigi didn't do sh*t, the voice acting was bland, and I hate the trope in these types of movies where the protagonist goes into a magical world in the beginning then brings the magical world into the "real world" in the third act. Lazy writing.
