The scene in which Luigi jumps in to protect Mario as a "Go through me" moment already makes him a better character in this reboot than he was in the original. It's a really powerful moment as it shows Luigi will do anything to protect Mario, even at the cost of his own life. He's more than just comic relief here and I really appreciate that; hopefully we see more Luigi action later on.

If you think about it, Luigi standing his ground against Bowser saved them all. While Bowser was busy gloating, it bout them those precious extra seconds for Sonic and Shadow to arrive. Adobe Flash CS3: Used to make the sprite animation. Audacity: Used to choose the audio voices of the characters and sound effects. Paintshop pro 9: Used to create the scenarios. Sony Vegas Pro 12: Used to edit the sprite animation. Swift3D: Used to draw the 3D Models and make them move. Swivel: Used to record the sprite animation in a better quality. Postscript: I searched on internet what are those programs and their functions. After searching, I think this is how Mark Haynes did the episode.

This shit is actually amazing dude, all the references to the original jokes to how mario and bowser are characterized both in and out combat its just super good. I just hope there’s more wide shots showcasing crazy 50 hit combos and stuff cause seeing that is where the nostalgia will really get me. Speaking of "jokes", there was a TOTALLY missed opportunity to reuse the "Jackhammer" joke from the original series. It goes like this: after Mario strikes Metal Bowser in the head in the original SMBZ series he suffers recoil from the impact and when he loses his grip on it, Mario sees it drill handle-first into the ground. Metal Bowser responds by saying "Look like your hammer has upgraded to a Jackhammer".

Even when the original series was cancelled, even after your Patreon was shut down, even after years of inactivity, I've never forgotten about you or this wonderful series you've created. You've put so much of yourself into it. You've constructed a beautiful story that perfectly follows DBZ using Mario and Sonic parallels. Your depictions of the characters are so authentic and true that it really shows how thoroughly you understand them. The sheer amount of polish that you've put into this series, your attention to detail, your sprite edits, your custom sprites, everything shows just how amazing you are as an artist and as a person. SMBZ helped me through a really rough time in my life, when I had lost a lot of family members, when I was going through high school, struggling with my grades, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. SMBZ means more to me than I can convey in words. SMBZ helped me become the person I am today. I wish I could find the right words to thank you. But I want to make sure you're doing okay, too. Mental health issues are a fuckin pain in the ass, and I know how awful it can be to deal with depression. Like, this episode was already incredible when it first dropped, but man, it's even better going back to it now. Like, the fight scenes are so well choreographed and it's super well done mixing the action while still feeling perfectly fitting for the Mario series; having perfectly nailed characterization so for the series mainstays and a delightful sense of humor that doesn't take away from that action. Plus, that scene with Luigi defending Mario is even better the more I go back to it after watching the OG series remastering. Since the original just has Luigi cower and sit things out in the first two episodes, but here, Luigi stands to defend his brother, despite being afraid. It's an excellent change that really captures Luigi as a character perfectly and has a great emotional weight to it, all while feeling like a great character rerailment from the original series, where Luigi always felt a bit TOO cowardly and willing to avoid danger. Keep up the good work, but take your time and also I just hope you're having a good time of it, Alvin. All the positive vibes to you and gratitude for this series.

While I'm not Mark, I can answer a bit of question 2 and question 3. Q2: I remember him saying that a Smash Bros fight fit the style of the series better than Mario Kart, since the old series is well-known for its fight scenes. Q3: He's planning on sticking to the overall formula, but changing a lot of details. For instance, recently on Twitter he said he's going to reveal Dr. Eggman in EPISODE 2 (it was obvious who it was, anyway).

I recall reading something about him wanting to alter or remove that razor-clawed black-shell koopa from the original continuity because of his goofy backstory. I'd imagine he switched out Mecha Sonic for Metalix because... well... Mecha Sonic was just some weak lil' boss in Sonic & Knuckles, and was in no way a fusion of Metal Sonic, Silver Sonic, and whoever else there was. The setup just didn't make sense. Furthermore, I suppose he has more of an identity of his own if he doesn't have "Sonic" in his name. Plus, "Metalix" just sounds more menacing. I'd imagine I'm probably getting warm with Alvin's reasoning.

It's really series' like these that paint Bowser as a true villain that revels in his villainy and bad attitude, rather than the mean-spirited Peach fanboy that Nintendo often depicts him and it's amazing. From his visible hatred and desire to destroy Mario in these scenes to the fact of using Luigi as a target in order to exploit Mario's heroic nature and even having the backup plan Peach herself threatened to get an easy attack on Mario really shows this and I love it
