This is my first time seeing this the fact its based on the old flash game Super Mario 63 makes me so happy that was my childhood i have fond memories of that game Super Mario 64's 3D mixed with Super Mario 63's style bunched up in galaxy looks amazing

why are hazy maze cave and lethal lava land in 2D? feels kinda weird to play 2 amazing 3D open levels like bob omb battlefield and snowman's land and then go back to 2D like the original game for levels like HMC, LLL, and BBH

Originally I wanted to design all levels to be 3D but after testing I realized that, certain closed environments like hazy maze cave for example wouldn't work really well in 3D. During early days playtesting some people found themselves lost in the more open levels because they weren't used to that kind of exploration in mario galaxy and there's also the problem that in mario galaxy cameras are extremely annoying to deal with so having it be a 2D perspective can sometimes lead into less potential problems in level design and less problems with cameras. I understand that a 3D perspective is generally more interesting than a 2D one and even i think it would be ideal if we could make everything 3D but then recreating the original flash game's level design got more complicated so I had to choose to maintain a 2D perspective with some sections. Adapting 63's level design was very challenging for me and in general this whole decision was taken in order to avoid camera issues/ people getting lost/ easier to land on platforms/ and memory with the game. But I'm definitely gonna try to balance this out better in the final release.

Nintendo doesn't really take down mods unless theyre romhacks, that's why even Kaizo Emanuar is able to get away with it nowadays, he doesn't realeses them as romhacks anymore
