Bdog8me It actually could. The tech demos show visuals you never saw in an actual finished DS game because there's barely any content. The bigger the game, the inferior the graphics. So they could focus on the graphics without any kind of limitations because they saved all polygons for this.

Fun fact: Super Mario Galaxy wasn’t even out at the time that Pablo Belmonte made this video. Everything you see in the video, he made from scratch, using the already-released trailers for reference. He also made this video for a class where the aim was to create a viral video. I believe this only got him a B+. I would have given him top marks for this, this is absolutely mind-blowing, even to this day.

Still to this day, I wish Nintendo could have found a way to work that beta planet into the actual game. It’s a beautiful planet. Ah, I remember how I used to believe this when I was younger. I literally searched everywhere for a Super Mario Galaxy DS ROM, but was confused why I couldn't find one. Looking back at it today, you can tell it's obviously fake. The models in the Wii footage don't even look the same as in the real game, and Nintendo wouldn't use that many General MIDI samples for their music. It's still really well-made, though.

I think you missed how I said the models in the WII footage. They aren't accurate to the models in the actual game. But the DS is still capable of higher poly models, the ones in SM64DS were almost GameCube quality, but SMG is a very big game, so the models would probably be lower poly than other DS games.

I remember pooping myself when watching this in 2009. *Now **_THIS_** is how you do a game leak.* The graphics, the DS style music, the professional trailer editing, the fluid animation, the only thing that confused me was the Nintendo Wii logo turning into a Christmas tree. And this was before Nintendo Directs even existed so Other than that, I totally thought this would be real (that is until they announced the 3DS), and I told ALL my friends, and they flipped XD. Its a bit obvious that this is fake for several reasons. 1. Mario and Luigi's animations are a bit stiff 2. Circleguy1234 is correct with the polygon count, the DS just can't handle that much and 3. This would completely thrash the story of the game.

I once had a dream (around 2008, I was 10) that I found a copy of Mario Galaxy ds (at the bottom of a lake for some reason). It still worked and from what I remember "making up", the game featured a pretty small linear hub world, a bit like the 3d land/world games. The engine was similar to sm64ds of course, but in 2.5d, just like the nsmb series. You'd collect star bits by touching the screen and the top screen would show your inventory (coins, lives). I really don't know why I remember that dream so well today. Nothing shocking happened, but I guess my young mind really wanted mario galaxy on the ds XD
