The NES has a limited range of colors that it can display at once, meaning every level of an NES game can only have so many colors. Often this means the player character will have to share colors with the levels. So, since all Mario 3 levels feature black, it frees up a color space to make Mario's overalls black rather than blue.

I would LOVE to see a Lost Kingdoms 3 after all this time, the game play was just SO unique, and they did EVERYTHING to make the mythology of the world feel real and I don't understand how a game that Tom and the absolution from toonami gave a 6 out of 10 back during the game cube era had a sequel that probably would have gotten a 9.5 out of ten that was made ad developed by the same people who made dark souls is so obscure.

I think there's a very delicate balance between adapting to modern game trends and staying true to the core values of a franchise when you talk about breathing new life into a series. When you look at how Mario, Zelda, and Metroid all made the jump to 3D, they did so by keeping a lot of the core elements that people loved about each series, while also adding entirely new features on top of it. Unfortunately I feel like those are the exceptions rather than the rule. More often than not you see franchises get the Resident Evil treatment, where they just completely forget everything that people enjoyed about the older games and just make whatever they think is going to sell the best. And I get that companies are there to make money; but it sucks when you love a franchise and have to watch it slowly morph into something completely unrecognizable.

I just wanna note that I wish Wizardry Online was still on the market. The marketing for it mimiced Dark Souls, and I honestly really liked it. The controls felt tight to me, and I always looked forward to unlocking the hybrid classes. I also really enjoyed the fear of my character getting deleted if I didn't play smart, both gameplay and inventory prep wise.

I do believe that wemes are obviously the right choice because the context in which wemes are used is very important to our society, therefore, making them have a greater meaning to us humans beings. I agree that it's unfair to demand that game franchises devolve to 2D if the series have since evolved, however there's nothing wrong with returning to the game's roots while still keeping it feel new. I don't think anyone has any issues with Mario and Donkey Kong being sidescrollers again and Zelda still having top-down-view instalments.

I'm not sure a game moving from 2D to 3D is necessarily an evolution... Both have their own advantages and disadvantages... I guess graphically, maybe, but in terms of gameplay, I see it as more of a sideways move.

I classify an Indie as a game that's published by the developer. Shovel Knight fits since it was Published by Yacht Club (excluding for the DS/WiiU). Witcher 3 doesn't. It was published by WB. Don't know if that's an official definition, but that's what indie means to me.

They've moved onto 3D Zelda games and yet they go back to make top-down games still. And those are two totally different versions of Zelda. So I think it is fair to ask for 2D Metroid game.
