crashinator1 it's not about realism, is about consistency. Like Arin said, the character doesn't have to be realistic but his actions have to be consistent with the way you presented it. It would be out of character if, let's say, Rambo broke in tears while someone puts a gun to his head, but if Ross from friends had that reaction it would be perfectly in character. None of those characters are very realistic, but their reactions need to make sense for the audience to keep invested in the story

y'know what? Danny's right, is refreshing seeing characters acting in more realistic ways, i was once held at gun-point (one of the darkest moments of my life, don't wish it to happen to anyone else even thought i know by statistics alone it will, many times in fact) and i was trying to be calm and do what i was being told, but not even a minute under it and i was already crapping myself, so yeah i agree with Danny characters acting like real people doesn't take someone out from the story/slows down things, it helps build up character and make them more relatable *also after that dark icident was over i went and binge-watched the whole Game Grumps Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, i needed some mayor happyness to feel better, thank you allot Game Grumps! =')*

well i didn't spoke of it cuz i thought it'll be long and boring but if someone asks i have no problem answering :) y'see: i was going to the ophthalmologist to get my eyes checked up cuz i was in my college finals and lack of sleep was causing me some pain and issues with my vision so i wanted to take care of it, the doc told me not to worry after doing the check-up and dillating my pupils (you know the usual) so i get off the clinic half-blind almost feeling my way to the bus station when a stranger aproaches me to ask for directions, i'm halfway telling him how to get where he wanted to when he pulls out of his jacket a gun and holds it discreetly against my right side and says "walk with me, i don't wanna hurt you, just give me all you carrying and you can go" so the bastard basically makes me walk with him to an alleyway and for nearly 3 minutes he spent checking up whatever i gave him from my wallet, my pockets, my backpack and whenever i was done giving him something he kept saying "you have more, come on give me all you've got" and about the 3rd time he says this i've literally emptied my backpack of anything worth and i think to myself "this is it, i'm going to die a 24 years old just months before graduating from college, Dear god i don't want to die WHY is this bastard gonna kill me over fucking bread" ...long story short when the bastard finally let me go i just climbed into the first bus that arrived and had to tell the driver my story to explain why i had no cash on me to pay the ride (i live in Venezuela, and our country's ... *NOT OK* atm, allot of insecurity, and an economic inflation, plus corruption the likes of which makes us seem like a second Cuba in the making so the driver quite used to it just let me ride for free the 1 hour long ride till i finally got home, and i think for the first 20 minutes i couldn't keep my hands from shaking) so yeah, that's the story, hell it was just a bad day of one bad coincidence pilling upon another, robbed of my cellphone, all my money and even the frigging bread i bought so we could eat something at home (oh right, along with economic inflation we also have a food crisis, is rare to find what you wanna buy, i've lost like 50 pounds this year just from malnutrition, good thing i was F-A-T before lol

DJ Squishy but there are people who don't consider mobile games real video games
@kevboard7 жыл бұрын
DJ Squishy no you're not. Gamer imo is the equivalent of "movie enthusiast", and I'm not a movie enthusiast just because I like to watch movies. a gamer for me is someone who is not just playing games but reads about them on a very regular basis, who analyses them, seeks the newest information about the gaming landscape and has deep knowledge about it. Like, if I asked someone what the first game Mario appeared in was, and he would answer Super Mario Bros, I would never call that person a gamer, even if he plays 10h a day... even if his answer was Mario Bros, that's still not close enough. I used this example because Mario is the quintessential video game character. he is the Mickey mouse of gaming, and if someone would call themselves a cartoon enthusiast and wouldn't know the origins of Mickey Mouse, he wouldn't really be a cartoon enthusiast would he?
@dinolandra7 жыл бұрын
Kevboard Arts you're gatekeepimg for an identity that corporations have made up for marketing purposes
@Janglur_gaming7 жыл бұрын
This just sounds so pretentious. A gamer should be someone who loves to game, and that's it. You can be an enthusiast without knowing the history of every well known entity in the genre you like. I agree with DJ Squishy, if you love video games and love playing them, you are a gamer.
@Sashrunner7 жыл бұрын
Hell, I do same thing that Kevboard does (except for the judging of people's knowledge of games, cause come on) but I feel like a person who enjoys playing games and plays them often is a gamer. Now a person who does all that is game enthusiast, but even I know a mindset like that will not get people into the gaming scene nor will it sell to an audience of people well enough to last for a life time. Why do you think most Nintendo games are made for a younger audience? It's never too early to inflict the ever so loving bug of nostalgia into a new generation. Now if we are talking about quintessential game characters, the trophy would go Pacman. The recent Pacman game still holds a 10/10 in my book. =Y

The concept of being a "gamer" has been inflated way too much, there is no special requirement. You just have to be someone who genuinely loves playing video games, someone whose life has been impacted greatly by them, to be a gamer. You don't have to be some level 90 neckbeard who's sunk 500 hours into Overwatch and as a result can no longer communicate with people in real life, to be a "gamer." Play video games, enjoy them, but always remember that unless you're making a living off of them, your life should NEVER revolve around them.

@Ranylyn7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Danny, I don't expect you to see this because I know how toxic a cesspool comments can be. But, on the very off chance you do, here's my own personal take on "gamer" and why you fit my personal description. To me, being a gamer isn't about the time or the money, or even about passion in the moment. It's not about jobs versus hobbies. it's the emotional attachment. Your story about your grandmother during the Willow one-off shows me that there's definitely a part of you that has an emotional attachment to some games. I have stories like that, myself, which is why I feel confident saying this. As for me... my parents weren't exactly the most attentive, and I was basically raised by my older sister and video games. Games taught me all kinds of lessons, like math ("Okay, I have 5000 HP and the enemy hits me for 1000-2000 every time, when do I need to heal?" Shut up, that was me at AGE FOUR - yes, I was reading at age 4 and playing RPGs, due to my older sister) and even morality. Even though I don't have the money to buy new games anymore, Gaming is an important part of who I am, you know? This emotional attachment is probably a big part of why people get so toxic. Gaming helps a lot of us at low points in our lives, and if someone... say... has a deep attachment to Ocarina of Time... they won't take kindly to Arin pointing out it's flaws since they don't want to hear it. I know it's kind of stupid, and I wish people would stop, but... I mean, that's life, right? No one likes it when the people or things they like are attacked. So yeah. You may not always feel like one of us (And to be fair, neither do I; gaming culture is so toxic that sometimes it makes me not want to play games at all) but you are.
@Shade_K7 жыл бұрын
Ranylyn well, I don't know if it was video games or your sister, but as far as comments go, the fact that you wrote such nice, balance and sweet comment leads me to believe that you're a pretty awesome person! And I agree with you about most of it by the way. Stay cool! 🤘

Thanks for your reply; it's quite encouraging to see positive discussion in these comments. Have a nice evening!

I'm with you on the same boat when it comes to the emotional attachment, gaming culture, and learning through games. Hell, I learned a basic understanding of physics from playing Sonic games when I was little (also being a sonic fan, I know quite well how it feels to have something you love looked down upon). Though I can't purchase new games and understand most of the gaming trends nowadays, I still enjoy the personal experiences with whatever games I can get. =Y
@Ranylyn7 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: I also don't like FF7 (And really like FF5 despite it's faults) which leads to a lot of disagreements. People defend it so vehemently that I basically find myself NEEDING to use examples of parts that were poorly handled to convince them "No, I have played it, please quit the whole "enlighten the nonbeliever" thing." This, unfortunately, leads to fights because people are upset I'd go there. I basically buy coffee for FF7 fans I meet IRL who don't fight me over not liking it, since I appreciate their restraint. (And as for learning physics from games... Tales of Symphonia helped me memorize the force of gravity. 9.8 meters per second squared. Except they don't add the square, but it was a 10m deep hole, so... details.) That said, I'm admittedly on both sides of the whole "fanbase ruining things" debate. The FF7 fans, for example, have admittedly left me with so many negative feelings that a game I might have otherwise found tolerable and just mediocre is a game I would rather never play again. On the flipside, I love Undertale since it's genuinely fun, but I've seen how some fans act and it's like "Well gee, no wonder not everyone wants to play it," you know? They can't ruin everything for me, but I think that every fanbase can get under some peoples' skins.

Danny does play video games for a living but not very often and most the time Arin is playing while they both talk and make our lives happy by makinb us laugh and talk about some subjects that they're only allow to talk about. Dan just plays for fun and for nostalgia purposes (sometimes he helps Arin in a level and play together in 2 players) Arin plays for fun too, sometimes he's serious, most the time he dies and gets himself killed in alot of games. they're just people who enjoy playing video games and even playing video games that they don't like at all sometimes. a true gamer has to beat alot of video games,speedruns and know what glitches, secrets and cheats in the game too.

I know this is like a two year old video and stuff so theres really no point in bringing up my opinion in what happened in the video, buuuuttt.... Dan says he doesn't consider himself a gamer even though he does it as his job and whatnot and I tend to agree, Dan is not a gamer because he doesn't necessarily keep up with all the modern games and doesn't really get hyped about what's coming out, from what i can tell. I WILL say however is that Dan is a RETRO gamer because he's nostalgic about all of the old games he's played in the passed, ie his space quest series. So yeah thats my two cents, Dan isn't a gamer, he's a retro gamer.

I feel like it depends on the character which shows how they react to like a gun pointing to there face like how would you react if like Snake or Master cheif started crying over a gun point or anything like this it just would'nt feel right for someone so tough through out the entire movie to cry all of a sudden over just gun point internal fear would make more sense then externally crying and being scared

DanSanus there is literally a mass shooting almost every day in America... (that's not a hyperbole btw. I think it was in 2016 where there were almost 400 mass shootings in the us) it's just that some get the media coverage and some are just footnotes in the news ticker. so they could never do any gun jokes if it was because of that
@cbm37 жыл бұрын
"Mass Shootings" are technically just if four or more people are injured in a shoot out, there doesnt even have to be a death. They use that term very liberally (Im not quite sure why). But thats why there were 400 "mass shootings" in America last year, something like today is rare, scary, surprising, and sad.
@xipheonj7 жыл бұрын
Most of those aren't mass shootings. I think the stats were 400 deaths across ~250 "mass shootings" . That's less than 2 people dead per shooting. They are still frequent enough that your point is still valid however, they are too frequent to avoid gun jokes in general.

A gamer is someone who plays games. I'm (admittedly) nearly as bad as Arin and I still consider myself a gamer because I play games. A gamer is someone who plays games. I don't know why the community has twisted it into someone who lives, breathes, talks, walks, farts, and makes money for their skill. A gamer is someone who enjoys playing games.

Gamer wise Dan's a Professional KZbin Gamer and a Retro Gamer (because of how he said he used to put a lot of time into it back in the retro day). Also a Professional Singer/Songwriter/Musician. To be labeled a professional gamer all you need to do is make semi-consistent money doing it. To be labeled a gamer in general it just has to be the majority of the entertainment you enjoy. Spend 90% of your "play" time reading and 10% of it playing games you're a reader not a gamer. Spend 35% playing games, 30% Reading, 20% Riding your bike, 10% Making music, and %5 learning to cook, You could be called a Gamer, Reader, and Cyclist, but calling you a musician or a chef when you only spend an hour or less a week making music or learning to cook is a bit of a stretch.

I think being a "gamer" just means having a genuine love of video games. Classics, new games, triple A titles, indie games, MMORPG, flash games. I don't think there is like a "check list" that makes you a gamer. You just have to have a real love for them.

A gamer is someone to whom gaming is their primary hobby, what they spend the most of their limited free time on enjoying. Playing games as your job doesn't make you a gamer, nor does writing about them, or even making them. It's all about your level of passionate interest in games.

arin started memeing dan there at the end, but I think that was sort of the answer to his question. a "gamer" would just be someone who wants to continually get better at the games they play, so it's practiced as their hobby. dan's real hobby (and life, honestly) is music, games are just fun. think of it something like a guy who appreciates and has owned a toy train set as a kid and still likes them to the guy who has built himself a little town and mountain for his tracks in his den. one enjoys them, the other is his hobby.

1:50 nope it's so easy to be chill if someone has a gun in your face... I was at a larp game once, set in the apocalypse, and this big dude with a shotgun came around the corner and started pointing it like a foot away from my face like "drop the sword back up or I'll shoot you" and I swear he was 10 seconds away from pulling the trigger but I pull a homemade grenade out of my pocket, hold it up, and am like "I wouldn't do that if I were you" and he backed up REAL fast.... it's so much more constructive to not panic when someone does that like if he'd shot me my character 100% would have died XD
