Right away. You're making comparisons to games where the gap is literally 10-20 years. Of course the 3d games are going to be better because it's on newer tech. And New SMB was new because it broke away from the Galaxy/Sunshine era and new being it's the new Mario using the old formula in the original Super Mario Bros style. MM and MM2 are definitely the make-your-own-sundae games because it shows you exactly how the original vanilla was made and adds all the sprinkles you would want for your own levels. But you come off as very cynical on older games that game out before you were even born.
