Being able to start a fire in any conditions is a key element to survival. Preparing your fire kit ahead of time and carrying it with you makes this task so much easier. In this video, Hutch shows you how to make a super match, which is the combination of natural rope and wax. This long burning fire starter will help you get a fire going even when the natural tinder that you collect is damp and difficult to ignite. Check out this video to show you how it works and how to make it in your own home!
Thanks for watching!

if you just use cotton rope without the wax , you can pull the rope back in after it burns so that it creates char cloth for the next time you use it . even more durable that way

I have used thicker cotton string to make mine and it work's great, it lights well with a spark and burns long and hot, and can be exstinguished in the pipe.

I have been useing wax jute twine like yours years . Since it so cheap i cut them into 3 inch long and put them into a fire tin. I can light them with ferro rod ,dead bic, and solar if i have too. To me to save on bic or my matches. I just light the jute to get my twig bundle going if i have half of it left i blow it out and get one more fire out of it. Good vid there on how you fluff them up. I am lazy if i have to use a ferro rod to light it i cut the cord into 1/8 slices and rub with my fingers and it will fall apart into light fluff easy to take a spark and light the stick of jute.

I noticed that the end that burned before, lites easily with a ferro rod. Even with stiff rope soked in beeswax. So once it has burned it is easy to re-ignite

I think the key with the cotton is: Melt 2/3 wax, 1/3 Vaseline. Dip, only soak briefly. Dip again. Burn end with flame ahead of time. If you "say your ABCs" thats WAY YONDER too long to use right off with Ferro only. Dip one end of a long rope, heck man, LEAVE part of it plain if you want😂 That way, you'll get an ember as sure as skunk stinks! My problem is everywhere I look, that upholstery piping is $$$ for 100 feet of anything 1/4 inch and up. But hey a 1 inch 100% cotton rope chunk makes some of the best char material you will ever use. Its producing a big ol honkin ember like a cigar. Chunk THAT in your tinder bundle😂😂. I guess there's about 1000 ways to do this.

Its like using a fire piston and picking out the ember. That is THE most nerve wrecking thing in all of Bush craft to me, except fire drill!.😁 So I get the ember and then just BLOW that ember into a bigger chunk of char!😂 A shepherds lighter works just like that. As long as it don't get wet, the wind can blow its lungs out and all that Shepherds lighter wick will do is glow freak in red hot . It LOVES high wind brother😂
