Nice ! But why in dry grass/weeds ? Disappointing. For someone who teaches? I added a like and a subscription. Now after this video removing both.

The fire was started on a rock surface to minimize risk, and while there was some dry grass nearby, it’s not as dry as it looks. The ground was damp due to winter conditions, with some snow present in the area. We were right there, fully prepared to handle any situation immediately. We were present and attentive and ready to control it if something would have unintentionally caught fire, but it didn’t.

"Nobody likes drinking hot water" literally like half the planet would disagree with that, hot is how like a huge portion of Asia drinks their water. I think it's mostly an East Asian thing, like Vietnam, China, I think it might be an old person thing in Korea... It's a little bit of a meme among second gen children of Chinese people in the states, I've seen quite a few videos about their moms always telling them to drink hot water for their health. Also that first sentence reads a little combative, but that's not how I intended it. Just wanted to share some cool info you may not know.

I wash my nordic, Norwegian and aran fisherman sweaters in the machine all the time with great results. #1-use front load machines with no agitator in the middle. #2- use woolite or hair conditioner #3- cold water only #4-wash on delicate cycle #5-"DO NOT PUT IN DRYER" #6-stretch and shape to your liking #7-lay flat or place on rungs of an air dryer ( I have quit a few so I wash several at a time). Take care of your sweaters and they will last a very long time!

The winding stick is too short. The indentations in the frame will prohibit the tensing string from tensioning the saw blade properly.

The blade appears to be that of a small hand buck saw or some call bow saw. If so, these saw blades can be purchased as a replacement Blade in most hardware or garden tool stores. That surely is a well crafted saw though.👍

I have found it best to "open" a big cotton ball, "squirt" a blob of Vaseline (from a squeeze tube of it) into the center, then close it up and squeeze just a bit - that way the exterior is dry, loose fibers that take a spark easily, and quickly ignite the Vaseline fibers inside. The dry cotton ball fibers also allow "capture" of sawdust and shavings of any wood - including fatwood - which also prolong the burning of the cotton ball exterior. Another technique is to place the cotton ball starter into the twig fire lay core, strike a waxed jute cord "long match" to flame, and push it into the fire lay core to ignite the cotton ball starter. The "long match" can be left in place to help ignite the twig tinder, and withdrawn and snuffed for later use. (Such jute/hemp "long matches" are often sold/made with 1/4" diameter, 3" or more Aluminum tubes as "snuffers".)

Eat the Texas Red Chili with cornbread and/or tortillas (corn or flour) for the starch and beans as a delicious side dish. As an immigrant to Texas it took me a bit of time to figure this out. Beans, i.e., pinto beans in Texas, are a side dish and get cooked with a required starch, preferably an orange veggie like sweet potato or carrot, diced up and included. Why orange? I should have asked, but didn't, and only know this about the orange starch because a native Texan college roomie let me in on the secret back in the 1980s. This decreases gas production in the guts and lowers greenhouse emissions from bean eating.

40 feet of line to not even complete a lean-to? Yikes!! I normally build mine without using any but to each their own. Couple packs of shingles that you hike into the woods, and that thing will almost be done.
@thesurvivaluniversity

Yeah you can definitely build it without using 550 for sure. We teach our students the 5 Cs of survival, so we teach how to effectively use 550.

@christinafisher9357 3 ай бұрын
@thesurvivaluniversity I get using some line. I don't get using 40 feet of it. You teach your "students" to walk around everywhere with 40+ feet of para-cord? Or is this a camping trip where you could have just brought a tent? I don't get it. Are you "surviving" with what you have or camping with too little gear? In both cases, having 40+ feet of 550 on you is crazy.

Forget what this man says listen to somebody who's who's lived in a tent for the last 7 years do not put leaves in your tent it just gives the rats a place to hide not to mention a place where they can drag all of your food back to causing spoilage which then causes a smell and it's gnarly
@thesurvivaluniversity
@thesurvivaluniversity 3 ай бұрын
I do agree that it can give rats a place to nest. But we have our 50 day immersion students live in their own primitive shelters. Leaves are good for roof waterproofing (duff) ( at least 3 feet). Leaves are good for bedding to get you up off the ground. If you are having rat problems that can end up being a good thing, meaning you can set dead fall traps for food.

If you're short on rope when you're stranded in nature, use nails instead. Just ask your neighborhood bear if you can borrow his hammer. Bam problem solved

Of course! Every bear I’ve ever met is more than happy to lend out their tools. I’m sure they keep their hammer right next to the picnic basket they stole from the last camper. Problem solved indeed-just don't forget to bring them some honey as a rental fee!

You telling me I have to bring chemical if I wish to be stranded nowhere is that what you are asking
@thesurvivaluniversity
@thesurvivaluniversity 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Just to clarify, no, I’m not suggesting anyone should pack chemicals in case they plan on getting stranded…because, let’s be honest, who plans to get stranded? This video is simply one of many techniques to start a fire. In an actual survival scenario, you’d ideally use more accessible methods like modern tools, friction or flint and steel. But hey, it's always good to expand your knowledge, right? Stay safe out there, whether you’re planning to get stranded or not!
