This is the first day of my Super Metroid playthrough. Yes, I realize I pronounced Samus wrong a LOT 😅 (I promise I got the hang of it eventually.)

The guy in chat who said “no text, no manual” gets his Super Metroid license revoked. I love watching first time playthroughs of this game, that’s why I’m here. But Super Metroid absolutely came with a manual. The manual explains everything. 90% of new players’ frustration would disappear if they would just read the book first. The run button, five missiles to open doors, two suit upgrades and what they do, what power bomb and speed booster icons mean-all the common stuff is explicitly shown.
@Animebryan2
@Animebryan2 3 жыл бұрын
The physical copy when it originally came out had a manual, but if you're playing this in current times, you're playing it digitally (either on an official platform or through emulation), and you don't get a instruction manual with digital distribution. So you should get your Gamer's license revoked for not knowing better :(

@@Animebryan2 You do get a manual with digital distribution from Nintendo. Scans of the manual are also readily available.

@Nathan Hannon it’s frowned upon. The idea of the game is exploration and trying to find things on your own and remembering landmarks on your own. I recommend only using a guide only if you are absolutely stuck. However I do recommend making your own map as you go. You can of course utilize the one programmed into the game as well, But if you make a simple one on a piece of paper and a notepad or something then you can make notes of where you would like to go back to or points of interest.

Exactly! That kind of thing bothers an "older generation" gamer like me when I watch younger streamers play these games for the first time. Games like this always came with manuals that explained basic play mechanics like the morph ball, missile doors, aiming diagonally, etc., so seeing streamers and their mods enact a blanket ban on anyone sharing a simple mechanic that would've been explicitly shown in the manual is very frustrating for me. I'm glad that she's enjoying figuring out the game, but there's really no good reason why she had to struggle that long to figure out how to use the morph ball, for example.
@Kire486

@@StephenCinAZ It's something the younger generation never experienced. As kids the "older generation" would often read the manual in the car while our parents drove us home from the store. Not to mention a lot of lore was in the manual and not in the game.

1 hour 17 minutes and the "missing something paranoia" starts, it is the #1 thing i love about new people trying SM because when i was a child i checked every single wall/corner and everything with all items because i never had 100% as a child. You get so paranoid about hidden items it becomes a hunt, a game, you feel like a detective. Iam glad to say, not a single other player i watched didnt feel that way. i love to watch the curiosity SM awakes in people and how they go about it. Thanks for uploading these, iam surely gonna watch the full playthrough over the next week or so!

I got your vid recommended to me because I've been watching a few metroid videos due to the hype around Dread - as youtube usually does - and I gotta say there were a few times my fingers itched while watching some of your play. Like when you're trying to morph ball or diagonal shoot. I wanted to somehow time travel and telepathically tell you the button prompts. It was killing me inside, haha. All in good fun, of course. It's part of the charm in playing Metroid! Super Metroid was my first video game played on my father's SNES, so it is dear to me. It's great to see others enjoy the classic which seems to have reignited because of the hype around Dread. I'm sure you will one day see another player play Super Metroid for their first time and you'll have that itch and think: "double tap down!!"

Came here after your Dread and Prime playthrough. I played the original SNES version back in '94 when it was released (yes, I'm old...er). My favorite video game series of all time. I even remember the day my dad bought me the original NES Metroid out of a hobby store in the 80s (I was 6 or 7 at the time). It's also the only NES cartridge I still have out of my 30+ collection I had as a kid. I seriously hope you play others in the series (Metroid 1 & 2 haven't aged too well, but there are remasters that are fantastic). And then we got Metroid Dread coming soon!!

You're lucky to have played Hollow Knight before any Metroid game. I was a fan of Metroid since like 2004, but once I sunk my teeth into Hollow Knight I was almost willing to forget about Metroid entirely, (I swear, if Silksong had come out at the same time as Metroid 5, I would have been trapped in some sort of existential nightmare trying to decide which one to get first.) That said, Metroid will always be special to me, no matter how much its inspirations surpass it, and finding all these vods of your first experiences with my favorite games has been such a joy. I can't wait to catch up on all these and eventually play Dread along with you. Also I'm excited to see your reaction to Axiom Verge 2 if you ever get around to it, because that game is incredible for speedrunning.

Love to see newcomers for this series and starting on my favorite one though Dread is working hard to claim the spot but i can effectively 100% speedrun this game while Dread has a lot more loading and the areas are bigger. I'm really bummed that Nintendo has not gone further than Mario Lego sets to other big franchises like Zelda and Metroid cause there is a fanmade set of Samus' ship that can be made into the multiple versions over the game series.

Watching her stand in front of the opening to the spazer beam and not trying to go through again was the most infuriating thing I've ever watched. The "trapdoor" conclusion was really off. So unfortunate that one can get stuck like that. It's sad because the game very clearly communicates crumble blocks and yet she for some reason thought it would still fall through :( It's incredible how very in-your-face game hints go completely over the radar. I don't know if this is due to lack of attention (too much focus on chat) or just very poor logic skills or outright fear of the game itself (fear of falling, fear of dying, etc). Anyways....

A stream of you playing Mario RPG would be amazing. You definitely seem far more in tune with Nintendo console games, however, might I suggest a brilliant RPG not on a Nintendo platform? Shining Force. There is a version that was made for Game Boy Advance, and it adds missing story elements lost in translation plus an extra story with new characters, but the SEGA Genesis original is a timeless classic.

way late comment, but here's my own preference for the controls setup: (this control setup and hand setup, enables you to use any combination of running, shooting, and/or jumping, along with the angle up, and also the item select and item cancel as well too, with ease) --------------- NEVER have the 'moonwalk' ability on... it was just a novelty feature (as michael jackson was still popular when this game came out, lol)... as it is very detrimental to playing within the game environment... ------------------ using a SNES controller's button layout: Y = shoot (tap or hold, using right index finger) B = run (constantly hold down with right thumb, and to rest/hold entire right hand in place) A = jump (tap or hold, using right ring finger) X = item cancel (using right middle finger) (while the X button may seem better for using the 'item select', it's really not, you want the X button as the item cancel and the SELECT button as the item select) L = angle up (using left index finger) (the angle up is extremely useful/powerful, so it needs to be easily used at will, which is why it's assigned to the L button) R = angle down (with my right hand's setup, I can NOT use this button at all, which is why I set the angle down to it, as the angle down is the least useful thing, as if/should you ever need to angle down, you can just jump into the air and use the d-pad to shoot down, or you can release you right hand from its setup temporarily, to hold the R button, for the angle down) D-pad = up, up-left, up-right, left, right, down-left, down-right, down (left thumb) SELECT = item select (using left thumb) (while it takes some getting used to, moving the thumb from the d-pad to the SELECT button and back, it's good to have the item cancel being used with the SELECT button) START = map/equipment screen ------------ for using the keyboard, I like using this: (note that generally/usually keyboards can't handle 3 keys pressed at the same time, but you can adjust to this limitation, as you play, without too much difficulty for you and for playing within the game environment) (look at the SNES controls above for matching up with below) (using the right side of keyboard's 3x3 block of numbers, NOT the keyboard's top row of numbers, of course, lol) arrow keys = d-pad (left, right, down, up, right-up, left-up, right-down, left-down) (using left hand's fingers: left index for the left arrow, left index for the right arrow, middle finger for the up and down arrows) 7 = L (right index) 9 = R (right ring) 8 = X (same right middle finger placement as SNES controller setup above) 4 = Y (same right index finger placement as SNES controller setup above) 6 = A (same right ring finger placement as SNES controller setup above) 2 = B (same right thumb placement as SNES controller setup above) 0 = SELECT (right thumb) . = START (right thumb)
