THANK YOU for mentioning FLAT earrings/jewelry!! I have been doing this for years (considering what items will take up less space and lay flat/pack better/make better use of limited space) but don't recall ever hearing anyone talk about it in all the packing videos I've seen!!! Others have mentioned inflatable neck pillows and lighter-weight, less bulky fabrics, but not accessories (jewelry, shoes, etc). For example - I love my espadrilles or wedge heels, but I will not take them on a "packing light" trip because they use too much space in the luggage. Instead, if my trip includes a dressy occasion and I can't get away with flats/sandals, I'd take a minimal-style pair of narrow or kitten heels, and that leaves open spaces I can shove other items in. Every inch of space counts ;) use it wisely! It helps to think of packing like a game of Tetris (or a puzzle).

I recommend wool and silk fabrics and getting good at layering. Bring two thin wool undershirts and a wool leggings to go under your pants, and the rest of your clothes don't need to be as warm and bulky. My best cold weather trick is I bring two silk scarves. They spruce up any outfit, can combine if it is really cold, and they are super lightweight and small when packed. For a coat, I don't actually own a winter coat (the coldest it gets here is a few degrees below freezing) but I use a rainproof biking jacket plus a down jacket that can go underneath it in winter. The raincoat keeps rain and wind off and the puffy down jacket keeps the heat in - and when the weather unexpectedly warms up, the puffy folds really small in my bag. Combine with previously mentioned scarves, a hat and some great possum&wool gloves and I'm never cold :)

Where is the umbrella, rain coat or wind breaker, hat or visor. There are some items missing, like tooth brush for instance. It was admirable but incomplete. I am heading to Boston trying to have a back pack and carry on which worked perfectly this summer to London. I fear that I might have to bit the bullet and pay for a checked bag. Trying my best not to though...
@world_plus_you2 жыл бұрын
🤣😂 you think I don’t have room for a toothbrush? Seriously? I don’t travel with an umbrella or raincoat…even if I take a large bag. That’s overpacking. I don’t pack for “what ifs”. I buy an umbrella there if I encounter rain. I travel excessively and have purchased an umbrella once or twice in my life on a trip. You can’t travel light and pack hats. If you want a hat and jacket, you need to wear them on the plane. Good luck on your trip to Boston!

@@world_plus_you I'm an American living in Germany. I don't leave the house without an umbrella because if I do, I will get soaked. I also traveled extensively for work and other events and climates in which more than what you travel with is required. Now that I travel for events, I don't need as much but still it is challenging to have what one needs. For instance, on Cape Cod, one is not going to find the same supply as in a big city. Of course, I assumed that you would travel with a tooth brush, I just didn't see you mention having packed one. Make up yes, toiletries no.
@world_plus_you2 жыл бұрын
@@yubantwo2086 I think packing has a lot to do with priorities. With the weather in Europe you might prioritize a small umbrella over hair products…but a lady with really curly hair might have to prioritize her hair products. It’s all about overall examining what you can or can’t get by without. Different for each person! Cape Cod…strange you bring that up as we have a business there and visit frequently….I wouldn’t say it’s hard to find basic essentials on the cape! It’s pretty civilized. 😉

@@world_plus_you That's funny because I've "curley" hair so hair care products & an umbrella are a must. In fact, I"m headed 1st to Boston & then the Cape for my for my 50th high school reunion & to visit friends this September/October. I went to high school, lived & worked university summers & been going to the Cape since 1969. I've also lived & worked in Cambridge/Boston, NYC & all over Germany. In my experience, it's impossible to be at the Cape w/o a wind breaker w/hood if walking on the beach is on the menu. Anyway, now that travel for work is over & traveling for fun is the order of the day, your clip & those from others are helping me scale down.

At last a video and person that packs like me! but one criticism that cube is too big so it defeats the object of using a cube when it is so huge, the fact you don't roll tightly and as neatly as i do makes a difference too but the flatter the better is the best rule which you do and is exactly like me.. You do you, Jeanne. If you want to travel with all that stuff, you can’t travel for a week in a backpack. Simple as that. I pointed out that I brought a wrap for the plane.
