It's subtle, but I really like how World 1 introduces the bounce flooring, World 2 and level 3-2 really explore the fundamentals of bounce and acceleration flooring, and then the rest of the hack uses those new mechanics to their fullest.

@@seabit253definitely, i didn’t enjoy a single one of the five-minute levels. I liked a lot of the shorter levels, because they actually felt like super monkey ball stages, and there were some, like 2-10, that were really creative, but a lot of the later levels (especially the master levels) were just simply not fun, and it was entirely because of the length.

I was pretty worried when I saw the 300 second counter for Apparatus... but I was surprised at how fun it was to play! Even if I died, I could try out new combinations and see how the stage changes each time. Probably one of the coolest Monkey Ball levels I've played. Also, HOLY CRAP CURTAIN CALL!!! I spent about 3+ hours on that stage alone! I always felt a sense of relief after reaching the pyramids, knowing that things are pretty easy until the "focus" section. I was looking at the map and saw the last section and felt a huge sense of dread and memories of culmination. I saw the extra goal on top of the box and I was praying that the play switch would bring it down. Fortunately it was, and I felt a huge sense of relief when I reached the end! Amazing hack, can't wait to try out Master eventually!

This is the first SMB2 ROMHack I've played, and I loved it! Such inventive level design, I like the "randomized" levels like Battle Royale, and the "create your own level" aspect of Visionary was genius. It was hard as hell but not unmanageable or unfair, and while some levels were maybe a bit too long overall the difficulty curve was just right for an experienced SMB2 player. It also had great graphics and an amazing soundtrack (seriously, someone rip that shit and upload it to KZbin, it slaps). I look forward to playing many more well-designed SMB2 ROMHacks in the future!

Check out Monkeyed Ball 2: Witty Subtitle. It may stick only to the gimmicks featured in the original Super Monkey Ball 2, but the level design is superb! It includes a full-fledged Story Mode, plus a full-fledged Challenge Mode in which Beginner, Advanced and Expert each have 10 more stages than usual! You also start with 5 lives, but that's not bad at all, considering the bonus stages each have 200 seconds on the clock and have a humongous amount of bananas, making it easy to rack up extra lives. That's almost essential to beating Master, as the stages there are very fun but very unforgiving. Luckily, no gauntlet-like levels are in this hack. Good luck, because it's almost as hard as Gaiden. All you SMB2 hackers should totally be hired at Sega since not even they could come with such phenomenal achievements of ideas of Super Monkey Ball (hacks) to this day (if you like Sega even to this day, power to you, but as much as I want to say that even by late 20th Century Sega standards, Super Monkey Ball is their best franchise, I actually think that since 2006 with ALL THREE OF THE GAME RELEASED IN THAT YEAR OF SEGA’S DOWNFALL (Touch and Roll, Banana Blitz and especially Super Monkey Ball Adventures again, if you actually like these games, then that’s fine), the franchise started to be the only Sega franchise that I like even less than Sonic the Hedgehog (which I have a very mixed opinion on as a whole; the Classic, Boom and Dreamcast Eras of Sonic were pretty damn neat, but the Saturn, post-Boom and post-DreamCast Era are more of a hit-or-miss).

Yeah, so apparently it’s for speedrunners. Going to the stage select allows you to skip the goal animation, and it still counts the levels as cleared, so they put one just one single button press away to make it easier for speedrunners.

This is clearly a labour of love, and that's about the best thing you can say about a video game, mod or otherwise. But I think I would have some criticisms of it, all the same (the game itself, not your completion of it which was really slick and skilful). First in the positive column I adore the number of beginner and intermediate skill stages in here - something the base games really skipped by a bit too quickly, without feeling like a natural ramp-up. Hell of a lot of creativity on display. However, I feel like there's a bit too much use of gimmickry, especially warp gates and switches. There's a reason they were kept to a minimum in the original releases (they feel a bit like level construction cheating, and don't lend themselves well at all to being able to figure it out quickly if you've got the wits). I felt like the base game used them even a bit much, but here they're absolutely everywhere. However my main gripe would be turning all the levels into lengthy trials, from about a third of the way through onwards. The best kind of super monkey ball has a rhythm to it. Each stage is a thing, not ten or twenty things. Maybe two sometimes, occasionally the odd "exam type" exception to break it up. There were way too many here and they would require absolutely insane trial and error to even know what the hell you're doing before beginning to complete them. That's not the snap-snap-snap on to the next one style that's a big part of the fun of the originals, so I feel like that's an element that's been largely lost here. However I gotta say, great music choices fit very well, and they took the time to fill out the backgrounds and make actual worlds which a lot of these level packs don't. So that's impressive. Also the original games were missing a true speed freak stage, and this patches up that hole. Guess I'm saying it's not much my style for a bit over half of the content but I mean, they obviously did what they love and so there's no actual fault here, just an opinion. My favourite stages are the ones that look about as simplistic as they actually are fiendishly tricky, so... that's where I'm coming from. Nice video, was very cool to see all these new stages! And well done making it through.

I'm just stuck at the title screen. I'm trying to use an XInput/0/Gamepad, or pdp. The configuration controls don't seem to work for Dolphin. Any help would be appreciated, I really want to play these stages. EDIT BELOW Never mind, I was able to answer my own question! For those who are also as confused as me, you have to go to the Controllers tab on Dolphin and individually input each button on your controller. Including Joystick direction. Once I did this, it was smooth sailing. Mostly. Stage 8-1, or Lock On, is kicking my ass to no end. But I'm having the time of my life. This game is perfectly scaled to difficulty, with each world introducing new skills and harnessing your abilities for the next. And it's not even close to being the hardest stage, as I'm well aware after seeing this pack. I am so thrilled to be playing this, at long long long last!
