I don't know if you look back on these older vids but I just picked up a used SNES with what I'm hoping is a similar issue and I want to run down what step's I've taken to diagnose my problem before I just replace the pin connector. -Primary problem: system starts, games will run but eventually the system will run into problems reading from the cartridges and the game will freeze. Steps taken -I've ruled out the cartridges being faulty by testing them on a known working system (have a friend who's another old system collector like myself and has some tools for me to use to poke around at mine) -I popped the system open and found some minor wear on the shielding but looking at the board there's no signs of corrosion anywhere I can see -cleaned out some fuzz from the pin connector slot and cleaned with Iso 91% Hypothesis: -there's some corrosion on the pins I'm unable to see that is causing these cartridge read errors.

Hi michael, Your problem may be a bit different, but your greatest clue will be in the reproducibility of the game's freeze. Can you freeze the game by gently wiggling the cartridge whilst it's on? If not, it probably isn't the 62 pin. The ultimate test would be to check continuity of each pin, especially the ones you observed to be corroded, using a multimeter. If you are able to reproduce the freeze every time the game plays a certain sound effect, for example, or every time you register a high score or display a certain sprite, then the problem is very likely something else. If you are dead-set on getting this puppy working, I would start by investigating the solder joints on the motherboard and verify continuity. Something in my gut also says: It could be the RAM, but I'll leave that to you to sort out... Happy troubleshooting, my friend :)

@@VestigialVoice I appreciate the help, I'll give your advice a try. I will say the sound still works when the image freezes and turns into a mush of sprites and pixles which makes me believe it's the 62 pin but I'll pull the board and look it over again. Other games just goes to a blank screen, it's the first relatively affordable SNES I found for sale in my area and I have some experience building PCs so I'm willing to turn this into a new project.

Was that a new connector you put in? If so do you have a listing or site that you got it from? All the ones I've found have pins on the bottom and not a slot like the one in the video.

Links would be too dynamic. The part gets listed on eBay from time to time though. Good luck, my friend 🍀

is the 62 pin connector on the snes different then the one one the super famicom?

Hi John! The SNES' 62 pin connector is for NTSC. I don't believe it will work for PAL. Did you get a chance to try it out yet?

Can you link where you bought the replacement pin connector? I've been looking for one. All the ones that come up on ebay, look much different!
@VestigialVoice3 жыл бұрын
Hi Taishen, Last year, a guy out of North Dakota posted like 50 of them on eBay, but I haven't seen any of this style recently. The ones that look different may work but would require slightly more complex soldering. If I run across another SNES with the same problem, I'll attempt the fix with that generic 62 pin connector and post a video. Thank you for checking out my channel, bud 👍

Crap! I’m in the same place! My system blanks when I rock the cartridge and getting it to start in the first place seems to require finessing the right location of the cartridge. This makes me think it’s the connectors. If I have to solder a new piece then how do you know it’s oriented correctly before doing so?

Sadly, Obi, nobody manufactures these. eBay sellers occasionally list them. At the time of this video, there were about 3 dozen for sale there. I haven't since many since though.

I got one off of ebay, Still powers on but no signal. I broke it down, cleaned every component with 99% alcohol and the pin connector looks flawless after a through cleaning Still no signal, only a bar of green or white whenever I turn it on and off. Tested another pair of working Av out cables from my n64, same thing And now it has decided to stop powering on. I think the fuse blew out from tinkering with the on/off switch I’m so lost

Hey! I found this at a yard sale for 10 bucks. Score! But when I turn it on..it plays for a minute and stops??? I assumed it was the pin. But maybe it's something else? I put Mario All stars in and it plays the coin..little chatter and stops. With a white screen. Ideas? (I currently am having trouble finding a replacement pin)

That's a bummer. So, where does that leave you? Of course, make sure the cables and cart you are using for testing truly work on a different SNES. If that's true, either there's a problem with the install or you've got a different issue going on (but you've probably figured that out by now 😉).
