The history of these paintings seems oddly specific. Possibly they're meant to reference some of the first Japanese emperors and empresses? Also, to the people commenting on the King's eyeshadow and lips: ancient royalty very often wore makeup, perfume and wigs, no matter their gender. As for now, keep up- dudes can wear makeup if they want to!

Let's also not forget that he went crazy so it could have been that crazed obsession with Beauty that lead him to wear so much makeup. (I can't recall if he had it in the portrait or not.) Edit: okay he was. But it looks less pronounced. Might just be me. I like the idea of his obsession with beauty leading to an overuse of makeup though.

He showed the blue pure heart in Chapter 5. He has multiple arms that each cause damage. The main enemies are plants. This was the first appearance of Poison Piranha Plants. King Croacus also turned out to be a pretty good guy. Cortez showed the blue crystal star in Chapter 5 of Super Paper Mario: TTYD. He also had multiple arms, lived in a jungle full of plant enemies, and chapter 5 was the first appearance of Poison Piranha Plants. Cortez was a good guy.

King Croacus is actually the only boss you fight and directly receive the Pure Heart from. (If you count Mr. L's chapter 6 fight, then he's the only one you fight who directly gives it to you and originally had it) Red: Merlon gives it to you, no boss fight over it Orange: fight Fracktail, received from Merlumina Yellow: fight Mimi, received from Merlee Green: fight Francis, received from Tippi Blue: fight Mr. L, received from Squirps Indigo: fight King Croacus, receive from King Croacus (though technically from the Floro Sapiens, as Croacus is wilted) Purple: fight Mr. L again, receive from nobody (he stole it before the fight and drops it, but he wasn't originally in possession, King Sammer was, and he doesn't directly give it up, he just drops it) White: fight Bonechill, received from Grambi and Jaydes after Luvbi transformed back into it
