Right?? I keep thinking back to a class field trip when I was in 8th grade. One of my classmates' dad had taken a 2600, stripped it down, and wired it up to run on batteries, and he also had a portable (sort of) B&W TV with a little tiny CRT screen. The battery life was atrocious, and I think he only got about 20 minutes on a set of big D cell batteries, but we were all amazed that he could play Atari ON THE BUS! I always think of that whenever I see a product like this. It's wonderful how far we've come.

I really like the attention to detail on this. Making sure that the controls are configured properly and work for all games seems like a basic thing, but lots of retro devices just shovel in a whole bunch of ROMs without making sure that the games are actually playable with the control setup. On that note though, as a long-time Liberator game, playing it with a D-pad instead of a trakball or mouse seems like it would be a real challenge, so don't worry about not doing well!

Stupid question I freely admit. But my being an old TV engineer i don't understand something. You mentioned that some games you can turn on scan lines. Are these the same annoying scan lines that came with NTSC compatible TVs? If so why would you ever want to turn them on? Nostalgia? Do you know how gard an engineer worked to make those things as undetectable? Ask any Talent that wanted to wear herring bone suits or ties. 😆
@GenXGrownUp2 ай бұрын
That's exactly the reason, Rick. Nostalgia. For most of us, we first played and enjoyed these games on old CRTs, and playing them with perfectly crisp visuals can sometimes take away from the feeling or memory of the game. Adding scanlines is just a small way to further replicate the old-school experience.
