This video shows the quick and dirty way to put a logo on a mug, and it shows the longer way to create a precise reusable template, with guideline drawings and smart objects. And also a quick intro to perspective rules when using warp tool in photoshop

@@pierrienevoldsen is there a way to apply this concept to a sphere? I am trying to create a reusable mockup of a Christmas ornament. I photographed it for this purpose. I can do if ok in ps2019. But I can’t accomplish the same results in ps2020. My way is not as precise as yours, but it’s acceptable. I would of course like to make it better as I learn and improve my skills. The bulge and inflate warp tools have just been too time consuming compared to what I’ve done in the past. I’ve been watching videos on split warping, etc. but I just need to manipulate a simple circle shape. The other mock-ups I create are mainly mugs so I can apply what I’ve learned from this video to those. I hope you understand what I’m trying to explain. I am only an advanced beginner and self taught through KZbin. So I don’t know how to talk in correct photoshop terms.

@@donnababylon I totally understand what you mean, and it's a very good question and a great challenge. It's actually pretty difficult to make it 100 percent perfect, but I guess I have a rather good method to solve your problem. But I think I have to make a video about it -its to complicated to explain with words. It's more like a workaround than an 100 percent perfect method. If it should be perfect, one should decide which projection model one should use ( like when projecting countries on a globe) I'll get back to you, but Maybe first in a little while -Tomorrow my holiday ends, and photo jobs are waiting for me...

I am so lucky and grateful to KZbin for suggesting to watch your Vlog. What a brilliant, technically perfect tutorial! Each and every method was so perfect and sound. I begin with Photoshop-2 and that time guides options was not provided. I used to 'create' guides with the help of Paths! Understanding of perspective rules, knowhow of photography, behavior of texture on placed images or graphics and a great eye for observation is a must for young students.

This method seems to be the only possible in PS, but it’s utter bullshit! It should be very simple to distort an image just from its borders. But no, PS divides the area in small boxes and makes totally pointless distortions you never need. (I have 25 years of experience in PS, this makes me angry every time i need it).

You still have the quick and easy method. The more scientific method is for more accurate use. For instance when you want to know exactly how much space you have for your logo 😃

Very interesting. But .. ok you made some white and red squares in the right perspective on the mug. I fail to see how is that of any help . In the beginning you placed the logo image. Why not do the same with a layer fill with the colour of the mug , warp it around the mug and make it smart object. I dont understand the purpose of it.
@pierrienevoldsen
@pierrienevoldsen Жыл бұрын
You should not make the smart object after you warped, but before. This tutorial helps if you want to place different designs on the same mug 😃 The purpose of the checkered image, is to be sure the perspective is 100 percent correct. It’s very easy to warp to much or to little, or perspectively wrong. With this method it’s easier. But as I said in the beginning, this tutorial is not for you if you just want to place an image quickly 😃

@@pierrienevoldsen Kust the math itself was a bit tricky. I use stock mockups so won’t have the actual ”mugs” available for the new sized layer you created
