This is just perfect... I did a tongue depressor floor... and in the middle of winter it swelled up and some of the boards were overlapping. I cut them so they would lay flat but now in the summer there is gaps. So this technique would be just perfect. I can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing!!

That can absolutely be a problem with real wood. All that work 🫣 youll not have that problem doing it this way for sure! They'll be uniform and perfect forever 😃

This is BRILLIANT! I always make my floors on a template but never thought of using the actual template (greybeard) for the floor!

You have to try it! It's the perfect medium to use. I rarely use wood anymore because it's just so easy and best of all, no mess or tiny offcuts flying around 😄

I just want to share a little tip I learned while installing a hardwood floor in our home. Instead of staggering the boards as shown in this video, at the halfway point in every other row, you can make a more aesthetic look, by staggering the third row at another point as well. So for instance, the first row done exactly as shown, at a 4 inch point, the second row starting exactly as shown, at the two inch point, and then the third row would start at just the one inch point. I hope this helps someone.

You’ve convinced me to finally do this after seeing it done previously. I can do it even quicker with my Cricut Maker 3. I’m glad I saw the comment about using popsicle sticks with the swelling and gaps and glad I dodged that bullet. Thanks for sharing.

THANK U THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS IDEA!! in the dollhouse i was making, printing out so many pages of planks (my dollhouse is for a 12 inch regular barbie ) wouldve been so expensive and i was in a strict budget. this is actually genius!

working on my first roombox and started on a popsicle stick floor before very quickly realizing it was going to take a lifetime with only a saw and mitre box instead of the shears. not to mention all the sanding. i think i will be doing this instead, looks just as good imo with a lot less effort.

I'm doing the popsicle sticks too 😭😭 I already cut 47 with a kitchen knife

@@Mary-Anne0 i admire your dedication haha. my saw was taking sooo many pulls to get thru one but everyone online made it look simple to cut them 😅 i also tried a utility knife but it's too flimsy. scissors caused it to splinter. maybe i'll try your way and use a kitchen knife.

What type of board did you use to lay wood down on?
@craftsbyxander
@craftsbyxander Жыл бұрын
Hi Cara. I used greyboard for this flooring. I think it was 1.5mm thick but you can use any thickness of board material as long as you can score it

This is probably how I'm going to have to do most of my floors. I haven't completely decided because my house is actually a tree, so the inside is also round but not a perfect circle, if that makes sense. It's going to be a bit awkward no matter what I do.

@claytonmedic hi mate. I think you're referring to the mitre shears I'm using in the beginning? They are probably my most used tool. So handy to have. Not sure where abouts your based but here's a link for eBay to the same product www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133536731518?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GbvhSERASdy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=Ne72lS7USGu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

How does this wear overtime? Whats the reason for using greyboard? Not something ive come across before 😊
@craftsbyxander
@craftsbyxander 10 ай бұрын
Hi Katie. It is super sturdy. I think having the walnut varnish on top really toughens it up. The cabinets in the thumbnail have been taken in and out of the room over and over again whilst designing them, decorating them etc. They are floor to ceiling so drag along the floor as I shuffel them in and out and the floor looks perfect still. No specific reason for the grayboard. I used it one day as it was on hand. Anything that can be scored should work though 😊

Wonderful method , but maybe more realistic to have less joins....ie use a longer measurement for some floorboards, although keeping joins in line with your imaginary" support beams."
