Why did they release a full game that completely replaced Overwatch without doing any balancing for one of the two competitive game modes? The game is balanced around 1-2-2, and OW 1 was balanced around 2-2-2. I can’t even say Dunkey is looking at this from a “casual” perspective because nearly everyone who has gone back to OW has actually been enjoying the game. All of my friends, every single one of them, who hated OW 1, have been enjoying the game enough to play it these last 2 weeks. Some are even considering to buy the BP because they’re enjoying it so much. The only reason I touch open queue is because I want to get into a game fast to try a hero out. I do think it need its own separate balance however, its more of a fun gamemode to mess around in And if anything was copied from OW1, then this game wouldn’t have so many dumbass bugs because OW 1 was pretty clean despite the balance. My main problem is why Dunkey thinks this is a true sequel when it’s obviously a glorified update. I understand how thats maybe disappointing. But at this point, who fucking cares? I feel for the cassual player, since you know, most players are not gm and shit, the removal of stuns created minor problems through out the game of how to deal with certain characters. Removing mcree flash is good, but the rest could of been just better balanced. The argument about open que. It should not be ignored if its in the game. As a competitive option at that. I feel like most people do understand the simplicity of, its still fun, and now its free. But it is utterly disappointing how little that matters if you take a look at ow1. I have my problems with ow2 and for the most part agree with dunkey but what was CC really used for. I think it was a really good change to remove a lot of it. Most of it was just used to stop players from escaping or to easily hit shots but thats not really a valid reason to keep it. With the removal of orisia shield and one less tanks it also makes it more reasonable to remove since you dont have stuff like flash shatter since you can just focus one barrier

Open queue (or as some of us remember it, just normal overwatch) solved the problem of games like league where if someone locks a role and plays it poorly the other 5 players on the team can still build a viable comp around that and win. The problem is three-fold: players will optimize the fun out of any game they play long enough, tanks have to do as much damage as DPS heroes or nobody will play them, and blizzard decided the easier path was to compromise the core mechanic of hero switching and lock you out of half of the roster based on your role rather than fix the game. Open queue WAS better, the top ranked players ruined it and then blizzard refused to fix it properly.

25% of open q games had poor team comps because of egos and overlapping roles. OW isn't league, you can't win 5v6 or 4v5. There's no way to fix that without role q. The consistent ranked experience that role q brought was well worth the downsides. If you disagree, you simply did not play a lot of ranked ow before role q like I did.

The problem with role queue is that it divides rank up into threes. If your high elo dps then i'm going to assume if you got put on a tank or a support you'd like still perform really well. The base mechanics of aiming, spacing and zone control apply regardless of rank or role. So when your playing support as a main in ranked you have access to like 8 characters every game. If your a tank main you have access to 10 and if you main dps you have 17. I main support and it gets boring very quickly, not even accounting for the level of flame you receive. Open queue was fun before goats. You had agency to switch role when needed. Now if your a support and your dps and tank is shit then your just kind of fucked. You can't make a 1.5k damage genji perform better and you cant swap to a dps to compensate. So I don't blame dunkey for playing open, it's the origional ranked system that blizzard butchered because it could learn to balance a fucking game correctly.

It’s not elitism, it’s the fact that a person put up a review without understanding the game and all of the complexities it has, he doesn’t like the game because of small problems that plague 1% of the community, seriously he’s the only person bitching about open que as if it was much better. Role lock was one of the best things to happen to comp, it made games more fare and made it so competitive was actually for people that wanted to compete, it organized low ranks and made the team play aspect much easier to deal with.

Role que in turn, made it so if you wanted to play any dps character, you went from a 20 second wait time to a 10 minute one. Anti fun. Sure, it fixed some aspects in competitive play, at the cost of never being able to play the game. You're also missing the point that the review is for the ACTUAL majority of players; casuals. Whether you like it or not, casual players, ranked bronze, silver and gold, make up the majority player base, yet blizzard only caters to the top 1% of competitive play, which almost never translates to those lower levels, making the game often feeling more generic with balances.

GOATS was a problem and yet people seem to forget it was only really a problem from masters and above, low ranked players didn’t have the team play to even pull the comp off. The game wasn’t unfun after role lock, in fact it helped tank players and support players that were over getting 4/5 dps players who wouldn’t swap or work as a team, making them unfun on open que for a good chunk of player’s. Dps isn’t the only role that matters.

If your argument is "just dont play open queue", then youre missing the point - Blizzard put it in as a playable gamemode in ranked. It is NOT a players fault for clicking on one of two cards presented to you on a menu, its the devs fault for putting it on the menu in the first place. Everything that goes into the game should be balanced or at least playable; its not the players' job to identify what things are broken garbage and what things arent. Thats the core issue here - its a problem with the OW design philosophy. Throw something in, hope it sticks, wait for community outrage to determine if it was good or not. Yeah, you end up fixing some things. But Dunkey is 100% right that most of their fixes involve removing interesting or unique abilities. If your game can only be more balanced by pushing every DPS hero further toward being a generic "shoot shoot bang bang" hero, thats really nothing to applaud. And on the other end, some of the "fixes" are just completely misguided from the start and further ruin a broken system. It just feels like there is no real testing going on, or more realistically, there is no consideration for how the game plays at ALL levels of skill.

Honestly my biggest problem with OW2 currently is that Hitscan DPS falloff was nerfed. You can't challenge Ana or Widow as Cassidy at all without a Mercy or Zen discord and even then you're still at a disadvantage from the distance alone, with Soldier a Helix is pretty much required to get a long range pick. I really think that hitscan skill should be rewarded at longer ranges like the Projectile heroes like Torbjorn and Hanzo, not Widow range of course but still a considerable distance. It's funny I remember playing Eichenwalde on the bridge with the enemy on the other side, and I thought "I'm too far away, what am I gonna do? Shoot them?" As Cass even hitting 5 headshots from 40 meters can't kill a 200 hp hero. So why bother?

wow its almost like that would make the projectile characters completely obsolete (im not a sympathizer btw i fucking hate projectile heroes). And it's almost like this is an intentional design decision so that you have to choose divers/flankers to counter long range hitscans (widow) and some projectiles. Within most reasonable ranges I have no issue 3 shotting pharah as Cree (maybe im just smoking some shit idk) or bullying her as soldier, but maybe there's a point to be made about damage fall off specifically for the case of dealing with pharah. Against every other hero though I think it makes a lot of sense and is very intentional. In short, being a hitscan hero is a very strong advantage on it's own over being a projectile hero. An aim based playstyle is much more consistent than a prediction/percentage based one especially as player skill increases, imo this downside is very necessary.

Count how many headshots it takes. Then count how many bodyshots it takes. If you think a Support hero was intentionally left to be a better hitscan than the DPS hitscans I'm willing to bet you're mistaken. If it was, there are bigger problems ahead in terms of balance.

Cree's dps is much higher is the reason so how does it make any sense whatsoever for him to have a very high dps, with infinite range, headshottable, that is also pinpoint accurate, in what world does this sound fun to you? Just playing against fucking sniper Cree spamming 70 dmg shots (headshottable) completely accurate dps at you on Ilios Well from Nepal Village. The entire point is that you aren't supposed to play sniper Cree, like I said before why would anyone ever play a projectile character when they can just use accurate spam instead. Like could they change the fall off numbers a hair? Maybe but in the end Cree is meant very purposefully to be a mid-close range fighter. There's a reason why he has fan, why his nade doesn't travel far, and why his roll works the way it does they're all clearly meant to emphasize and help Cree succeed in the mid-close range playstyle.

I would say an extra 5 - 8 meters at least, but even then it would still take more than one cylinder from a good distance. I say just a little extra because his falloff is close enough to where if you’re just outside of it and get a headshot and body shot theres just a sliver of health left on a 200 hp hero. To me thats really annoying especially against soldiers and baps who can heal themselves. I never said Cass and Soldier should have sniper falloff. Just enough to where a widow or ana if she isn’t careful can get picked at at a longer range than the current falloff is at. Even if not, just 5 or so meters is enough to satisfy me so I can feel like my shots to atleast a little more to poke at someone farther away.

I can see the POV of those who disagrees with dunkey on this video, but I too believe that: 1) changing the design philosophy from a moba-esque shooter to more of a traditional fps was a mistake. Yes, we might get more solo carry potential but so much of the hero identity and variety will be lost due to every existing and future heroes being balanced around aim. 2) feels like Blizzard only cares about role queue with OP tanks running rampant in other modes, why even add other modes in the first place if RQ is all they care about?

Seeing Overwatch 1 finally getting updates again and revitalized with new and returning players warms my heart. They should remove open Q from competitive. It's as if they made Total Mayhem a competitive mode; the game just isn't intended to be played like that. Alternatively they could make open q role locked, so you can choose anyone up to 1T-2D-2S. So if you convinced someone to change to your role, you could change to theirs mid match. Also no one is locked into a preset role in the beginning- only after everyone chooses their heros.

It’s extremely difficult do criticize any of Dunkey’s videos. The only thing that I’d consider a mistake or oversight in these type of videos is the fact that he makes a lot of personal points with very little information backing them up, which makes sense since all his reviews are 3-8 mins long, making it hard to explain all his ideas and points into a single video. I’d really wish that he elaborated on the “core issues” part of the video though, since he clearly has a very different outlook of the problems of the game compared to most of the ow community
