A city like that with a thriving downtown and historic district usually has an industrial district somewhat further away that provides the main income of the town. The sawmill is a start, but maybe some other industries would work as well in that area

Maybe something like advanced industries like a car factory. Though that might require too much space, but it's more like an example of a type of industry.

An industrial district building on the style of the sawmill could fit well in the free space. Industrial estates tend to be close to logistics hubs like airports and it’s common for them to have dedicated railway sidings for loading goods. It could be a nice way to resolve the transition between the aesthetic of the village and the airport and it’d be a chance to put in a goods freight station rather than a regular train station.
@danielfindley6931

It would also open up the possibility to having a freight part of the airport, including a transfer station from the trains to the airport.

A truck driving through town with the finished wood would be a nice story telling element. 3. In the new area, a lake with a nice hotel or resort would be nice. Here are some ideas for the empty space: 1. you shoud build there a big lake and have there a small B&B as well as a train station. In the lake it self you can build some fishing boats or even The Loch Ness Monster! 2. It will be very cool if you built a rocket launch pad in your Lego city in the empty space next to the airport, it will be very cool to see two major peojects connecting together! And by the way I think you should put a train station right next to the terminal like there are in many airports around the world to make it more convenient for tourists and residents to move around the city.

An important part for any log storage is sprinkler systems. It keeps the logs damp and protects and prepares them for cutting. And an inspector. Often mills are independent from the logging crews. So there is an independent third party that inspects the wood and says it worth. So it’s not bias to the mill or the logging company. I live in the US pacific NW. A lot of logging over here. So just some ideas for a bit of realism

you should definitely / maybe add a airport tram express like Edinburgh in Scotland or add a train station for the airport as a connection to the main city, I love this Lego city, keep up the work, I can't wait to see the end

the sawmill looks amazing!! in the spirit of having connected stories, as suggested by other commenters, a delivery truck for the milled planks would be cool; additionally i think an under construction house (bare timber frame) would be a interesting and challenging build, as well as provide another connection to the stories that carry across the entire city!

You should make a lake in that open area! So many opportunities for scene building: campsites, boating/fishing, the mob burying a body, off-roading... So many ideas!

The night light effect is wonderful, truly atmospheric and captured beautifully. A Lego Work of Art. It must be the best Lego city in the world.

I really love it! Can't wait to see how you continue. One thing I would say is add a lot more sawdust color around the sawmill, otherwise it looks too clean. That stuff gets everywhere! Perhaps some warehouses or other industrial buildings would work well in that area. Interesting to see how you will connect the airport- perhaps an underground car park is what's needed.

Incredible work! Amazing to see it grow and come to life with lighting! I could see maybe a car gas/petrol station missing? A museum? A large monument?

You should totally make a quarry in that corner! It seems like a perfect place for another mountain and digging out a quarry in that mountain would look really amazing with Lego! And of course this needs something SUPER AMAZING to entertain your guests so what if you had a section of the mountain that lowers down into the table to show a cut out of the underground mine? It would be difficult to work out but I think it would be AWESOME!!

Some factories would go well in that area as the saw mill is already constructed or u could make a building which is in construction like piles of dirt, gravel, bricks, cranes and different type of machines

crazy good job. the details like the bell and the sawdust pile are so awesome. I absolutely love your style. It reads so well and so much effort goes in to each element. dont pay too much attention to the nitpicks, no one is doing it like you (as far as ive seen). I look forward to every video!! keep it up!
