I didn't have a gym or set of bars laying around near by or the money to afford a gym membership. And as far as age goes it's not only a number but an excuse. 50 is by no means old. I knew a man doing this kind of stuff at almost 70. Stay in shape and you slow down ageing, simple as that.

@djrogerrubeo6 жыл бұрын
Much respect Darius, I am also 53 and followed pretty much the same as you. Started with weights back in the day then made the progression to body weight workouts and calisthenics. Funny how many of my friends my age and mostly the younger guys, lol who never steered away from banging weights their whole lives always complain about the same thing, shoulder, back and knee pain. I always find myself telling them all the same thing, how about giving the weights a rest and try some pushups, pull ups, dips and jumping rope. Of course anyone can get hurt at any given moment doing anything but I find it highly unlikely you will grow older with less pain and ailments doing basic body weight workouts. Ever notice the people that do the most basic workouts such as pushups, pull ups, dips, swimming and all of those basic school yard workouts, let's throw in some handball for all my fellow Brooklyn peeps, are in the best shape physically and have the cardio and endurance to go with it. Keep it up Darius you're a good inspiration. Age is just a number I'm teaching kickboxing at 53 and proud of it. Keep doing what you're doing. Eat clean, stay focused and God Bless you all.

In NYC those are the sections of the park designed for and dedicated to fitness. As you can see in the video the 'payground' is another section segregated to itself by a gate to keep the kids from wandering out. No adult could do this particular work out In those playgrounds because their equipment is child sized, also there are fines for that. Any public park in NYC that has a fitness area is designed basically seperate.

It is quite interesting how people who do calisthenics and eat a sensible diet instead of lifting heavy weights and trying to "bulk" always look better.
@Section8dc7 жыл бұрын
Kai Shinjuku I do both and definitely disagree, I'll take Frank Zane over this guy any day of the week lol, but they didn't "bulk", back in his day, and no one sensible who isn't powerlifting should be eating more than 200 to 300 calories over maintenance, you can't force feed muscle, unless your on steroids of course, and only beginners think you can and they go up to high body fat percentages thinking they will build more muscle which is asinine.
@transrightspanda6 жыл бұрын
it's because calisthenics is the way we evolved. We (including our hominid ancestors) have always done calisthenics, everything is simulating real life movements. We evolved climbing, lifting ourselves up, pushing ourselves down, twisting, turning, hanging. These are all natural movements which is why I prefer Calisthenics over weightlifting. It's more natural and our bodies are more adapted to it. That's why they generally look healthier and more aesthetic. We didn't evolve standing still lifting a couple of rocks tied to a stick up and down above our heads. It's not natural. It's why weightlifters in general can't fight and aren't very athletic and they surprisingly get out of breath really easy. Next time you see someone who only weight lifts ask him to do a handstand or a muscle up to see what I mean.

Good for you. You look great with your shirt off out in public. This will get many people to the gym saying I want to be like him. They say that man doesn't look a day over 30. The may stop you and ask how do you do it? You mentioned that you did some jail time but you rebound your self and became a great fitness model.whitch goes to show many people made a few mistakes but they can and turn them selves around being great citizens. Once again you look great out in public with your shirt off. Very proud of you so please keep maintaining your health and influencing others to do the right thing. Respectively.

all it is, is resistance... doesn't matter if it's your own weight or free weights. The basics of muscle gains is the same no matter how you do it. You break down muscle fibres which your body repairs and reinforces.

You will need extra weights to get bigger mussels. Look at his physique. He is ripped but not very big.

you don't need extra weight. You need extra resistance. Your body can't tell the difference

I have complete and utter respect for this man . I have some injuries to my back , so have had to step back from training . So swim 5-7 times a week . At 51 im feeling damn good , but have a long way to go to get where im happy . Will be trying to ease into a more muscle based routine as soon as i can . I laugh at the gym bunnies who strut around , going " look at my high arms and chest , because as soon as you suggest swimming , they suddenly become shy . If they do venture into the pool , they barely manage a length . Being fit is all about balance of strength ,stamina and flexibility .No point having huge arms if your lungs are shrivelled up and you have chicken legs . Their only good for KFC . Keep going , your looking good my friend . I take from you , inspiration to improve and master my own goals.

That is exactly the kind of shape you want to aspire to going into old age. Keeping a low weight but strong frame will make everything you do feel so much better.

Would be interesting to hear him talk about his dietary habits. He's the exception and not the rule, so he's doing something right. Most people his age are too inflammed to even try anything like this, so his lifestyle habits are allowing this coupled with his determination and consistency. He is to be commended. Bravo brother. ♥

I took 2 years off from weightlifting. During that time I did calesthenics only. After those 2 years, I bought a one day pass to the gym just to see how much weaker id be with the weights. It wasn’t the case at all. I was actually stronger than I was before. I don’t know how that’s possible, but all I do now is calesthenics only. Love it.

{ Ace-Kid97 } you don't need a vegan diet just eat right and make sure you balance your food.

I knew it. Before he even said it I knew what his diet was just by looking at him. I had a real setback with injury, but I'm doing it too once I've finished rehab. 8 years, and I'm close to well again. I sure got a good feeling from him. He's fresh.

Master DM. Can u give more commentary during training as this is day one for me. I'm 55 years young born 1965.living in UK. I have been training in boxing to stay fit for 30 years and feel ready to try something extra to add to what I have. Massive respect.

I'm about his age and what surprises me is that society has set such a low expectation on physiques. What 50 + people have to be obese, taking high blood pressure meds, and waiting for their "golden years"? Yeah I don't think so.
