Super Salto - Glider Aerobatic Display

Christian treats us to an aerobatic display which captures the beauty and grace of flying. His performance was choreographed to the music which we played on my car stereo so we could all hear it and relayed to him via a small walkie talkie which you can see him holding up to his ear. Awesome!

Clearly a master at work. Of course, in a car he'd have been prosecuted for using a mobile phone while driving. Hard to believe that level of skill; "I'll just casually hold something in one hand while doing a complicated aerobatic routine with the other".

What is the chute about? I've never seen a deployment of similar device in flight.

Balleka and you don't retract, so do you cut it loose

A wing without airbrakes is more efficient.... no little ridges to spoil the flow! Trouble is, you need a steep approach for field landings, so the chute is installed in a 'shoe' under the rudder. Good exercise walking back to collect it after the jettison! The 19 metre Kestrel was a good example.

Usually, it is about 800 metres behind the glider, and sometimes blown into the downwind hedge !!

Maybe someone can modify these files for other devices, unfortunately Matt Wright aka Balleka is no longer with us, he died at Brentor in 2016. A tragic gliding accident, doing what he loved best... Rest in Peace
